According to the Reservation Center, Westmoreland State Park will re-open to the public next week, November 20th. I understand limited camping will be available for the two weekends remaining on the camping season.

Don't expect the park to look anything like it did before the Hurricane. I talked to the office manager a couple of weeks ago, and she said it's like going to work in a strange place every day.  There are open fields where forests used to be, and the beach looks totally different.  Three overnight cabins were destroyed, and others are still being repaired.  The boat dock won't be rebuilt until sometime next year, and 25 feet of the fishing pier is gone.

On the bright side, it should be real easy to find sharks teeth and artifacts on the beach for the next couple of years!

Earl and I are planning an early spring trip there next year...and hope we won't be too disappointed in what was once one of our favorite state parks!

Wow...thanks for the update Louise. Westmoreland was a beautiful park. I can't imagine the damage that has been done.  Guess we'll have to make a day trip there to check it out again before we make any reservations.

That's so sad. We are so fortunate with our state parks here.

Thanks for the information update stateparkgirl. I never did see it before the storm.
Sept. would of been my first trip there. Well, at least no one got hurt there, right? Will be taking a ride on the blue ridge on Thanksgiving day and was told to be prepared for a big change. I understand they opened again about four weeks ago.
