Yes, we go usually about twice a year. The kids love it, I just hate having to chase those darn snipes all over the place. Last year we used bacon grease to attract the snipes. there were about 30 of them at one point..
We had a large net so we were able to catch about 10 of them at one shot. Of course once they started climbing the trees it was hard to get to them.
Snipes are great in a dutch oven , and the little ones can be cooked in the little pie irons with brown sugar they taste great..
I will have to ask Birol if they have Snipes in Canada I thought they were on here in the U.S. ?
When in Cub Scouts many, many years ago in San Francisco, they did a snipe hunt. Looking back it's funny now remembering what they told us.

We plan on taking Birol snipe hunting at the 2004 Eastern Rally. :D
When I was a kid, we had a yearly snipe hunt in the swamp at the end of our road. It seemed like every year there would be a new kid in the neighborhood that had never heard of or been in a snipe hunt, so we always made sure to include that person. Afterwards we always had a bonfire and discussed our strategy and method of hunting the elusive snipe, and gave a prize to the person who stayed in the woods longest in pursuit. Funny how it seemed like the award almost always went to the new kids.

As a teenager, this was the main dating activity. Our snipes seem to be located only in dark, out-of-the-way areas. You had to sit in the car, very close together, keep the windows rolled up (I assume to keep the snipes out), and wait. Although it never happened to me, I heard rumors that other things usually got in the way of successful snipe hunts. :D
As a teen, I belonged to a group called "Civil Air Patrol" (CAP) -- we used to have snipe hunts on every campout for the newbies. I never went on any, only helped organize. I voted to go with birol -- this will be a blast:D

That's the best part of snipe hunting. 5 hours latter when they come back with no snipe and we have ours already cleaned, cooked and consumed they are always a bit suspicious. :confused:
But look they do exist! Go check it out in the bird book or Internet. :D

Your not raining on my parade, I know they are real. PA has a hunting season for them. We know they are real Birol is the one that thinks they are made up.
Tlhdoc after you go hunting them in PA what do you do with them. What I mean is that they are so small that it would take a lot of them to make a mess. If anyone doesn't know what I'm saying by using the word "mess" than just ask and I'll explain.

Yes you need a lot of them, and it is easier to skin them than pluck them. :p

Ah yes, a dating ritual. Here in Florida, we have to dodge the gators to get at the snipe. ;) But when you catch one, it makes it well worth the trip. The last person I took snipe hunting loved it so much we ended up getting married.:) Now we and teaching the grandyounguns how to snipe hunt.:D
