Title: Husband decided on the mountains over Cherry Hill
Post by: Mahaffey-Family on Sep 28, 2003, 07:05 PM
We will be camping at Cherry Hill Park near Washington, D.C. The week of July 6th.  Anyone else camping there that week?  We won t be here after all.  My husband wants me to find a nice quiet place for the family.  He wants to fish, swim and rest.  If you know of anything like this let me know.

Mahaffey-FamilyTry the National forests or the Corps of Engineers campgrounds.  Some of them have electricity, some have water at each site and often flush toilets. OK, the flush toilets are not at each site.

Mahaffey-FamilyI m with your husband!  LOL...Just driving by Cherry Hill gives me the shivers. (and we drive by it often!) It s smack dab in the middle of two interstates in a not great part of town, even though it s clean, nice, all those things...it s wall to wall people and I just couldn t imagine staying there!!!

On the Virginia side, try either Pohick (on the Potomac River) a Northern Virginia park   http://www.nvrpa.org/pohickcamp.html   , or Burke Lake (good fishing but no hookups....)  or LAke Farifax park in Fairfax county    http://www.co.fairfax.va.us/parks/campgrounds.htm

On the Maryland side..here is a link to the state park systems.  http://www.dnr.state.md.us/publiclands/central/susquehanna.html

Mahaffey-Familyall the above listed Virgnina sites were IF you re planning on going in to DC for the fireworks! There are even nicer places if you aren t going to try that. These are just all not too terribly far away from DC or a Metro stop!
