Title: Dollywood campgrounds
Post by: Preacher on Sep 28, 2003, 07:05 PM
My wife and I are looking at going to Dollywood the last week of April/first week of May.  What campground would you recommend?  I would prefer one with full hookups.  Also other places in the area to visit would be welcome.

PreacherThe 2002 East Coast Pop Up Rally was in this area.  We (63 families) stayed at [link=http://www.littlerivervillage.com/]Little River Village Campground[/link] and had a great time.

While it is not next door to Dollywood it is within reasonable driving distance.  The campground is beautiful and right next door to the national Park.

Asking for recomendations is a good idea as I drove past/through several campgrounds that I would not have been happy in.

Have fun, this is a great camping area.

PreacherDepending on what you are looking for:

KOA - Pigeon Forge   Very convenient to Dollywood.  It s been quite a few years since I camped there, but it was clean and typical of a KOA.  A bit too close to all the traffic of Pigeon Forge to really suit me, but I d rather be in the woods.

As Tim said, Little River is located near Townsend.  Much quieter over there, and except for a very small site, we enjoyed our stay there very much.  Extremely well-maintained, etc.

Crazy Horse, east of Gatlinburg is another nice cg in the area.  Have camped there several times.  Sites are decent sized, especially those closer to the creek.

Except for the close proximity to Dollywood that you would have with KOA, I would recommend staying a little farther out and getting away from the chaos of PF or Gatlinburg.

A must see is Cades Cove; a must eat is Apple Barn at the north end of Pigeon Forge!  Also, both Camp Coleman and a Lodge outlet if you need new gadgets.  And, check out the Dixie Stampede, too.  Lots of fun for an evening.
