Title: Fresh Water Hose Length?
Post by: van castle on Sep 28, 2003, 07:05 PM
We carry a 20ft freshwater hose in our camper. In the past 18 months we have set up in about 35 different camp sites and I don t recall hooking up 20ft from a freshwater source. What length hose do you prefer?

van castleWe originally carried one 25 foot hose.  Last year we had one site that needed a longer hose, so off to Wal Mart.

For locations I am familiar with I only carry one, if I don t know I carry both now.

van castleWe have been to one campground where we needed both our 25 foot and our 50 foot hose.  We thought we were missing our service post until one of the kids pointed out that it had the site number on it.  All the rest of the 50+ campgrounds we have popped up in have only needed the 50 footer or less.  Most (85-90%) only need the 25 footer.

van castle0 , nada, don t carry one as we usually dry camp and the one or two times a year where we do have water, we just run to the spigot for water, or more often than not, bring our own bottled water.

van castleWe have a 25  one, but I m looking into getting a 50  also. There are two campsites we love that are 50+ feet from a spigot, so we ll take the 50  one to those. Most of the time the 25  one does the job.

van castleWe have 2 25  hoses. I m thinking of cutting 1 of them in half. Seems that lots of the places we go have the post right by the trailer.  Just hate having 25  of hose to wipe off and put away when 5  would have done the job.

van castleMust be nice to always be near the water sources! lol

We have 2-25  and 2-50  water hoses. Occasionally, we could have used an extra 50 footer.

For electric, the trailer has a 25  cord and we have 2 additional 30-amp 25  cords. A couple of 12  cords, capable of handling 15 amps each, are used on most trips (electric water heater & electric heater).

Have used them all a few times.

van castleWe carry a 50  with us.Would rather be safe and have the extra length with us.That way we can setup in the site as we want.[:)]We also carry an extra 25  30 amp service extension cord.

van castleOurs is 25  and it s always been plenty.  The only time I ever saw it an issue was last fall when we were at Petit Jean SP, Arkansas.  Seems that in Arkansas SP s, water hook-up is not alway on the left side of the camper after you back in.  At some sites, it s on the right side.  Not a big deal if your ready for it but you can find yourself without enough hose.

van castleWe have a 50 foot and it has been fine at all places to the best of my memory.  Sometimes we had to take the direct route but we made it work.  When ever possible we do not like to back staight in but we try to put it across the back, this usually puts us away from the hookups.  Of course at Sp s around here the hose is not needed as there are no hookups.

van castleI have 2 hoses.  A 10 foot one that I use when filling our water tank and at the two campgrounds we were at the had water hookups.  I also have another hose, that I think is 25 feet.  I have not used it in so long I don t remember how long it is.

van castle2 25  hoses, have been places where I needed the second one.
I have a $1.00 thingee that sorta holds the hose. At the very least my hose is not going everywhere.
Wynot has a wonderful round thing I would like to have one or 2 of for my hoses and big electric extention.

van castleWe also carry a 10 and a 25, and have needed both. In fact, at one cg, the hose was barely touching the ground. I was afraid it would rip the connection out of my camper!

van castleI carry a 10  hose that we use 80% of the time and a 50  hose for those campgrounds that catch me flat footed.[:@]  Only once though.[;)]  I do carry two extension cords for the electric, but I have yet to use them both.

QuoteWynot has a wonderful round thing I would like to have one or 2 of for my hoses and big electric extention.

The round thing that Paula is referring to is a CordPro.  It s yellow, looks like a big donut, made of pretty indestructable plastic.

 http://www.cordpro.com/

Anyhow, we use it for all of our extension cords, water hoses, etc.  It keeps them clean, tangle free, and works well enough - nothing works as well as the exhibitor demos them, but still it is pretty easy and neat.

I see they show a list of places they re going to be at, we first ran into them at the Woodworking show at the Maryland State Fairgrounds.  Prices are better at the shows than online...

I will warn anyone who gets these, you ll NEED more than one - you ll need it for your extension cords, your freshwater hose, your greywater hose, rope, whatever.

van castleI have a 25 foot fresh water hose and it has always been more than long enough, probably because it has never been out of the storage box in the camper since I put it in there. We camp at State and County parks all the time and haven t had a site with a water hookup yet. The hose may get used this year though because we have our family reunion/campout at a private campground this time and they have water and electric hookups on each site. I also have a 25 foot 30 amp extension cord that I have never had out of the camper because I have always had plenty of cord with the one on the camper already. (We have had electric hookups at most campgrounds we go to)

van castleDepends on where we are going to camp. Some places we ve been to before, and know that we can move the camper away from it s " intended"  spot to give us a better view or more privacy. Other times the sites don t have water hookups, but a spring-fed faucet is just a couple hose lengths away. So we carry two 20  hoses and a 10  hose. They don t take up much space in the back of the truck, and weigh next to nothing. I also use the same hoses to flush and fill the pop-up s water tank and HWH at home, so it s just part of the routine.
