Do you prefer to camp with a group or with just your family?
We don't really have much opportunity to camp with "groups". We do enjoy it when we camp with some popup friends of ours. We end up spending the day on our own, but seem to always get together in the evenings. So it might be fun to camp with a larger group if it functioned like that. But I like to camp to get away from my day to day work which includes talking to a LOT of people... not that I don't like people!!! I just need some down time sometimes.
This is a tough one....
Love the peace and quiet of just the 2 of us (we don't get the often).
A friend or 2 is nice company
A group is nice, but can also get to be hectic with so many people and so many conversations going on, it gets to be hard to keep up!
I voted for just the family because I think like deniski in that I would like to do the group dinner/campfire thing, but be on our own the rest of the time.

I second that...
Occasionally with a group is okay....but for me, more than anything I love just getting away with my DH. The more deserted the campground, the better I like it. This DC metro area is just so crowded and congested that it's nice to get away alone and have peace and quiet.
There are times when groups are fun too though...

We almost always camp with someone from our camping group, SCCampers, either through a formal rally or a "mini-rally" which means that someone is going camping and posts about it and then next thing you know, there are 4 or 5 families going too! It works that way for our Northern brethren, Nick-Neff-Cough too, and our groups even have huge rallies together, like this June at Pismo Beach. We're both pretty close-knit groups, even if some of us have only "met" here on the boards, and we have all made some great friends.
I really prefer to camp with our groups. There may or may not be activiiites planned during the day, but it is up to each family as to whether they want to participate or do their own thing. We usually have a communal breakfast Saturday morning and a potluck dinner Saturday evening, which is nice since you only have to prepare one dish for each meal, rather than two whole meals for your family. Also, there are so many kids in our groups that they have made some wonderful camping friends and keep each other occupied. DH and I do occasionally camp without our SCC buddies, but it always seems a bit lonely.

NOT FAIR, I wanted to check both boxes!
I guess that should have been an option. :compumad:
Although all of our camping trips so far have been with groups, I'd vote "Sometimes with a group". As DS gets a little older, we going to venture out to more destinations farther away from home & will need more flexibility than a group setting can offer.
thats a tough question. I just love to camp. but I think if I had to choose I would pick with a group. the kids don't tend to get bored as easy. if you forgot "ketchup" some else has it. you have good laughs and conversations

That is how I feel. :)
I think groups are fun! I also like the quality time when there's just one other couple camping.
