Title: Westmoreland Fall Camping Trip/Virginia
Post by: stateparkgrl on Sep 28, 2003, 07:05 PM
Moderator, I tried to post this in the new " Virginia"  Club forum - but it is still locked.

Earl and I are planning a Camping Trip back to Westmoreland State Park the last weekend of September (Sept. 26-28). He is ready for some more salt water fishing - and the group seemed to like Westmoreland. For you who didn t join us before - Westmoreland is on the Potomac River, east of Fredericksburg on Route 3.

I have made my reservations. To join us, call the Virginia State Park reservation Center at 1-800-933-PARK.  We are going to try to get into Campground A again, but the reservations are not campground specific. Both campgrounds A and B are nice, and both have e/w.

As you make your reservations, please post your Popuptimes screen name, and your reservation number - so I can keep track. We will discuss a dinner, etc. later - once I see what the response is.

Let s have some fun on the river this fall!!!!

Moderator - can we move to the new Virginia Forum Soon?

 stateparkgrl[:)]stateparkgrl,

Long time no hear. Was wondering if the wife and I could join you all. Is there any room at the park yet? We would like to come down on the 25th of Sept leaving the 28th. I checked the web but not sure if it is filled or not. It states NS available E/W will assign upon arrival.?

 stateparkgrlWhitestar505,

I think that just means that the reservation center does not assign sites - and the reservation you make is not site speciific. Just call the 1-800-933-PARK number and reserve a w/e site - you can choose the site when you get there.

Don t wait too long - I know September is busy for them, and they didn t have many sites available a couple of weeks ago.

 Glad you can join us!!!

We are set with WildWildQwest, our reservations numbers are 388806 and 388808. I did request loop A W/E and sites together however you know the story on giving out site numbers and loops.
 See you on the 26th...

 stateparkgrlCLiff,

Nope, I am off on Friday, 9/12 and won t be back to work until Monday.  No big plans....except Earl and I are finally tying the knot on Saturday, 9/13 at Goshen Pass in Bath County.  Both of us are too busy (and too broke!) for a honeymoon right now...

If it s something I can discuss over the phone, give me a call at work.

 stateparkgrlLouise,
Are you talking about Goshen Pass on route 39.  If so this is Rockbridge County.  This sounds  like a cool wedding, I only live 10 miles from there.

Congratulations

I did it again, I forgot to log in.  That was my post above.

stateparkgrlYeah, I always forget that Goshen is on the other side of the county line. Most of our visits are in Millboro and Millboro Springs, and I forget that Goshen is in Rockbridge, not Bath.  Anyway - things are all planned for a very simple ceremony at Goshen Pass Wayside (rain backup at Goshen Baptist) with the reception (if you can call 15 people for dinner a " reception" !) at Douthat State Park Restaurant.

I guess this means that the Westmoreland Trip will be our " honeymoon"  !!!!

(I can see the wheels turning in Tim and Felicia s heads already!!!!)

 Thanks for the congrat s!!

 jstaddwtrHey everyone;
I called today to confirm the park is still open, and unfortunately it is not.
Westmoreland state park is closed this weekend. Michael from WildWildQwest asked me to call, he had heard on the news that many state parks would be closed.
Call with your reservation number and you will receive a full refund.
I was looking forward to meeting everyone, new and old camping friends.
We may go to PA this weekend, but our decision is not made yet.

 jstaddwtrTim,

We got a call from Va. State Parks yesterday with the bad news.

We will be at [link=http://www.nvrpa.org/pohickcamp.html]Pohick Bay Park[/link].  It is just a little closer to DC.  We camped there last moth and found it to be a very nice park.  Lots of sites available.  Electric on every site, but not water.  Community water source, so bring a container to keep your tank filled if you decide to join us.

I-95 south to Lorton exit.  Then only about 10  minutes east (follow the signs).

 TJWSANTAFETJWSANTAFE,

We got the a call from the park also.. They stated they had lots of damage. Would be closed at lease a month or better. So plans have change again. Not sure what yet, but seems like every time I try to link up with some club members it falls apart somehow. Happy Camping !!!

 jstaddwtrWe are pretty disappointed[:(]

Our friends who were to come have a tree still resting on their house...so they have been " camping"  for days!!!![:o][:o]

We looked around messages and decided to " barge"   (sorta), in on the folks going to Hickory Run State Park in Pennsylvania this week.  We are determined to put some names with some faces!!!!!![:D][:D][:D]  " Hersheygirl"  made the mistake of wondering if anyone who was going to Westmoreland would now join them.....so with the help of " Tracy" .....we decided to take the plunge!![:D]

jstaddwtrHey everybody - I m finally hooked to a computer via a generator. Chesterfield County took a direct hit from Isabel...and I haven t had power or water since Thursday.  My house is okay - but the dead end road I live on is a mess. It took 4 men with chainsaws almost 3 hours Friday just to make a narrow vehicle " path"  - and it is still untouched and probably will be like that at least another week. I don t miss the power much (we are using Earls generator), but not having water is a pain.

I talked to Westmoreland yesterday, and they lost all of the boat dock, had heavy flood damage to the River Retreat Conference Center, and had 6 cabins destroyed by trees.  Of all our parks, they were probably hit the hardest - though Pocahontas has to be a close second. Here, they say we may not get power until next week. I ve been here over 20 years - and I have never seen our lake as high or as swift as it was last weekend.

Cancelling this trip was especially disappointing for Earl and I - we were considering it our " honeymoon"  - since we were not able to go anywhere last weekend because of Isabel.  The wedding on the 13th went wonderful - except it rained, and we had to have it inside the church.

Ever get the feeling of a gray cloud over your head?  I m there...believe me!

Louise, first we would like to wish you and Earl a BIG congratulations on your wedding. We re sorry to hear about all of the sad news from the hurricane and about the damage that was left behind.

We hope to see you and many of our PUT friends at a campground in the near future. I guess the dangling cans and the  Don t come a knockin, if this campers a Rockin  sign will have to wait to we see you again! [;)]

 Good luck!
