Title: Bar Harbor Maine
Post by: marin on Sep 28, 2003, 07:05 PM
DH and I are going to Maine in Sept. We would like to stay in Bar Harbor, on the ocean. Does anyone have any first hand experience with the following campgrounds:

 Bar Harbor KOA, formerly Barcadia
 Lamoine St Park
 Patten Pond
 Mainayr campground

Other ideas or suggestions appreciated. It s just the  2 of us. Thanks...[:)]

marinWe always stay in Blackwoods CG in Acadia NP.  No hookups but a nice campground.[:)]  Bar Harbor is only a few miles away.

marinWe stayed at Barcadia, now KOA, last September during Labor Day week.  The campground was relatively quiet, I guess everyone s back to school at that time.  Not many popups and tent campers but a fair amount of 5th wheels and bigger campers, which are located in a different area.  We stayed at site 311, which was right on the water.  A little tough to get into (our camper is pretty long) but once we were set up we thought it was a terrific location.  Bathrooms were very clean and staff was very nice.  They have a nice store with your basic necessities too.  I would absolutely go back.   We paid $45 or so a nite, which I guess isn t the cheapest, but if you sign up for a KOA membership you get a discount - ours paid for itself with that one trip.   I also liked that it was right at the tip of Bar Harbor, so if you need something you only have a short ride up to the main strip which has grocery stores, walmart, etc.
 have fun!

marinWow, is $45 a night for a camp site really expensive or is it just us?

We went to Bar Harbor a few years ago, before we had a PU, and rented a two bedroom cottage for $60 a night.
