Title: Outside grill extension question
Post by: wynot on Sep 28, 2003, 07:05 PM
Looking at making a larger surface for my outside coleman grill that hangs on the side of the camper.

Got the hook set this past weekend, for adding to the camper and the matching part for the board.  Now.  How many inches past this can I go on a Coleman Utah before the back support disappears?  Is there a way to check it before drilling.  It feels like it extends to the left about 6 inches.

 Help?

wynotWill a studfinder do the trick? I would imagine it should. If memory serves, I thought the strip was Pop-riveted in place. Are you planning on using screws or rivets?
Sorry I m not much help on this one.

wynotI never know if I m talking to Bob or Cheryl...though it says Bob...

Never thought about using my electronic studfinder (which always seems pretty worthless in framing carpentry).  Wonder how it would work with the aluminum skin...I ll have to try that out.

Guess you know it s snowing AGAIN.

 wynotwynot,

I would be very cautious drilling into the side of the trailer. It s actually thin aluminum with nothing behind it. Coleman runs wires through the sides and unless you know exactly where they are you could drill a hole and cause yourself a big problem! Coleman will supply you with a wiring diagram and wire layout if you request one.

Can t you use the original backplate for securing it to the trailer and add a telescoping leg or two to the front and side of the new countertop? Might be the safer thing to do.

wynotTim5055 increased the size of his outside stove counter.  Here are the pictures and how-to from his website: http://www.title-3.com/HPStove.htm  He wsas inspired by Firefyter-emt, and I m still trying to find that old thread.

Also, here s a link from the old forum where some members were talking about repacing the outside stove shelf.   If I find anything else, I ll be sure to post a follow-up.

 HTH![:D]

Yeah, the problem we have is one signon, two people.  And 99.8% of the time, it s Kershner (me).  I m the opinionated one.  Paula rarely writes more than 2 lines when she posts.  She s the nice one...
