Inks Lake SP is a plethera of rocks, valleys, and cacti. Located towards the south central part of Texas, this gorgeous park hosts thousands of visitors each summer.
Activities and amnenities include:
1. Hiking
2. Swimming
3. Fishing
4. Canoeing ($30.00 all day or $15 for half days)
5. Paddleboating (same price)
6. A park store
7. Playgrounds
8. A Golf Course (right outside the edge of the park)
9. And ofcourse, great camping.
Sites were a little close together for my tastes, but this would probably be ideal for those families for children as EVERYONE there seemed to have kids and they would travel from site to site playing all day long. An EXCELLENT park, in my opnion, if you have children!
A word of caution....make reservations WELL in advance, as they were turning people away to go back home while we were checking in. I sure would ve hated to drive all that way, just to be turned back.
On a scale of 1-100, this SP ranks a 85 with me. The only reason I don t rate it higher is due to the " open" sites which, in my opinion, could be a little more private. Still, an overall GREAT park.

PS...there are pics on my website.
JemJen24We are going to be at Inks over the Memorial Day weekend, arriving on Thursday. I would like to get peoples opinion on the best sites. We don t care about proximity to playgrounds. Access to bathrooms would be good. We would like a large, private site with shade. Those are the two main criteria.
Anyone?
JemJen24Large...sure..private and shade...hmmmm..that may be problem. As far as I can remember I didn t see ANY " shady or private" spots. They were all open iwth just a few trees. Our neighbors were so close to us, their Schnauzer stayed at our campsite half the time. LOL
There s a few pics on my website. We had a good site but I don t remember which # it was. I m thinking it was 52 but I m not sure. It was right on the water, but forget the shade and the privacy.
For shade and privacy, I d pick another SP.
JemJen24Doesn t look exactly " private" , does it....

JemJen24OK, so much more shade and privacy. We are going to take advantage of the beauty of the hill country and Devil s Hole with a canoe.
Here s another ? Would you go back?
JemJen24Bill,
We were there for 8 days a couple of years ago. I d rate the park about the same way Jennifer did. The only real change we will make on our next trip there is to arrive mid-afternoon on Sunday and leave again mid-morning the following Friday, at the latest. This is due to fact that this park gets wild during the weekend. I m not saying it s bad, just way too busy for us. If you don t minded masses of people and kiddos around, this should be no problem.
The last time we were there, we had site #225. This site put us away from at least a little of the weekend " fun & games" and there is a tree behind the site to give at least some shade. Sites #288 & 289 give good shade and put you near the water. The farthest loop east gives some pretty good shade but the sites are closer together then we like.
All in all, Inks is a pretty nice park. It does get very busy on the weekends, but if that doesn t bother you or you can avoid those days, your looking at a 1st. rate trip. By all means, don t miss the Devil s Hole canoe trip and Lone Star Cavern. Both are " must do s" . Good luck and let me know what you think when you get back.
