Title: Lake Norman State Park Campground
Post by: JonesFamilyJayco on Nov 09, 2003, 09:30 PM
Just returned from a great weekend of November camping!  This was the first chance my son & I had to go camping since September.  I highly recommed this park to anyone with a pop-up.  The sites have a long, paved driveway to park the camper in.  Each site has a picknick table on a level, gravel pad & a second pad (for tent, but we used it for my son to play on).  The firepits were nice & they will sell you all the wood you can use for $2.00 per night.  The bathhouse has recently been renovated & has hot showers.  We went on the lake shore trail & had a great time.  Also, we rode our bicycles around the gently rolling campground road.

The campground is north of Charlotte,N.C., & just a short, well marked drive off of I-77.  The fee is $12.00 per night.  No hook-ups.  They are open year-round.

Sounds like a good campground.  Do they take reservations?

Unfortunately, none of the NC state parks take a reservation.  They are all first come, first serve.  We have not had a problem finding several sites to choose from, but I have not stayed during a holiday.

I would hate to drive that far and not be able to get a site.  It does sound like a really nice park though.  Thanks for the information. :)

Group camping is available by reservation at many of the NC parks.  Most group sites are for 25 people or more.  It's $1 a day with an $8 minimum.  To check out the parks and their policies go to:  http://www.ncsparks.net (//%22http://www.ncsparks.net%22)  and choose the park that you want to camp.   Checks out their rules and regulations for each park.  Don't forget that NC also has some National Forests that allow camping.  Check those on the national parks sites.
