Which one of these suits you best?

I make the fire I want with whatever every time.  If I, er, PJay wants a cooking fire, that s what she gets.  If I want a warmth fire, it will be a hot one.  If I want a blazing inferno, it will be 15 feet tall.  If I want something to simmer all day, that s what I build.

I am a master fire builder.

I can get most wood to burn.  With reasonably dry wood, I will start it with one match.  Although I ususally use a starting aid (fire starters, lighter fluid, etc.), I can (and sometimes PJay goads me into) using only wood and bark.  It s more work, but with a saw, axe, knife, wood, and a single match, I can get any kind of fire you want.

I no longer scavange...I either bring my own or buy local.  My experience is, if wood isn t available locally, there s probably a fire ban anyway.

So I voted for that glow on the horizon.  Not very often, but sometimes, if that s what I want, that s me.

TrlrboyOther- As I usually camp at state parks, I usually buy their wood figuring they could use the money. The one exception is Ma. State Parks!!! They get like $5.00 for 5 pieces of wood! I know they need money too but they are already charging me extra because I m not a resident, don t rip me off on wood!

TrlrboyGotta brag about #3. I have access to about 2 yrs worth of firewood. Unfortunately, I have to share it with 2 5er s, 3 TT s, and 4 pop-ups. But I m one of the few who actually splits it.[;)][8D]

TrlrboyUnless we are going to a place where we can cut/collect deadfall wood, we bring our own firewood. At the price some places charge for a *tiny* bundle of wood, the cost of an evening and morning campfire would be more than the campsite itself.

TrlrboyVermont state parks charge $2.00 for what they call an armload, usually takes me at least two trips and I m 6 3"  and 250 lbs, and have got BIG arms! I don t want the DIRT or the wear and tear of hauling it myself at that price!

TrlrboyWe take our own, I pick up dead wood from the forests where we camp and my husband buys wood when he sees a grea bargain.
The state park near us was hit by a  tornado two years ago and has lots of dry downed wood that we can pick up.  Luckily it did not hit the campground and it was late in the year so there was only one campsite occupied.  They had to bring in machinery to pull trees out of the way so it could get out.
