Post by: campertime on Sep 28, 2003, 07:05 PM
Has anybody added shelving to thier wardrobe? I am looking for the best solution for more organization in the wardrobe. We have two of them and plan to use one for clothes and one for storage so let s hear what you have done.

Pictures would be great too [:)]

campertimeI haven t added permanant shelving (yet) since I wanted to make sure I liked using the space that way.  I bought a hanging sweater rack from one of the linen stores ( http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?order_num=-1&SKU=10589622&RN=303&KSKU=100709 ) and a simple 3 drawer plastic bin ( http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?order_num=-1&SKU=103102&RN=51 ) for the small things.  So far, this has worked well, so it might be time to upgrade to something more substantial.

campertimeThought about it too, but so far I ve not added anything.  we did use some of the under bed type plastic boxes for the wardrobe shelves, sure does make getting to things at the back easier.  I have added a couple shelves for our pantry, only thing I want to find are the plastic fronts they used, other than that the install was pretty easy.  Few screws, wood glue and your set.

campertimewe added the wire space maker shelves to ours, works great, and under the bathroom sink is our next job, the wire shelves are easier to install, custom fit, with a bend here and bend there, clip here and snip there. (wire cutters) easier getting around the pipes![;)]

campertimeGood idea with the wire shelves, have you been able to get the screws into somehing solid though?  I ve used several screws along the wall along with glue to keep them in place.

campertimeyes we found a " stud"  strip along the corners plus you need a stud line you can glue a strip into the corners and then screw into it.

campertimewe did,  in our kiwi we have a triple doors, inside was a hanging bar, but we never take " good"  clothes, so we decided to add shelves. Not exactly sure what they are called but I wanted something sturdy, you mount a metal type long strip with holes for various sizes on the back wall, you then  have metal plates? w/ prongs where you insert these in the long strip thing, they are like L shaped, then you buy the wood shelves, I like the system cuz it s sturdy and adjustable, you can have any many shelves as you want according to what size. If you want pics, email me directly at AandLPeterson@aol.com  as I don t get here much anymore, I have a laptop and internet while camping ( we re seasonal s) I usually take my digital camera so I can snap some pics this wkend while I" m there. We  stuff the shelves full with clothes as I pretty much live at the campground all summer and haven t had any problems in over a yr using them

campertimeI haven t even got my Hybrid yet, but have been planning something like this since I first looked at it and decided to buy it. I m leaning toward the idea of some stackable wire racks, that can be anchored to one corner, or some nice wooden ones to match the units decor. I ll have to get the trailer first and get some measurements and check around to see what kind of mounting I can do.

I too don t generally take " Nice"  clothing along, though I had to take the PU up to Mass for funerals twice last year, so I ll leave some space for hanging nice clothing and maybe fall/winter coats type of thing.

campertimeSince I am the one who has to " build"  anything in the camper, I decided on the Sterlite large drawers. My wardrobe holds 4 nicely, giving each of us a drawer and an extra one for " stuff" , then a little stacking drawer sits on top and jams in nicely under the clothing ar.

Cliff: You may want to be careful about putting anything pemanent in there, at least low. On my Bantam, the floor of the closet is raised and that was where Trail-lite put the water pump. When winterizing, you may need to get to the pump, as my watertank empty thingee is about a gallon fluid high, making it hard to get the antifreeze into the lines. I am going to get a Tim5055 pump for the antifreeze bottle, so I will need access, I think...
