Title: Porta Potti Storage !
Post by: birol on Sep 28, 2003, 07:05 PM
If the Porta Potti does not fit into the Porta Potti storage location in the PU, what will we do ?????? Cut a larger door ? Keep it outside ? what what ? I couldn t sleep because fo this last night !

My endless questions are starting ! Just wait when I get the PU !

Starcraft sent us the brochure and the owners manual for the PU, I am going thru it now , joy joy joy [:D]

birolWell, you could add  on a room.....especially built for the exclusive use of the potti.....or you could take out the dinnette seat and custom build a spot.....or you could do what we do..................put it on the floor of the camper when you close up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually, we will have the same problem you do.....not sure if it will fit in the " designated"  area......

 birolBirol,

 Please!!!!

You have entirely TOO much time on your hands.
This leads to " mind wandering" , too much worrying, thinking too much, etc.
Your posts give you away :)

birolbirol, my Starcraft has a porta potti access door to the storage compartment on the end of the dinette bench.  Even if this opening is a little small you can make it a bit larger as some people have had to do.  I know someone who used a Rotozip to make the opening a little larger.  I didn t have any problem with the Thetford 155.  If the popup doesn t have a door on the dinette bench end, you can install one by custom cutting the opening for your portapotty and making a door out of plywood to fit.  It seems like Yguy or Tim or someone has how-to info on their websites.

 (edited to 155 not a 565)

Give it up!  Part of PopUp ing is the quest of places to put things.  It never ends.  Just think of it as a challenge:  Today the porta potty; tomorrow the toilet paper![8D]

 birolBirol,

Porta-potti storage cabinets in the PU should hold your potty unless it is a very tall or large one.  Mine is a Thetford 135 and it fits fine in the cabinet with several inches to spare on the top.

Sportsman s Guide has the $20 pop-up outhouses right now. Check out the Product Review forum for the link.  This is a good looking and inexpensive place to keep your potty at the campsite.

birolBirol have you used the potty yet?

You will have to wait until you get the potty to make sure.  Now you will not be able to sleep at night and you will soon go soooo crazy.  You will be babbling about porta potties when they come to lock you up.[;)][:D]

Keep thinking buddy and I will see if I can help you.

PS when you get the PU you will have to try fitting different objects in different spots until you get everything just right.

birolPotty snob here- for medical reasons really.

One of the reasons we didn;t get a Bayside was because there wasn t a cabinet to modify for a potty, like we did in our Sedona. (we also needed the gaucho couch for DD, which as bewen perfect for 2 years now).

 Our potty solution:

My sister bought a seperate little tent from Sportsman s Guide for $20 for her potty.

birolI have the Thetford 155 and it fits easily in the designated storage area in the Utah for travel. Prior to the Thetford, I had one of the round hassock potties. It was too wide to go in the door of the cabinet, but it would fit if we put it on its side and rolled it in.

As for in camp, I have one of the Paha Que Tepee " outhouses" . We set it up just outside the door, just off the mat, and put the Thetford in it. Very handy for those late night/early morning visits when you don t want to have to hike to the supplied PortaLets. It s also great for showers when we camp at the tracks that don t have bathhouses. The Tepee is expensive, but we ve used it enough to make it well worth it! It s also very well-made, and has some very handy features. I believe it s available in the PUT store, and I would highly recommend it.

(It even has a little crescent moon on the door, so you know for sure it s an outhouse! LOL!!)

We had the Tepee up at Bristol in March and had a lot of people stop and ask questions about it.

 birolBirol,
Have you asked Fire about the storage cab for the potti.  Get him to send the measurements to you so you will know if it will fit.  At night you can pull it out of the storage cab and place it somewhere in the center of the camper.  I made a privacy screen surrounding the  potti using velco attached to the ceiling and a sheet which is tied back out of the way during the day when the potti is stored away.   Having the outside potti tent might be more practical so you can leave it in one spot.

I asked Le so many questions, I think he has ahd it with me and questions. So I didn t have the courage to ask this question :) I guess when we get it, I will measure. I saw somebody cut the top and make a folding cover, I might need to do that as this Potti is humongous !!!!!!!

If I get that job, we get the peetee thingie (or whatever it was  called) and be done with it :) it will just sit in the aisle while we are towing ......

I bet DW can t wait till the PU can come up so birol can go unto better things.[;)][;)]

We only use ours if an emergency and the bathroom is far away.  We only set it up once as we were a far walk, and when you have to go in the middle of the night, you have to go.  No sense in starting the TV and waking everyone.

QuoteThey really don t smell right ? We will only use it for #1, I set the ground rule already as I will be the only one emptying it

We have the same ground rule! As for the smell, apparently the chemicals work really well. When we were packing to leave Charlotte back in May, I didn t get a chance to empty the potti before we left. I intended to do so as soon as we got back. (You know what they say about good intentions![&:]) Well, what with getting back " in the groove"  of working, etc., I kept forgetting about it. Or when I did remember, it was late at night, pouring down rain, etc.

It was at least two weeks (longer, I think), before I got a chance to empty it. I thought to myself, " This is going to be nasty![: (]"  I pulled it out of the cabinet--no noticeable odor! I separated the top from the holding tank--still no odor! Carried it into the bathroom and emptied it--NO ODOR! I was impressed!

Clorox or Lysol or somebody like that makes disposable wipes for cleaning the toilet. I keep a pack of those in the potti s storage compartment, and then put them in the Tepee when the potti is set up. That way you can give the seat and the bowl a quick wipe occasionally to keep things clean and sanitary. (Although the wipes are supposed to be be flushable, we don t put them in the potti. They go in the trash.)
