Title: Goosepond Colony CG - Scottsboro, AL
Post by: stricsm on Sep 28, 2003, 07:05 PM
I have camped at Goosepond many times as I was raised in the area.  Goosepond is located on the Tennessee River (Lake Gunterville).  The CG is nice and is being updated.  Some picnic table are still in need of repair.  There are many sites on the water.  The CG has two bath houses in fair condition, a playground, numerous piers, and a boat launch.  Each campsite has electrical, water, cable and some have sewer.  There is a dumping station near the entrance.  We like the CG because it is an hour away for us and we can usually get a water site on weekends even during the summer (excluding holidays or fishing tournaments).  The folks that manage the CG are very friendly and helpful.  I believe the Colony is now owned by the city.  If my memory serves me correctly, I believe Bart Starr helped to start Goosepond.  This area is best known for its large mouth bass fishing.  Small mouth are also prevalent.

Inside the Colony, their is a golf course, a restaurant, hiking/biking trails, a marina, and a bait store.  Lakefront cabins are also available.

More info on Goosepond can be found at: http://www.goosepond.org/ , or you can contact me by email and I ll be happy to provide more information about the CG or the area.  Enjoy but please don t get my site.

stricsmThanks for the info on Goosepond; we drove through several years ago looking at the campgrounds.  Good to know they are trying to improve it.  We usually stay at Lake Guntersville State Park.  They are both about an hour drive from Huntsville.
