Gary, what a beauty!  This looks like a great dog for outdoor life (and I hope also a wonderful camping companion)  Our dog (a shaggy Black Lab mix) is also named Shadow and just seeing his wonderful loving, merry face everyday  is  a heart-lifting experience.  No one can be down in the dumps for long  with "someone" like a Shadow  around!

Hiya, Shadow! (reaches down and gives him a rub behind the ears) That's a good boy. Now, you take care of Gary and keep him out of trouble, ok?

Congrats on the new buddy. We just picked up a new addition as well. After a year ana half of missing our previous pet, it was time. Kinda changes things around the house, eh? hehehehehe...

Ab Diver-- who'd forgotten what it was like to have "a puppy in the house".

Quote from: birolCongrats !  It is beautiful ! How big will it get ?
Birol, I expect hime to get ~80 lbs. or so. Right now he looks about 35 or 40 lbs. But his feet are HUGE. He's probably 20 inches tall, and body ~ 3 feet long.

I think we are in for a name change too. Shadow is a great name for a dog, one that never leaves your side. but it just doesn't fit this dog. Shadow is quiet almost stealth like, And this dog makes you very aware that he is in the room. So his new name for this point forward.... Shall be ROWDY!

Wish I could see pictures! Still having trouble in that area here...

Anyway, welcome to the board, Shadow/Rowdy!

I guess I should mention (not to scare you or anything, just so you'll be ready!) that many Retrievers don't outgrow their hyper, destructive ways until the age of 2 1/2 to 3 years.  Being in the house and part of the family helps a lot, and consistency with training.  Once they hit that 3 year mark, they are one of the best breeds you can own.
I've been in rescue for nine years now, and I see a lot of Labs dumped at shelters during their adolescent years, most of which I can't save.  Because of this, I always warn people who adopt a Lab or Lab mix (or Dalmation, or German Shepherd) about this so they are prepared.  Getting a "Kong" toy and filling it with peanut butter, dog treats, etc, can really help to keep a puppy occupied so it doesn't turn to other things, like chewing through doors, walls, etc.  ;)
The name "Rowdy" fits a Labrador puppy!

Having been around dogs a lot, We are well aware of the settling down period. Marcia used to work at the local Humane Society here. Now she is home full time (disabled) and Rowdy will be a companion for her. Along with or other Dog. He fetches well, sits, walks beside you, (with or without) a leash. You know he's a puppy, but he will be a good dog. I have to get about a 50 lb bag of training treats though......

Lol!
I'm glad you already knew and are experienced.  That means he's going to be a great companion, well behaved camper someday!

That's one of the reason's we couldn't pass on this dog, Here is a purebred, all the papers (BTW he was born 7/10), has all his shots, been to the vet for a checkup on 11/15. Then all of a sudden, They don't want him anymore. We have seen this all too often, Cute puppy (or kitty, or bunny)..... for awhile.... Then GET RID OF THAT DOG!

When we lost our Hound Dog, I knew it would take a while to get another, and we had been talking and looking....

Ohhhhhhh, so sweet when he's sleeping, farmer!  I know this one will be a wonderful companion for many years to come.  I really miss my little Taffi who passed away at age 18 this year.  She was a little Terrier-Poodle mix and full of love and fun until the last few months of her life when she was failing.  My children have very fond memories of her during their growing up years, too.  She didn't get to camp with us the last couple of years as I thought it best that she stay home with my S-I-L who loved to care for her.

(http://www.arveeclub.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=19&stc=1)As an owner of a "half Golden" I say...Congratulations and they are wonderful dogs!   The picture of Shadow/Rowdy (oh yeah, I remember the Rowdy days...although they're all "shadow" days...) is adorable.  There's just something "happy" about the face of a Golden!

The picture of Kolby is absolutely precious!  Brings back lots of puppy memories!  ;>   Our "Kobi" is 3 1/2 now.

I hope they both are terrific camping dogs!  Ours loves it..

Farmer, Can you e-mail that picture to me at TeriG1@cox.net please?  It won't let me post it as an attachment, lol - no one can see it!
Thanks!
