Title: Breakfast
Post by: GaryWT on Sep 28, 2003, 07:05 PM
This is not a recipe but it deals with food.  How many of you put on big breakfasts when camping, what do you have and what is the biggest crowd that you have served.

Last year we put on a few.  We cooked a lot and some people brought food with them.  The biggest we had inclused about 56 people and we had bacon, scrambled eggs, pancakes, bagels, english muffins, hash, homefries, friut salad, coffee cake, OJ, coffee and sausage.  I think that was it.  It is a great way to spend a Sunday morning.  With all thoses mouths fed, there are plenty of hands for cleanup.

GaryWTOnce a year we have a 10-day stay up in the Sierras where many branches of the family tree meet. Each branch takes one day for food prep. It seems to make it easier to plan what to bring and who s in charge of what. Our breakfast for 26 people was home fries, sausage, bacon, biscuts, country gravy, and eggs scrambled or fried to order, with milk, juice, and coffee.

Yep, organized chaos for one morning, then kick back and relax the rest of the trip.

 GaryWTDave, sounds good

With 2 coleman stoves and a griddle on the grill it goes off with a little help.  People will bring stuff to help out and it is a lot of fun.  We only had the 56 one.  The other time or two that we did it we had 24 or so come to breakfast.

GaryWTWe have a five family camp out every Labor Day (about 22).  One year we did knock offs of egg Mc Muffins (a pineapple can with the ends cut out makes a good scrambled or fried egg mold).  Two years ago my brother in law did the ultimate... eggs benidect for the cowd.

GaryWTI have done breaky for 12 thats enough for me. I did some precooking at home though before I even left. Fresh fruit salad, bacon, sausages, pancakes, bagels or toast and eggs. Everyone had something they liked. The dieters and the big eaters were happy.

GaryWTOn our big Labor Day campout, we do a big brunch-type deal. Everyone brings a dish to pass, and we deep fry a couple of turkeys.
Then the next morning, two of the regular campers that work at MickeyD s will cook up sausage patties and fixins for Egg Mcmuffins.[8D]
