Title: TX - Mustang Island SP
Post by: Redwolf on Sep 28, 2003, 07:05 PM
This park is located on the Texas coast, near Port Aransas.

It s not the best park in Texas.  The  campground  is literally a huge parking lot near the shore, with everyone parked next to each other.  No shade, except for a few small trees and a covered picnic table.   Restrooms are located at the end of the parking lot, and are elevated...toilets upstairs, showers below.  (All park buildings are built this way, to protect them from surges during hurricanes).

There are no fire pits at the campground, but you are permitted to have fires on the shore.

Nearby attractions is the Lighthouse Lakes Trails, a kayaking trail set up by the state in 2000.   The fishing in the area is said to be good, too.

We went there for the kayaking and fishing, and enjoyed that quite a lot.

Pictures and more commentary are available on our website.
