I am going to bid on it, looks good, unless I am told not to bid on it here :)

Oh yeah, I try to snipe, so don't think I won't bid, it will come in the last 10 seconds or so :)
This one looks nice! Starcraft campers are very solidly built. I have an 84 that still looks like new!
Do you know the weight? Can you tow it ok? If so, I'd say you may have found "the One".
The older they get the lighter they are :) Windstar has a 3,500 Lbs tow limit, and only a few heavy current ones are that heavy, I am gambling that it is a 2,000 Lbs one :)
I am not getting any answers to my questions though ....... I won't bid if they don't bother to answer, and one side of the PU is not shown at all at the pictures ! Just realized that. And no dinette ???

And it's only about a 9 hour drive from you! I'm sure I can get my parents to let you stop at their home in CT overnight. They are in the NW corner of Ct so it's pretty much on your way.
Thanks :) You are so nice, but it went up to 560 already ! It will go close to 1K ..... Sigh ...

What are you talking about... it's still 430! And remember you were going to go 730 for the apache! Bid as high as you are willing to pay!! Keep in mind you have less travel expense!!! GET ITTTTTTTT!!!
37 mins to go!!!
Still watching????
It's only at 430... must have had a bid retraction.
B... remember how you felt when you let the other one slip through your fingers!
Look how neat and tidy their yard and driveway are. Looks like they take care of their stuff.
B, it looks like the dinette table is made down into a bed, check the pic of the bunk end, you can see the rail for the table and the cushions down below. Even if it didn't have a dinette, you could always get one of those cheap plastic round tables and set it in there. Bid, I think our friends are right, this may be the one!

B, I have this mental image of people all over the place standing up right where they are doing the dance of Joy right along with you!! You've waited long enough, and this PU ws inexpensive enough to be able to spen a little extra to personalize it the way you want.

Congrats, Birol! It looks like her owners took very good care of her. Enjoy your new baby!
Sorry, gang, it isnt really worth sharing, it is just a little something between Birol and me--free advice from a "wise old friend", nothing at all in it interesting to anyone else.
Wow! We are going to see pics and get descriptions and questions!! This will bring new life to the board for at least the next 2 years while we discuss Birol's new Treasure and think of each and every detail, mod, fault, feature we MUST know about in all its glory!! :) :S :W
Birol, I am sorry Babette is not interested in going with you, but then you must not nag her about it--I am sure you wont--just go and enjoy camping as others on the board do when they have a spouse not into camping. Perhaps she will change her mind, but if she doesnt, then it can be one of those things you have to enjoy without her but with the children. And while you-all are gone, she can relax and catch her breath.
Birol... since you will most likely be traveling I90 to get there and back, why not make your first night with your new pu an actual camping trip? Sturbridge Village is right on the way, near the intersection of I90 and I84. It's a great area to visit with lots of history.
I found this cg just 10 mins from Old Sturbridge Village

Youch I pulled my back out while dancing!!!
I got so caught up in all the excitement that I never got around to looking at the e-bay pics until just now. Birol, it looks in really good shape and I think if it is as good in real life as in the pictures, you got a real bargain. So long as there is nothing major wrong, the small ones can either be tolerated or fixed inexpensively. Looks like it had good care.
Sure wish I had our '68 Skamper back!! :(
Do you have a hitch? Or do you have to get that first?
Be sure to find out from the owner what size hitch ball you need! ;) Oh yeah, all kinds of advice, already. :D
Excellent idea, I was going to ask about places to stay and stuff too ! You beat me to it ! I have no idea how soon I will be able to get the PU though I need temporary plates or something to drive it probably ! too much stuff to sort of ijn such a short time !I want to get it on Monday :):):)

I have a hitch but I installed myself and the bolts/nuts at the end (Towards toe front) are not installed as there are no holes in the frame ! Gotta fix that quick !
Good thing I have 4 wire electrical connection already !!! That is the stop ligths and turn signals and the night lights right ?
Quote from: angelsmom10Do you have a hitch? Or do you have to get that first?
Ask about the tire conditon and bearings. If the tires are old, I suggest asking the seller to get some new ones put them on for you and repack the bearings. You can pay him for the added expense when you get there. Remember to also check/replace the spare.
Being a dealer, maybe he has temp dealer plates he can hook you up with.
The wiring in the old ones are 4 pin... usually. If you need adapter, they are only around $6-10.
The box does look like 10'. We have a 12' box. Ours had a king bunk end and a queen. Yours looks like it has either 2 queens or 2 fulls. Otherwise the floorplan looks to be the same as our 84 Constelllation 24 with the exception that our fridge is to the left of where your icebox is and we have a storage cabinet there.
I missed all the excitement as it was happening but catching up now has been a real thrill. Hey Buddy!!!!!!!!! We could not be happier!
Now we need to hear all about it!!!!! Every detail..... We are Sooooooo happy for you!
You got yourself a classic Birol! Congratulations!!!!! :D
Did you all see that there are almost 2500 hits on that thing on eBay! I'll bet the owner has no idea what's going on!
WooHoo...way to go Birol
From the pictures, it appears to be the Starmaster-8 floor plan (Same as my "Old Barge") and same thing my dad used to have, same year too! Matter of fact, I'd freak out if it turns out the his old trailer, as my parents lived their entire lives in Mass, which is where this trailer is. However, my fathers had hard tops on the bunk ends.
That one appears to have a rebuilt galley, as the original should have swung up and stand taller than the side rails. That's not a big deal though, it otherwise looks the same as the original galley.
Let me know if you need a copy of the owners manual, I believe I've still got the one for the "Old Barge" buried around here somewhere, or the new owner of that trailer has it. If so I can borrow it and copy it for ya!

Hey, you-all, just take a good look at THIS THREAD (and the other one related to it) and all the enthusiastic and delighted remarks made by everyone about Birol's new popup. We are all just as thrilled as HE is!--OH FINALLY, FINALLY HE GOT ONE! :-() :-() :-()
:W OK--I bet I'm not the only one thinking: this is one of the things that makes the PUT board so special and so unique. Once more in unison:
:S YOU MADE SOMETHING REALLY GREAT WHEN YOU CREATED THIS PLACE, DAVE!!:S
Birol, another nice campground (read this as dirt cheap - $12 per night) right there in Sturbridge Mass is Wells State Park, excellent campground. I'd recommend any site #26 through #32 (I'm rather partical to site #29 as it's huge and a pull through)...
Cliff, would you know if it is a 8' or a 10' model ? Thanks for offering the manual for it, I will ask Starcraft for it, they are usually good with it, that will save you some effort, if they fail I will have to bribe you though :) I am still smiling :) Hoping that I hear from the seller tomorrow ..... nothing today .. weird .
The box is 10'

Thanks Cliff ! it is just like I imagined ! It is what we need ! 10' box with double dinettes !!!!!! I am dying to go and get it !!! I will call the seller tomorrow and arange the whole thing ! Monday I will be tearing down I-90 ! keep away form that road next week ! :)
Congratulations Birol!
It's been a long time coming, but your patience paid off!
I might suggest you bring some spare $$$ just in case the tires are in bad shape. Wheel bearings are only about $10 for a pair of them, and not too hard to replace either. I'd check both out before hauling it back to Canada. A long haul on rotted tires or dry bearings will likely leave you on the side of the road cursing in Turkish at somebody.
I think Andrea had a good idea, spend the night at their house or somewhere close (Wells SP) and get Lee to help you check out the bearings etc...
If nothing else, make sure those bearings are packed with grease before towing all the way back!!!
Very Nice Buy, Birol...
Those old Starcrafts were very simple and easy to maintain. Looks like you found a jewel.
Happy camping!! :)
It's 11:08 and I just got in from a friends's house.... I haven't even gotten half way through the posts since I was here last, this afternoon, and I'm already crying. Real and true tears... crying. I'm so GLAD for B.... Not just happy, but glad. I'm happy he found something, but I'm GLAD that he's really excited. I'm not just happy that he's gotten congrats posts, but I'm GLAD that he's got a reason to be getting those post and to be glad for himself.
Sometimes people ask, "What makes you happy?" And the response is invariably something like "My children" or "My family" or "My accomplishments at work". I think that sometimes that's all together too much and not enough at the same time. I think it means you want everyone to think "Ok.... he/she is a good mother/provider/employee/etc." But sometimes I think it's just wonderful for people to be happy... no GLAD about something. "I'm glad I don't have to watch so-and-so's kid today.... I'm glad I get to watch the game straight through today... I'm glad it's not Sunday and I don't have to get all dressed up for church". Those are some of the the Glad tidings that don't seem like a whole lot, but when you let the build-up of everyday stress go, they amount to a whole lot of beans and you get really excited by them. Small things can bring big excitement and fun!
So, on that note.... "I'm glad that the tadpole in our pond grew to be a frog smaller than the goldfish in the pond.... I'm glad the teacher didn't send home a note about how I was late by 1 day with grading the Sunshine math, I'm REALLY glad that none of our kids caught the nasty, boogery-nose cold that my SIL's kids had when they visited last week.... and most of all, I"M GLAD THAT BIROL HAS A PU TO CALL HIS OWN, so now he can feel the excitement that we all feel, every time the sunbreaks through the clouds, every time a weekend nears, every time that nature calls "come camping"!
Oh, another thought. My Dad's 1968 had 1 7/8" hitch ball, but mine had a 2" hitch ball. Ask the seller what size it takes and make sure you have the right one before going to get the trailer.
I don't know you Birol, but I watched you agonize over the Apache decision and I'm just thrilled that you got a really good deal on this Starcraft!!! Congratulations and many happy camping trips to come!!
I just read Cindy's post, and it brought tears to my eyes. It was a powerful post, C, and your feelings are shared by me and many others. I was teary eyed when this camper deal was going down, frantically refreshing pages to keep up with both the board and the Ebay deal. Later, NightOwl and I were talking (actually we were talking when this was happening too) and it was overwhelming to both of us when we thought about the level of caring and compassion that is shown by the people on this board when someone needs support. Thanks, Cindy, for putting it into words for us!

:S :# BEAUTIFULLY DONE, CINDY! As T said, you've expressed it exactly! :# :S
Well said, ladies!
Birol, One thing to consider is you will probably need a weight distribution hitch on that Windstar - I mean even just to bring it home. Since the van sits low anyway, the trailor weight without the WDH makes ours sag until the hitch is only about 2 inches off the ground! The WDH distributes the load and it rides fine. I don't know how that particular PU will affect it, but it might be something to think about since it would be a harrowing trip home if you hit the ground every time you go over uneven ground or a bump!
There are other options out there too - I'm just familiar with the WDH. Also, on the newer Starcrafts, if you use a WDH it's recommended to take the WDH bars off before reversing with the trailor as the frame can bend otherwise. My guess is the older ones are tougher, but you might check into that.
I also wonder is that manufacturer allows wdh for that model? That would also be a question that needs to be asked to Starcraft for that particular model. If wdh is not recommended then another solution would have to be the equilizer hitch system or airlift system. Just my .02
I doubt WDH can be used with this unit.
Hopefully, for the trip home, an empty trailer and empty van will mean smooth sailing. But I agree with others that the tires and bearings should be checked before long distance.
Larry
:D OH MY GOSH!!!!!!
I miss one day on here an LOOK WHAT HAPPENS!!!! I'm with Cindy and the other softies...It brought tears to my eyes!!! Birol we're all sooooooo excited for you!!! This is just fantastic news!!! Can't wait to see pictures of your ear to ear grin with that PU!!!!!
Drive safely!!!!!!..oh my gosh, I FEEL like the dancing banana right now!!! :>
Quote from: PopupSgtI also wonder is that manufacturer allows wdh for that model? That would also be a question that needs to be asked to Starcraft for that particular model. If wdh is not recommended then another solution would have to be the equilizer hitch system or airlift system. Just my .02
Starcraft doesn't allow a WDH for our model either - but a Starcraft employee said the danger is in backing up with the bars on it. He said if anything happened while driving forward, it wouldn't be caused from the WDH and we could just pull the bars off so they wouldn't null the warranty just because they were there.
I agree it would just be simpler to use something else just in case, but I just plain love my WDH and wouldn't give it up for anything! ;)
I am hoping that this won't require a WDH .... I have no money for such luxuries :):):) or aire suspension stuff :) All I want to do is hitch up drive, I should ask them what is the GVWR of the trailer ....
Birol Congratulations. I can't wait to see your new PU at the rally.
I agree with the others about the tires and wheel bearings. If the rear end of the Windstar sags too much you could try Timbren rubber springs. The attach with one bolt to the frame of the Windstar where the rubber stops are now. I used a set of them on my 1999 Windstar. :)
I forgot to add the link for the springs. They are easy to install. My DH did it in about 30 minutes.
