Considering dry conditions, no wind, and a 70mph speed limit, how fast do you go?
TG1956Wasn t there a poll just recently on this?
Oh well, I was going to look anyway, DH never goes over 60 [:@] seems like it takes forever to get somewhere with the PU.[:@]
TG1956Generally speaking, I tend to go 5 MPH OVER the posted speed limit, as long as everything in the PU and TV are in tip top shape. Our speed limits are 65 so that generally puts me at 70. I m not sure I would go 75 if the speed limit was 70. Those trailer tires, wheels and bearings are spinning pretty fast to keep up!
TG1956We tend to do around 60-65mph at the most. When we re on vacation, we re on vacation and there s no rush to get anywhere at any particular time. We wouldn t put ourselves or anyone else in danger just to make time. We stay to the right and keep moving, but we don t let anyone push us. It helps that we live in an area where the speed limits on the interstates are usually no more than 65mph.
TG1956We " lock and load" the cruise control at 65 and don t go faster regardless of the speed limit. And of course we slow down when it gets windy.

TG1956Speed limit in California is 65, but it is specifically limited to 55 for autos towing trailers. DH usually goes around 60, but no more than 65. Of course, that was with the old TV that had an engine basically consisting of 2 hamsters on an exercise wheel. Who knows how fast he ll go with his new Expedition with a 5.4L, SOHC V-8! (ruh, ruh, ruh!) [8D]
TG1956I have the heavy foot im our family and tend to do 5miles over the posted limit.
It was fun driving in OR and WA and Canada this summer where we could go the posted speed and not deal with that 55 with trailer stuff. DH let s me know when I get free wheeling. [:o][:o]
TG1956DH does the driving usually, and he sets the cruise control at 65 and just rolls along. It seems like when you try to go faster than that, you always end up having to slow down for someone else in your way, or traffic patterns change, so you really don t get there any faster. We have decided that we don t have the " I want to be first" syndrome that you see so often where people have to speed up and get around you and then when you get to the light they are only one car ahead of you anyway. But, at least they are first in line. LOL

TG1956I don t have the PU anymore, but voted for 70mph as that was the max I was willing to pull it, anything over that and it turned into an ugly swaying monstor. I ve had the new Hybrid as high as 75mph, but didn t feel real comfortable with that speed. So I ll probably keep myself limited to 70mph, and for the most part try to keep it at or under 65mph...
I d rather arrive alive! [;)]
TG1956Got to thinking about this and decided that the question needed clarification, i.e. Are we heaed TO[:D] or FROM[:@] the campgrounds[;)]?

Besides, at 80 plus, it saves on tires and you will never have to replace them because the trailer just " floats" back there [;)]
Pheeeeewwwww, my kind of man [8D][;)]
TG1956I try not to pull it it hurts my back... the truck how ever pulls it about 60-65 mph.... as long as the weather and traffic are ok..
TG1956We had one of these going! http://www.popuptimes.com/members/tm.asp?m=39433&p=1&tmode=1

See how you are! Rubbing that Expedition in!
I keep telling Holly: Next Spring, dear. Please... Until we get sway control, no greater then 60 mph. After that, 65.
TG1956Very rarely do I get on 70 MPH interstates with the camper, over 65 I get a shear in windy areas and with the Bantam, I get a bow effect when being passed by vehicles that are braver or have more power...
TG1956Read the poll, and couldn t find 55mph the max speed in California for auto s pulling a trailer[&:]
Then I read your first post, with the Hypothetical 70 mph limit.
As it would take us a drive of over 4 hours to get out of California, and with 4 young ones, I cannot see any reason for us to leave CA to go camping, so this poll doesn t apply to law abiding Californians[;)]
