Compared to other on-line forums (not necessarily camping or trailer related) that you participate in, how would you rate the Arvee club?
Austin
I've checked out a few of the web sites that Dave posted on the "General" section, and I've got to say that I'm not to impressed with the other sites. There is one (I've seen AustinMN there! ;) ) that I do like, but I would never drop PUT. I haven't signed up with them. I wonder what kind of server they have, thier site is nice, nicer that it's free. PUT is still the best! :XMas
I also have dropped into a few other camping sites.
To me, PUT is the only one where people get close enough to each other to actually go camping with each other...without prodding from the board.
I'll stick with PUT.

One of, if not, the best! I have sampled most of the other camping boards and find them lacking when compared to PUT! And that's a compliment to Dave and the gang as well as all the members!
PUT Arvee board is the best! I check it daily & spend the most time here. I wish I had more to share as threads or replies, but I try to add what I think may be helpful or interesting.
I've checked out several boards with all aspects whether it be PU's, camping, or others and I have found the best and caring people here. There are a few I do tend to wonder about, but for the majority, everyone here cares. Some I have camped with and others, hopefully next year we'll get to meet.
Hopefully, DH will get a job and we'll be able to continue on here.
I think PUT shot themselfs in the foot when they went pay, They had the "market" on die hard pop up fans! I only visit every few days any more. I would like to see more put towards PUT the mag and growing it. Keep the site free and push the mag by adding more content! I love to read mags but After about 20 minutes I am done with it till the next issue.

I can't say I disagree with most of what you say. It was a hard decision, foot or head. Had the PUT board not gone pay they would have gone away entirely.
For the first couple of years, the site was free and did push the magazine. You would be surprised at how many people participated online, but did not subscribe. Dave has alway said that his primary business is the magazine.
All the details of the history are posted
HERE, including links to all the other boards we can find.
Po Up Times exists to promote the activity of pop up camping. A lot of people are taking bets if PUT will survive, when the bigger issue is will pop up camping in general survive? The market has been declining for a while; the question is how low can it go?
Hey Mod guy :) I did not make that post to provoke you into making a statement. I would LOVE to see PUT as a full blone mag like Trailer Life, Car and Driver, etc... Something I could take camping and sit back by the fire and read. Its kinda hard to take the computer and Internet camping ;) I have the most resepct for Dave and the PUT staff!
I appreciate the input

I just wanted you to know that I agreed with you. I did not feel you post was negative in any way.

Just a personal statement -- I subscribed to Camping Life for a fundraiser for my son's school, and found it to be the most useless magazine. True, there was always one review of a pop-up trailer, but that was the only thing in the whole magazine of use toa pop-up enthusiast. I get more out of the free magazine Camping World puts out. Though the PUT magazine is thin, I can use all of it for what I'm interested in.

I agree. Page-wise, PUT is thin, content-wise it offers as much as the thicker magazines. The difference is in the advertising content. The general rule of thumb for magazine publishers is to carry 60% ads and 40% content. We're about 70/30; just enough to make a slim profit every issue. I'd like it be twice as thick with a 50/50 ad-to-content ratio. I have a plan.
.....
I may be crazy but I enjoy looking at the ads in the mag as well as content :J

Good, because we're getting more!

If you are crazy, then I am too, because I like most of them as well. I see products that are new to me quite often.

I visited 3 or 4 other forums before paying for this one. I found irv2 and trailer life but didn't feel that there was much going on. I also read alt.rv.pop-up-trailers, it had some ok posts but it gets out of control sometimes with the nasty posters. Popup Explorer is a good site and I still visit there - read only. I'm happy with this place because I don't have to read 100's of threads to get what I'm looking for, and its mostly a tight group.
I just got here so I hope the "I'm leaving" and "board killer" threads don't get too ugly. I figure its the same with a lot of the forums on the internet - people come and go for a variety of reasons.

Well said, Dan.
This is the only board I read every day. I really enjoy the magazine too. I would like to see more newcomers join the ranks, to keep us on our toes a little more, but other than that, I like the cozy feel here.
I'm about 50/50 between PUT and PUX. It seems like PUX has much more posting traffic but coverage on both boards of all subjects seems to be about the same.
I don't think there is any more comraderie on one board vs another. In our club there are about 7 people on PUT and another 8 or 9 on PUX. In talking with our various club members at our regular campouts no one really cares which board you are on.
I have visited the other boards (irv2/pux/popupportal) and the content and posts there are similar to those here at PUT. If I wanted to just get info on pop up campers and camping, any of those sites would probably be fine for my needs.
But what makes PUT outstanding and far superior is that this is more than just a message board. It's a place where I can virtually hang with and communicate with all of my friends--you know, the axe-murdering kind that you can only make here on the Internet. ;) If it weren't for PUT, I wouldn't have the commraderie and camping buddies that I do in NNC and SCC. There's always a rally going on somewhere and someone to camp with if you wnat some company!
And as far as frequency of posts goes, we've slowed down a bit, but there's always someone posting over in our 2 camping club forums. Feel free to join us anytime-you don't have to be from Northern or Southern California. Or even in your right mind; in fact, it's probably better if you aren't! Just ask Kelly. :)

ROFLMAO ~ I almost skipped over this one! Good thing I read all the way to the end!!
Yep ~ definitely helps if you aren't in your right mind when you hang out with those left coasters! :J

or
Kelly (who only posts at PUT & who very rarely reads PUX & nevers goes any place else!)
