We re at it again!
Not a week after the VLR May rally, and we ve got ourselves a mini rally!
What: A mini rally!
Where: Vail Lakes Resort, Temecula, California (877) 999-VAIL
When: June 6-8, 2003 (other nights optional)
Who: So far, OC Camper, gsm x2 and G-Whiz, MrFlinders, and Griffsmom. If your name isn t on the list, why don t cha come on down?
Why: Because we can!
gsm has already set up a mini-rally Web site at http://www.sccampers.org/temeculamini/
VLR s Web site can be accessed at http://www.vaillakeresort.com/villagemap.html
You can also read informationa bout this mini-rally on the SCCampers Web site at http://www.sccampers.org/
Here are the posts from the former mini-rally thread:
QuoteORIGINAL: (PaulL) Paul L here. Would love to attend but unfortunately have prior commitments that weekend. Have fun!
QuoteORIGINAL: OC Campers
Lori, thanks for opening the thread on Vail Lake. I have been trying for 2 days now but my computer, AOL and PUT have not been compatible. Everytime I try to post, I get an error message. :::sigh::::
I was wondering if we should start a post on the Halloween campout in October and decide which weekend to try for. My suggestion is one of the first 2 weekends . I told Randy I would try to wagonmaster the rally but I would only handle the reservatons. I was hoping someone else would handle the rest of the goodies like the potluck and side things.
QuoteORIGINAL: gsm x2
QuoteI ll be happy to handle the WebSite---soon to be off the home.earthlink.net/~gsmx2 network. In fact I downloaded a load of FrontPage themes yesterday and will see if a Halloween theme is included.
Just one caveat: We ll be gone from mid-September to mid-October so someone else will need to take over the page that last period of time. Oh, and we probably won t make the rally having spent a month camping in the Western U.S., our bed will feel very very good.
But then again..... one never knows what the designated SuperCampers will do.

Same suspects, same pop-ups. Same order? We made our reservations today. Randy, we re next to you again. LOL Bring your space heaters -- the dealer said they fixed it, but it s not [:@]. If it s not fixed by then, we may need them again! LOL
Wait, the VLR guy gave me the info on who was where (I didn t ask, he volunteered when I said we were joining friends and wanted the next spot), but he didn t mention Scott and Georgeanne. Are you guys in 22? I wanted that one and it was gone already.

We opted for " close to the restroom" and didn t mention our affiliation when we made our reservations. So what site did you get? I m feeling luck that we got near to each other even if we can t all line up perfectly.

Hey everyone! We just booked site 16 for the Mini-Rally. This was something unexpected but we were chomping at the bit to go.
Hope you can handle the 5 of us + Max. We look forward to seeing you again and meeting MrFlinders.

Proof again that " if you build it, they will come!"
Super exciting. OK, here s the good news/bad news situation.
Good news: We are coming up on Thursday so we ll be there to photograph everyone setting up.
Bad news: I cannot get off on work on Sunday, so we ll have to leave Saturday.
Good news: We don t have to be home early on Saturday, so we re going to hang around for dinner, whatever that may be.

Does anyone have any other ideas?
Jacqui
OC CampersHey all!
If Tamara gets her cooking table in time (I think she will) - she will be making something in the DO. Not sure yet. Most likely from Moose & Moosette s Recipe CD s. Once she figures it out - we ll post it.
She made Moose s Peach Cobbler in the DO & cooked it in the oven & it was great [:D]

It sounds like a Dutch Oven potluck could be very possible---and should guarentee that we meet our " way to much food" standard.
Since we don t have a dutch oven, we ll probably bring a salad.
gsm x2
griffsmomA dutch oven potluck? Hmmm... We have one but will only be using it the first time this weekend to make Mooses peach cobbler. I will have to look for an easy recipe that we could do, like beef stew or something of the like.

griffsmomPlease note that the Web page for this rally created by our very own gsm has been changed. The new URL is http://www.sccampers.org/temeculamini/

griffsmomWOW, a Dutch oven rally with a side salad. And we ll be camping in the San Bernadino forest.
Well, we started changing utilities and addresses. Ordered the dumpster and rented a truck. Have the big bottle of Advil ready. One of our sons will be there to help us Saturday through Monday. He got Monday off so this will be a big help. I m no help to Paula this week as I travel up north again.

griffsmomHey Scott, Randy and I are going to be camping at Sycamore Cove/Canyon with our neighbors over memorial weekend (I never know what the exact name of the campground is, they keep changing it) if you and Georgeanne are out and about. Saturday night is Taco nite if you are interested.[:D]
Jacqui
PS just read on NNC that you are riding your bike. Randy is into Mountain Biking and is bringing his bike this weekend. He would love company on his ride. From what I remember there are some really good trails to ride on at Sycamore Canyon.

Jacqui,
That sounds great, but unfortunately I am working eleven hour shifts, from 9:00 - 8:00 both Saturday and Sunday, so not possible.
Yes--great mountain biking up Sycamore Canyon. Mine is a road bike only although G and I are talking about getting some inexpensive mountain bikes for cruising around.
Have fun. Thanks for the invite.

OC CampersSince we don t have a DO and we tend to cook easy when we camp, I think I better come up with some sort of dessert(s). I ll volunteer for that. It may be simple cookies, but it may be something more like cheesecake or something. How does that sound? I won t be able to compete with Moose s peach cobbler. If someone has dessert covered and I missed it, let me know and I ll change my contribution.

I checked out the Web site listed, and it looks like the bands will be out at Lake Skinner, whcih I don t think is too far from VLR. We shouldbe able to see the balloons from where we re camping though. I m looking forward to seeing those and showing them to Lil Griffy!
Actually I forgot to post one thing about our trip to VLR this past weekend. We were sitting by the campfire on Saturday night and we could hear a bunch of Bob Seger songs. Of course, we immediately thought of Randy and how it was probably only " Bobb Seegar" playing. We were besides ourselves laughing silly![;)]

Yes, my husband is a little crazy about his rock music. And yes he loves Bob Seger too. Heaven help me if he ever comes to VLR to play.
I love to watch hot air balloons. I can actually say, I have been up in one. My dad bought my mom a ride in a hot air balloon a few years ago. Unfortunately, he was over weight and scared of heights so I got to go with her. This was one of the coolest experiences. What a view!!

OC CampersWe (by we I mean Kerry...) are thinking of bringing Spaghetti for the potluck. After all, everyone loves spaghetti, right? [;)] Another idea Kerry has is instead of spaghetti, bring some Garlic Mashed Potatoes to compliment all the main dishes from the DO s..... Any thoughts?
Also, are we doing a breakfast thing Saturday morning? Kerry offered to make up some french toast to contribute. As for me, I will be contributing my brilliant smile and sparkling personality.[;)]
OC CampersWe ll make chicken pot pie for the potluck. I decided to just make something up in the DO tonight and using about 3 different recipes for reference, did a chicken pot pie in the DO. It was good! Even my 17 y/o stepson and his buddy had 3 helpings each--a true sign of success! Here s what it looked like before we demolished it: http://community.webshots.com/album/74475018SFRelW
We ll do sausage and fruit for the shared breakfast. [:D]
OC CampersLooks yummy, Lori! Since we don t DO (yet), I m making my colorful, tasty and good for you veggie salad. It s heart healthy and I still love it. [8D] And for the sweet tooth... Rice Krispie treats. How about oatmeal for breakfast? With raisins and brown sugar. Does anyone besides me and Scott like that? We will also bring OJ with and without pulp. [:D]

QuoteWe ll do sausage and fruit for the shared breakfast.
Ah, the Ying and the Yang of " cholesterol for breakfast" . " Why, yes, thank you, I ll take some of each." [:D]
gsm x2
OC CampersOk, we will be doing a heart attack on a plate.
Randy will be making biscuits with gravy and chorizo and eggs. The biscuits will be DO done.
For the potluck dinner it will be a DO casserole of some sort. I am shopping for a new DO cookbook.
Jacqui
P.S. We ended up at Vail Lake this weekend. Had a great time once we got settled in on the correct site.[:@]. We also brought and used the DO and just loved it. We made Mooses beef stroganoff and his peach cobbler. Our tent camping friends that came with us were quite impressed and are thinking of buying one themselves.
OC CampersUm, uh,[:o], I don t quite know how to say this, uh, but we re not going to be able to come with you after all [:(]. My daughter s All Star coach, after giving us the three firm tournament dates and telling us we MAY have a tournament the weekend of the 13th, called at 10 PM last night and told us he got us into a tournament the weekend of the 6th [:@]. After me screaming at him that he can t do this to me, I have camping reservations and he said it would be the 13th, I calmed down and told him she d be there. He even offered to keep her that weekend so we could still go, but we thought that wouldn t be very fair to her, and I m a stage mom and she can t play without me being there to cheer her on! That s the price of having the #1 All Star pitcher in the family, I guess [:)].
So anyway, someone else needs to pick up my dessert duty for that night. I m going to try to make it up to the family by getting into the Thousand Trailers campground with our free offer (You know, the time share sit-through in exchange for a free weekend) on the following weekend. If the coach enters us into a tourney that weekend, I ll kill him [>:].
SimiRich, you might want to see if you can change to our spot so there won t be a stranger camping in the midst of everyone from our group. I ll probably call tomorrow to cancel. E-mail me if you want to coordinate our cancelling with you changing so they don t give the site to just anyone who calls.
Anyone remember the cancellation policy? Will I lose the first night fees? Or if anyone wants to add on, could they pick up my spot to save my fees and just reimburse me? Keep it in mind if anyone else wants to go.
Man, I was so looking forward to showing off my lawn chairs that Randy liked so much. We had them airbrushed with " The Camping Coxes" on the back, and they look really cool! Paul s really disappointed too. I hope you all have a really great time.

Aaagh! We re so glad to be back among friends! [:)]
We sneaked off to Soledad Canyon to finally take advantage of the " free weekend" sales pitch we ve been putting off for over a year. YUCK![: (]
We really didn t like it, and mostly it was because nobody from here was there!
Actually it seemed like EVERYBODY in L.A. was there. I ve never seen so many people in one place in my life! And talk about " different" ..we were just shocked at the caliber of people there. Usually folks who drive lowered vehicles, are tattooed and pierced from head to toe and blast rap music non-stop just don t go camping a whole lot, at least not in our experience! I was afraid to run into one of the teenage girls in a dark alley!
The pool was so crowded they had to close it off and let the kids in in shifts. It was ugly! There was nothing there to entice us to spend $4000 on a membership and $400 per year in dues!
Then, to add insult to injury, the " free 30-day Thousand Trails membership" we were supposed to receive just for coming to visit turned out to be good only if we left that park and went straight to another park and never spent a single night away from a TT Park for the whole 30 consecutive days! [>:]
We were really bummed because we actually wanted to go to Idyllwild as our one and only free visit and figured this way we could see it and another one, too! Oh, well. [:(]
Really makes me appreciate all you wonderful folks all the more! Sure wish we could go to the Temecula Mini, but Erik graduates from 6th grade that Friday and since we missed his Kindergarten graduation, he s really looking forward to this one!!! (Yes, REALLY!)
Hope you all had wonderful weekends camping!
J.R. and Sue, since we had to come home a day " early," we d love to come visit your street bash tomorrow. Lake Forest may be a little far for us, though. When are you going to be partying? Erik and Alison still remember KoAi from Lake Casitas (we were camped right next door to you, remember?)
Anyway, it s great to be back among friends!

I was gonna mention that if you have a shade structure, it may be a good idea to pack it. Last weekend the weather guy was saying 104 in temecula. Hopefully, it won t be as hot this time.

4 Days for Friday arrivals!
We got the bunk end covers and hopefully we have a tree! That pool might be a blessing if it gets up to 104 this weekend. I m going to practice the traditions of Mexico... Siestas and Margaritas! [:D]
mrflindersI am seeing forcasts with highs in the Low 80s for this weekend in Temecula, so maybe it wont be so hot after all.

1 day for GSM s and Thursday arrivials 2 days to go for Friday arrivials Don t worry about this weekend s weather. Mother Nature and I are tight! I gave her some Black Cohosh and by the weekend the skies will be partly sunny. Which is good since it will keep us cooler in Temecula!
mrflindersYes, it is almost time for this rally. Yippee!!! It would be awesome if the weather cooperated. 80 s would be just fine by me. Our bunkend covers hopefully will be here friday per Popupgizmos.
I was wondering if anyone had one of those portable fire pits? We bought one from Cabela s but it is on backorder and we won t have it in time. I guess we will just have to pay the $12 a night to rent one. Bailey s and coffee at our site!!

I think Lori & Dave have a portable fire pit. They did last time, but I think they might have even bought another one. I ve got some Emmett s that Scott says is like Bailey s that I ll bring along. In coffee it should be undetectable that it s not the real thing, right?
mrflindersEmmets is what we have too. It a lot less expensive and tastes just a wonderful. I think I might splurge and get some spray whip cream. YUMM!!
Hopefully, Lori will bring her fire pit. She must be busy haven t heard a sound from her lately. Lori, YOO HOO!! Are you out there???[;)][8D]

Maybe she s helping Cottonwooder remodel. Personally, I can t wait to be away from here for a few days. I much prefer camping with the group, rather than posting messages. Don t get me wrong, it s a great communication tool, but raising a toast in person is so much better. And, cyber s mores aren t that great either!

Work and life have been crazy this week! I m ready to get away!!! We re going to try to go up Thursday just so we can stretch the weekend out a bit. It seems like the time goes so fast when you arrive on Friday! My mom will be coming with us too so we re really looking forward to this weekend. g-whizWaaaaah. And here I am, stuck at the computer.
BUT..... Emily pitched a no-hitter in her first game, got a triple with two RBIs and a double with two more RBIs. Then her next game (15 minute break between) was not a no-hitter, but she did strike out 15 batters. The last two innings she pitched exactly 9 pitches each inning. She got to her eighth pitch and I said, " Give ya $5 if you make it an even 9 pitches." And she did it. Then the next inning she asked me if I wanted to do it again. I thought, what are the chances of her doing it twice? I ll be darned if she didn t do it again! So I m out $10 and she got the game ball!
I hope you all are having a great time.

Wow--very impressive Emily. I had some fears that the tournement would be a flop. Very glad to see it was anything but.
We had to come home last night because I work this morning and couldn t get out of it. Everyone had a great time. Weather was perfect. Even hot enough for most of the kids to get into the non-heated pool. Not hot enough for too many adults to do the same.
Have to run off to get the camper washed on the way to work so it will be dry and ready to be put away clean before the Central California bugs splat on it on the way to Gold Coast in less than two weeks.
Scott
g-whizWe sure had fun down in them thar hills of Temecula and could not have asked for better weather. Although the early morning was a bit overcast, the sun soon broke through with the temperature at about 80. In my book, that is perfect! Even the fact that Scott and I had to leave last night after the potluck instead of today, couldn t spoil our good time. We were home and in bed by 11:30 p.m.
It was fun meeting Lori s mom, Winn, and we all finally got to meet Randy s (MrFlinders) wife, Kerry. The Dutch Oven cooking was fantastic, and boy, would Old Moose and Moosette have been proud of their students. I give them all an A+! It will be interesting to see what NNC does after the DO seminar at the Gold Rush Rally in a couple of weeks since down South it is SCC Gone Wild!!!
Scott and I haven t invested in the DO s (yet), but I m proud to say that my Rice Krispie treats got rave reviews! I kid you not!!! I had kids (and Griffsdad) coming up to me saying things like, " These Rice Krispie treats are to die for!" And, " Those are the best Rice Krispie treats I ever tasted!" So now I can add another specialty to my list of things to bring to the potlucks... shrimp & Rice Krispie Treats!
With less than two weeks to go until Gold Rush, the excitement is rising! Talking about it at our mini rally made us feel like kids waiting for Christmas to arrive. Then there is the fact that OC Campers might have to change their name soon to Sac Campers! How exciting is that?!
I ll get the photos up later when Scott gets home from work. Can t wait to hear the rest of the weekend adventures!
g-whizWe made it home safe and sound. Traffic was pretty good.
We had a really fun time at Vail Lake. It is so wonderful to watch the kids interact together. The 2 monkey boys Griffin and Matthew were hilarious together. It took Matthew awhile to get used to being hugged by Griffy.
The food was amazing. I agree with Georgeanne, I think we did Moose and Young Moosette proud. We had so much food, I think there was enough left over for another potluck. Lori, I copied a bunch of recipes out of your cookbooks and can t wait to try them out. Since the Nick Neffs haven t had their seminar yet, I can t wait to try a new recipe for thier potluck. With having 36 families signed up, I think we will be able to feed them no problem with our 12" DO.
Congratulations Emily on your tournament pitching. It definately sounds like you had a wonderful day. We missed the Cox family anyway.
Randy and Kerry, we found a grey and red sweatshirt in the back of our van, does it belong to one of your boys? If so, if you e-mail me your address, I can mail it to you.
Scott and Georgeanne, sorry you had to leave so early but we are looking forward to caravaning up to Gold Rush. It will be here before you know it.

g-whizWell,
We made it home safe, too, with little traffic and smooth sailing. We all had a great time! Kerry s first rally, and she really enjoyed herself. Lots of fun!
The Saturday morning breakfast was absolutely wonderful - I can still taste Randy s biscuits and gravy. And SimiRich - can you ask Tamara to email Kerry ( Kerry@flindersfamily.com) - she is dying to get ahold of that potato recipe!
Our boys had a blast, getting in some swimming, mini-golf, arcade games, and two potluck meals all in one day. We all ate so much great food... It makes coming home to regular meals seem, well, ...... boring. We don t have a DO yet, but I don t think it ll be long. . .
I will have to say that I really missed the Camping Coxes, I pulled out one of our little electric heaters on Saturday night - and I thought of you guys! [:D]
I sure hope that Griffsmom made it home OK. When we left Lori and Dave were arguing with the hitch of the trailer, which was not in the mood to link up with the Trooper. Popups get cranky sometimes. (hey cranky - thats kind of like a play on words.....[8D]). We really enjoyed meeting Winn, who has probably been in line at the grocery store in front of us before, being in that she lives around the corner from us!
QuoteRandy and Kerry, we found a grey and red sweatshirt in the back of our van, does it belong to one of your boys? If so, if you e-mail me your address, I can mail it to you.
It doesn t belong to my two, but I ll check with Dillon the neighbor boy, it may be his. It could belong to SimiLuke - I think he spent some time in your trailer playing with Matt.
Scott and Georgeanne, we missed you aroung the campfire on Saturday night - but we sure were glad to have your company for the rest of the trip. The shrimp was a great addition to the experience - thanks Georgeanne!
Great weather, great company, lots of fun, enough food to feed an arny - I d say it was a successful trip! I ve got my conference to put on this week, but after it s over I ll get my photos posted so that we can relive the weekend - over.....and over....and over...[8D]
g-whizGriffy s finally down and I ve got a few minutes to thank all of you for a wonderful weekend. We left for VLR on Thursday afternoon amidst dreadful drizzle in Foothill Ranch but it continued to clear the closer we got to Temecula. We thought for sure that Scott and Georgeanne would be there to greet us, but we were the first to arrive! We set up, went to eat (Rosa s in Old Town Temecula is not fancy but they make great carne asada and homemade salsa!) and when we got back, Scott and Georgeanne had arrived.
Friday dawned overcast but turned out nicer than Thursday and we had a leisurely day of swimming in the kiddie pool with Griffin, then reading and relaxing when Griffy took his nap. Everyone started arriving early Friday evening and with the exception of a botched reservation for SimiRich (who took it in very good stride) that couldn t even be rectified by He-Who-Cannot-Be-Refused, set up went well. We enjoyed chili jelly and cream cheese appetizers and some wonderful tri-tip, the now-requisite margaritas, and a group campfire and turned in with visions of a shared breakfast dancing in our heads.
Saturday dawned overcast again, but quickly burned away and really warmed up! The day seemed to revolve around food. We had a wonderful breakfast complete with our first yummy DO dishes of the day. Randy, Dave loves biscuits and gravy and just doesn t get to have them that often, so that was a real treat for him. And Tamara, my mom wanted me to make sure you post that recipe! [:)] We spent the afternoon swimming (Dave, Griffin and I went in both the little and big pools, and they were actually quite nice), copying DO recipes and talking about what DO dish we were going to make for dinner. It was sad though, to see Scott and Georgeanne s " Pops Up Anywhere" all popped down and ready to go before we had even eaten dinner. Dinner was awesome, and everything turned out perfectly EXCEPT for what everyone was too kind to mention. Moose, I might need private tutoring... [:)] The never-ending slideshow that Randy set up on his laptop during dinner was a nice touch too.
This morning didn t mess around with clouds (except for two miles after leaving camp!)--obviously because we were all popping down. I wish we could have stayed just one more day! We had a great time, and Griffin couldn t stop babbling about " Stott" (Scott), " Showge" (George) and " Sassoo" (Matthew) until he finally conked out on the drive home. BTW, Randya nd Kerry, I m sorry again for Griffin beating up the boys. He may be small but he s most definitely mighty! My mom had an absolutely tremendous time and couldn t believe how nice everyone was and why you all put up with me. She truly hopes to see you all again![:D]
Trina, I m glad that Emily had a game that she ll remember for the rest of her life, but we still missed you and everyone else who wasn t there.
As for a new name for OC campers without the word " traitors" in it, hmmm...I ve got nothing.[;)]
Bummer about Jalama. [>:][:(][: (] I hope that you ll be able to work your charm on the phone with a live person Rich! If not, is there some other beach we could get into in July?
PS Randy--Dave and I finally won that argument with the hitch, but it sure didn t go easy. We finally figured out that someone, my guess would be a little monkey boy, had been playing with the thingy that you have to push down and put the hitch pin in once the coupler goes down onto the ball, so we reset that and then the pop up coupled the hitch just fine.
That about sums it up. Can t wait to see everyone s phots, especially since we didn t take any![:)] Night night for now! [:D]

QuoteRandy and I were talking about having to change our screen name if we move. Anybody have any ideas? We are open to suggestions. Anything with the work traitor won t work .
This may be difficult because my first thoughts were " SactoCampers" , but that was taken. Then since you are moving from Orange County to Sacramento County, " SC Campers" would be a perfect transition, but again a bit confusing.
Hmmm....guess I ll have to think about it some more. Got some chores to do before I head to work.
BTW--sorry we had to leave early too, but sometimes you gots to do what you gots to do. Except for a small medical call and hauling dead seals out to sea, Sunday was one slow day. No sun - no crowds.

g-whizHello SCCampers:
After reading the post rally reviews, it certainly fills one with glee that you had an excellent event. Seeing the familiar names, like Lori & Dave, Jaqui & Randy, SimiRich & family, the Mooses, and of course Scott & Georgeanne, I feel like I could have felt just at home at the expansion team s campground.
The Dutch Oven, or D.O. sounds like a hit again. Our abalone was a hit. Now, if we combined the two, abalone in a D.O., I m sure it d taste so good we d be up all night " jonsing!"
Scott made an attempt to conference call our NNC rally, but up here in the more primitive NorCal, I didn t have a cell phone signal. They should send that Verizon guy up there, " can you hear me now partner?"
For the Gold Rush Rally, there is still room left, especially for any last minute SoCal members that can participate. Nonetheless, I think it appropo we give ourselves a pat on the back for having pulled off simultaneous rallies. Our wagonmaster Dave lead a toast for you folks during our campfire. So our thoughts weren t too far away.
Lastly, Scott, thanks for your phone call. It was the coolest gesture to the NNC members.

LOL! The boys loved seeing Griffin and Matt - they know they re not getting any little brothers of their own - so they are into enjoying the little ones when they can. Especially Ryan. And one thing you can say about Griff - he s honest up front. When Kerry asked Griffin if he goes to school, he shook his head yes and then informed her, "

ROTFLMHO![:D] Yes, he is honest. The funniest part about him warning Kerry that he hits is the look he had on his face when he said it. It was almost a look of sadness mixed with disgust with himself for doing it but also of resignation that he just can t help it! [:)] He had such a great time playing with all the big kids and hugging the one his age. I will carry the picture of him putting his arm protectively around Sassoo as a car drove by. It was truly a sweet gesture. I prefer it to the one of him hitting or walking on other children s heads. [:@][;)]

QuoteWow--very impressive Emily. I had some fears that the tournement would be a flop. Very glad to see it was anything but.
While I missed you guys (and all that food!), we had a great tournament. Emily s team took first place. Emily pitched yet another no-hitter on Sunday, and got another triple. She had parents from other teams coming over to watch her (word got out about this great 8 & under division pitcher). If we had to miss camping, at least it was worth our while!
We are going to Jalama this weekend. Paul s brother lives about an hour north of there and is going to put our name in at 8:00 AM Thursday. We should have no problem getting there by roll call on Thursday afternoon. Wish us luck. Too bad the group reservations are full until November -- I wanted to look into it for our church campout. I hope the weather is good for us. This June gloom is really bad this year! I m ready for sunny weather!

So whereever you are and whatever you are doing in ten days from now, watch out because some time, some way some one may ring your phone and say, " Can you hear me know?"

Camping CoxesSounds like you guys all had a fabulous time! We sure missed being there. I thought about you all weekend, being SO bummed to have missed it.
But Erik had his graduation from 6th grade on Friday night and believe it or not, he has been looking forward to it for about as long as I can remember, so we didn t dare miss it. He was the only kid there to show up in a suit! (I don t think even the high schoolers were wearing suits under their robes!) He looked so cute, it made it worth missing the mini-rally!
Then as it turned out he got deathly sick, so I m glad we dealt with that at home rather than camping. I guess it all worked out as it should!
But BOY, we can t wait for the Gold Rush Rally in just 9 short days!

Hi Surfie, I don t think Griffsmom is moving. So far it appears that Randy and I and the kids are the only crazy family going to do this. It isn t definate yet but we should know more in a few weeks. If it is a go, we should be relocated Sept/Oct of this year. We are gonna use Gold Rush as an excuse to snoop around the Sacramento area for some housing ideas. Now you will never get rid of us.[:D][;)]

The photos the kids took blew me away. As they walked away I was thinking, " Hey, this is a good reason to have a digital camera. Kids can shoot and no waste of film."
Please keep the camera strap on your wrist. Certainly didn t expect the best picture on the roll to be taken by a kid. I ll never let them touch my camera again. [;)]
OK--they can. But I will check for fingerprints on the lens next time they bring the camera back. Bad case of the smudgies that is visible on a few shots.

LOL! You are a brave man Scott. I worry when our boys handle our silly little $130.00 35mm camera.

Not really that brave. Here are a few tips.
[ul]
- Make sure that you have seen that the child s parents have allowed the child to take pictures with their newer, nicer and more expensive camera
- Make sure there is only ONE child around when you hand off the camera...one strap will not fit around two wrists so a fight will certainly ensue in which the camera will be the loser
- Establish rapport with the child BEFORE you hand them the camera
- Have faith in a spiritual being even if it is Good Karma
