Where we are from, we camp mainly in Provincial parks which have a trailer filling/dumping station but no water hook ups. The bunkhouse has a 30 gal tank. This past weekend we had to top off the tank three times using a 5 galon jug.
How much water do others go through? How often do you add/remove water before you pull out?
fivegonefishingI haven t got mine yet, but I don t see myself using that much water without a hook-up! I can dry camp along with the best of them, and can do it with very little water. The Hybrid I m getting also has a 30 gal fresh tank, and that should do me just fine for several days (I hope)...
Gone-CampingHey Cliff, I didn t aniticipate using so much water either. The weekend in question, it was my family of 5 plus my mother. Because we now have hot water, the kids had a quick bath Saturday night and all three adults had a shower. We now use the sink inside for dishes because it is so easy; I love the hot water!

Not sure if you re lifting the 5-gallon jug and pouring it in, but if you are, you may want to consider getting a hand-operated bilge pump with some clear tubing. Just st the water jug on the ground, stick the bilge pump into it, attach the tubing to the pump and place the other end in the tank hole and start pumping away. In about 30 seconds I can effortlessly empty a complete 7-gallon aquatainer; faster than I could hold it there and pour it. It s very effective, cheap, small, and light.

Guess I better keep that bilge pump item tucked away in the back of my mind too! Trouble is, if I use 30 gals of fresh water, that should essentially fill my 30 gal gray water tank, less what ever makes it to the black tank?!?!

Gone-CampingInteresting mod in this months TrailerLife was a drain back to the fresh water for the " cold" shower water that is usually wasted when you are waiting for the hot/warm water. Just one more way of saving water when dry camping!

Sorry about the late reply. I didn t notice it until now.
I got my bilge pump at REI, but it won t fit inside a collapsible 5-gallon jug due to the floating collar. I imagine Wally World or an outdoor recreation store (i.e. boats) would have one. Just make sure to bring along your collapsible jug to make sure whatever bilge pump you buy will fit. Then bring the bilge pump to the hardware store and find the right size and length plastic tubing.

We do something simular, using a Kerosene Syphon Pump that operates on 2 D cell batteries. Sure makes refilling the water much easier.
fivegonefishingwhen dry camping, paper plates no washing, one pot meals less washing, canned sodas, juices or bottle water. no cups to wash.We carry a five gallon bottle of water and have a battery pump that fits the water bottle to make easier to fill cups etc. (bottled water you use on the water coolers at the office Deer park etc. for drinking water, cooking) take GI showers, wet shut off water, soap, rinse. toliet flushing can be kept at a minuim if you aim right! and if you place some toliet paper in the toliet first before you do your business when u flush it goes down leaving no marks behind to rinse!
