Title: Back from 2003 Eastern Rally
Post by: NCSunshine on Sep 28, 2003, 07:05 PM
Even though we had to shorten our trip, we had a great time(we arrived Sunday and left today, Wednesday).  Weather was beautiful, no a/c and closed up at night with small heater to keep chill out of the air for the kids.(I usually use the a/c because of being very hot natured, but didn t have to)

To everyone who was there, I really enjoyed meeting you[:)]

Met so many that I m afraid to list in case I left out someone s name and offended them. Everyone is just as friendly as on the boards, plus more. It was just like a big family reunion, enjoyed the campfires [:)](like always I arrived late due to the little ones).  I have pictures but will have to post them later.

The CG was great, kids loved the swimming pool, water slide, paddle boats, and mini-golf.  The band they had was very good, did not attend the meal so I can t comment on that.  At the silent auction, great bargains were had and the prizes were wonderful.  Wish you guys were there, you know, the more the merrier[:D]

The only thing I would have been happier without was the locust, but they were not a big problem, just a minor nuisance, and may not have been a problem at all to some.  Came home to a big problem/nuisance, a ringing telephone.  I m ready to go back if it rings one more time tonight[:@]

It s good to be home, but we leave again Friday or Saturday to spend week of the Fourth at the lake house[:D]

NCSunshineAh, you left before it got hot out!!! It s really warmed up here in the last couple of days. I too didn t need A/C last weekend, but it s running overtime right now, it s 83ยง outside right now, and that s 10:20pm.... Uggghhhh

Wish I could have made that trip, I really wanted to see how Birol was making out with the MOAT... Guess I ll have to wait for it to be posted later this week/next week...

NCSunshineWith chasing and entertaining three young kids, I didn t get a lot of time to visit.  Mainly just got to see everyone as they were passing by our site or at the campfires or silent auction.

I know this may sound ugly but one time I would like to go without the kids or bring someone along just to keep the kids while I go socialize.  Then I feel guilty for thinking that, because they won t be little forever and I don t want to miss out.

NCSunshineDont feel guilty i think that would be great sometime also, but then all you and I would worry about what they were doing at home with the sitter etc....This time I am leaving the dogs home so that helps a biit!

Doesn t sound ugly at all!  We went out with some PUT friends over Memorial Day Weekend.  DH spent a lot of time watching/chasing our kids, so I could visit.  Gave him a chance to spend time with them and time for me to enjoy my new friends.  (thanks, goose!)

We used to trade weekends with my brother. We d keep theirs for a week and they would keep ours. We used that time for ourselves, be it camping or staying home. Never feel guilty for wanting to play with adults now and then.
Afew days apart here or there is good for both you and the kids.

Thanks for letting me know that I am not the only one that feels that way.  We leave for the lake tomorrow for the week of the Fourth, I hope we have company to help entertain the kids.

NCSunshineWell we made it back today from our first ever Popuptimes rally.  We had a fantastic time with the exception of the locust & the bugs.  The owners of the RJ Ranch were very thoughtful & bent over backwards to help our rally out as much as possible.  We met so many wonderful members and made some really close friends with some [:D].  I would highly recommend the RJ Ranch for anyone to take the family to for a vacation or even just a weekend.
We had some problems with our new Jayco due to the brakes failed on the way home, a brake line broke & we had no brakes at all so that wasn t much fun.

NCSunshineI enjoyed meeting everyone as well. Holly always loves meeting people too, even though she doesn t know people from the board as well as I do. I keep her up on significant life events for board members (like GeneF s bacon grease accident and retirement).

Just so folks know, our numerous visitors were NOT locusts. They were cicadas. A locust is more like a grasshopper (often hard to tell the difference). Locusts are also often very destructive to crops. Cicadas, on the other hand, are a nuisance only because of their number and size. They make great fishing bait too!

I hope to meet folks again sometime. We really enjoyed this week!

NCSunshineWe made it home last night without any problems.  We had a great time.  The only problem I saw was there wasn t enough time to meet everyone.[:@]  I can t wait to do it again.  The PU is set up in the front yard and was hosed down (it needed rinsed off because we were at the beach before the rally) last night.  I will be taking it to the dealer for its new roof[>:].  The rally was the last trip with the ABS.

NCSunshineWe made it home in about 11 hours.  Cleaned out the camper, now just have to wait to clean the outside.  It s raining here. (What a surprise)[;)]  We had a great time and are looking forward to the next one.  Like Campingcop, I too hope it s close to home.  If not, we may still go anyway.  There are some pictures on my website of the water slide and wine tasting.

NCSunshineWe made it home OK, both cars. I left a little earlier than Raymond did (yes this time he did circulate some and stayed the whole trip!) Was tired after taking down the Bantam (it is not the trailer, it is the stuff). then had to help Kim (SIL) with the canvas on the Jayco...some people do not know what V-folding the canvas is, and that you have to put up the door before you crank down...

It was a little over 8 hours with one stop.
Thanks Sandy and Neal for the short cut, did not save much time as the mountain going into Harper s Ferry was stop and go until I hit the traffic light, but it was gorgeous.
There was a car on fire on I 70, called *77 to report it (MD State Police Cell number), the dispatcher asked me if I was sure the car was on fire, I told him that there was yellow stuff unter the car that looked like flames to me.  I was not happy going by it as everyone moved over and left no room for me to move left, so I had to pass the car in the right lane. By the time Raymond passed it, it was on the radio and the car was compeletely burned. When I passed everyone was safely out and standing away form the car.

If we could have swung it, wewould have loved another week, one with out the grandkids, and puppy they picked up right out side the Galax Walmart. We had a great spot, right by the lake, a direct walk/view of the fishing pier. The RJ people suggested this spot when I reserved.

Birol did quite well with the MOAT. His kids stayed close to him, they seemed very very well behaved. How he is on the board is how he was in real life.

next time we will leave the SIL at home to baby sit his kids (yeah right). We will probably go back again, but rent one of the cabins over all it would be about the same price considering gas for 2 vehicles (we could take the Windstar)

NCSunshineIt s good to see that everyone made it home with little or no problems. We also made it home okay and am already missing the fun we had at RJ. We had a little excitement on the roadtrip home as someone in front of us lost a brand new BBQ grill off the back of their pickup truck. Fortunately for us, it stayed attached to their truck by one bunjee cord as they pulled over to the side of the road. We just had small debrie and flying paper work to avoid. We really enjoyed meeting everyone and talking around the campfires. Hope to meet everyone in the near future again!
P.S. CAPEd CODger wants to thank Birol for the " Canadian"  headache! But he says it was worth it!
Thankyou so much to TIM5055, Dave, and Charlie for hosting/organizing a great rally.
P.P.S. My DS wants to thank Dave for his doorprizes which made his weekend!!
We ve only gone through about half a box of bandaids so far as he is whittlin  away!
 Again, Thank You All,
 Cheryl

CherylJust got back home Saturday but not from camping[:(]  We spent 9 days at the lake.  Checking out the board to see if everyone made it home.

Glad to see everyone is back home, and doing good.  Like I said before, it was great meeting everyone.
