Title: Prodigy
Post by: jstaddwtr on Nov 05, 2003, 08:14 PM
We are about to purchase a Prodigy controller and have read all of the prior threads in the past about how great they are....after all the miles we put on this year we really wished we were smart enough to have made this purchase sooner!

Anybody have any suggestions of what we should watchout for?  We searched the net and found some on e-bay and through various stores with prices ranging from 96 plus shipping to 159 plus shipping and more...much more.

Have there been a model change I should be aware of?  Any thoughts would be of assistance.  Thanking you'all ahead of time!!

No model change that I am aware of, but then I haven't had a *single* reason to go looking for a new brake controller since I installed our Prodigy. ;) I think RV Wholesalers had a great deal on the Prodigy a while back, but if you can find it for 96 bucks.. buy it! Don't pay more than you have to, it's the same thing no matter who sells it.

Also, buy a wiring harness for your specific tow rig if one is available/needed. Call Tekonsha and ask them. Example: I think a special harness for Ford Explorers makes installation as simple as connecting two plugs together, and costs about $8. Hard to beat that kind of simplicity of installation, eh?

Got mine plus the connector at RJay's Trailer & Hot Rod Parts. Great price and service. Have a site:

Give them a look see!

If there is a custom connector for your TV, get it.  Make your life easy.

I don't know of any changes in the Prodigy and I second getting the cable for your tow vehicle.  I got mine at the local RV dealer and all I had to do was mount the bracket that holds the Prodigy and then plug the cable into the TV and the Prodigy.  VERY SIMPLE to install. :)

http://www.rvwholesalers.com (//%22http://www.rvwholesalers.com%22) has them for $98 (everyday price), not sure what the shipping charges are (if any)...

We LOVE our Prodigy!  We bought ours from //www.etrailer.com.  Not sure of the price, but if we bought it there, I am sure we got a good deal!  We were switching the one Prodigy between the two tow vehicles (bought an extra mount) but this became tiresome.  Ended up buying another Prodigy.  We love them.  Simply the best brake controller out there.

Must be about $6 shipping. Got mine from there and the grand total was $104. Another thing to consider for those with two tow vehicles is a second "pocket mount" to easily switch the controller from one vehicle to another.
