Title: Best breakfast for last camp day?
Post by: SuZone on Sep 28, 2003, 07:05 PM
What is the best (and easliest) breakfast to make for the last day of camping, you know, when it s time to " un-pop"  and get getting!

SuZoneI USED to make a regular pancake and egg-type breakfast the last day, but now it s toast, english muffins or cereal in disposable bowls.  I HATE doing dishes AND packing everything away that morning.  If we re near a good bakery or farm market, we ll pick up some local baked goods for that morning s breakfast (to make it more special).

SuZoneDepends on the time.  If we have a long way to go (4+ hours) cereal, coffee, juice.
Short way (less that 3 hours) and we are in the mood big breakfast, and deal with the dishes.  If the weather looks doubtful, forget about breakfast, hit the golden arches later.

My variation on cereal, is Grape Nuts (1/4 cup), yogurt with fruit, and some kind of fresh fruit all mixed together.  Looks awful but tastes good.

May we never have to pop down in the rain.

SuZoneYup, depends on what " last day"  means: last day at *that* location, or last day before heading home.  If the next stop is on the road, it s quick breakfast time, or like Bob said, even an " Egg McMorris" . [;)] If the next stop is home, I ll fix a nice breakfast to stick to our ribs, and deal with the dirty cast iron pans at home. (Give thanks for Glad Trash Bags.)

SuZoneIf we need an early start or the weather looks bad I offer the kids cold cereal then stop at a drive through.  If we are not in a hurry I will cook a low mess breakfast like pancakes.  Mix the batter in a plastic bag (so I can toss it) and give the griddle a good wipe.

 SuZoneHi Sue,

Breakfast before we pack up on the last day is usually cereal or instant oatmeal, and toast, something quick and simple and easy to cleanup. Depending on travel time back home, we ll either stop for lunch, or drive straight home, unpack the camper, garage it, shower, then head out to dinner.

SuZoneWE like to try to get an early start, so we make sure that the coffee maker is already to go, and then after we get a few miles (give or take 50 or so) we stop and have a nice breakfast somewhere.     If we re not far from home we settle for something quick and easy, like breakfast bars or something (alright, maybe donuts or sweet rolls) and then have brunch at home.

SuZoneIf it s pack-up and head home day, it s usually cereal, or something else that doesn t require cooking. We re usually bummed out that we re going home so we don t feel like eating much anyway.
