I m not just asking about mosquitoes, but they can be among the worst...except for black flies.
AustinBostonWe keep 21" fans running all the time during bug season. We have 2 of them and run them over and around the picnic table and one under the awning. Keeps the air moving quickly and it helps alot. Plus the dog enjoys the breeze as well.
AustinBostonHi being from the bug kingdom of the world we ve tried just about everything and I have to agree with byrdr running fans outside around the camp seems to do the trick. I also believe taking vitamin b keeps skeeters form biting but watch out for those noseeums.

I ve always been able to get them at Wal-Mart and find they work very well as long as the wind isn t higher then a light breeze.

Off mosquito coils. I remember my dad using them when I was a kid.
AustinBostonI m an avid organic gardener. Therefore, I look for organic methods for pest control. Did you know that mosquitoes are repelled by " mint" ? Or, that catnip is more effective than DEET with none of the side-effects of DEET? http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2001/08/010828075659.htm Or, that mosquitoes aren t strong enough to fly when there is a breeze?
Hence, you can make your own repellent with peppermint oil & water in a spray bottle. Or, follow the recipe on the above link to make a spray out of a catnip mixture. At home we use a commercial organic spray --sorry, don t have the name at the moment. And, we make sure there is a breeze, either with our without a fan blowing on us so the mosquitoes can t land.
For camping, I take the commericial organic spray & Eucalyptamint. This Eucalyptamint is so versatile as topical analgesic with other uses, that I keep a tube of it in my 1st aide kit.
I was going to make some of the catnip repellent using the catnip grown in my garden & sell it as a fund-raiser for our community garden. However, too many factors played a role in that plan falling through. I need to make a few changes & then maybe sell it through a friend s (who is also a neighbor) healthfood store for profit.
Anyway, that is my .02 cents.

AustinBoston" Better living through chemistry I say" . We always used to hose down the tent with a Raid fogger and that worked great, now that we ve graduated to a PU, I purchased one of those big LP powered foggers. Can t wait to get out there and hose some bugs this summer!
The kids go nuts if there are bugs around so we do whatever is necessary to keep them away.

Just a fact of nature I ve learned to deal with. If I didn t know the problem at hand & how to basically deal with it, I would not be camping to begin with......[:(][:D][;)]

We use the mosquito coils. One at each end of the awning seems to work okay.
AustinBostonat night, they aren t as attracted to colored lights as much as white and yellow, so we use c-7 christmas lights in bug season, or covered tacky lights with colored bulbs. lemon grass oil also helps on the skin. fans are the best! and coolest

AustinBostonWe have been lucky so far and have not had a lot of problems with bugs where we are hosts. We had a few weeks with gnats last year. But we are usually working when we are outside, we always eat inside anyway and while I am cooking they did not bother me that much.
