Title: I got the 'Dream Job' !!!!
Post by: Gone-Camping on May 05, 2004, 09:25 PM
I may have found a cure for my financial distress, it's called a new job! I'm going to be a warranty writer, and assist the parts manager when no warranty work is present. The best part about this is, it's going to be for an RV dealer!!! :D

They also agreed to pay me what I asked for, which should ease the problem I'm currently in, I start a week from Monday. I don't see how this could get any better, as I spend some part of nearly every weekend poking around one RV dealer or another, I just can't get away from them. Now I'll be making RV's my living...Whooooo-Hoooooo!!!!

This also means I should be able to get in some camping this summer too!!! :-():-():-():-():-():-()

:# :S And I assume the new job means you will pretty soon  know even  more  useful stuff about all kinds of RV's and will have an even more encyclopedic  knowledge of camping stuff to post here.  SO WE ALL WIN!  :# :S

"I don't see how this could get any better"

Can your PUT magazine subscription and your camping trips be considered tax deductions as business/educational expenses? :D

Congrats. It's great to be doing something you love.
Diane

Congrats on the job.... DH applied for and got a job at Raper RV here locally (new location), however, there were so many this and that.  He had to drive 2 1/2 hrs (be there by 8am SHARP!) to main location for training, pay himself for a drug test and they'd reimburse 1/2 the amount, work 5 days a week and close at least 1 time during the week and 1 of the days had to be a Saturday.  Pay was what he's getting at Dick's.  He decided to drop it since it cut out too much camping (if we decided to camp), the drive was farther then Dicks (so it would cost more travel time and gas).  It just wasn't a good situation.

Glad is better then his was.

It just keeps getting better! One of the personal references I used was Bob Zagami, editor of RV-News magazine. He emailed me tonight to say that Fred Snyder had called him and they had a long talk. He also indicated that he gave me a big thumbs-up to my new boss!

This will be where I'll be working...

I think I'll sneak back into the bathroom and pinch myself again!!!! :yikes:

Well, I used to work for Bob Zagami back in the late 1980's, and I've stayed in contact with him over the years. We exchange email often, weekly and sometimes several per day. While we are professionaly, financially and socially worlds apart, we've got a rather strong friendship otherwise! The fact that he's editor of a national RV print publication really helped I think!

Congrats on the new job.  You must be very excited and very happy.  The dream job for me would be a kind of consumer reports person on all types of campers.  I would be given about  2 different trailers each month to go camping in and when I return, I would give a review of the performance, problems, convenience and so on as I "test" them :D .

CONGRATS ON THE JOB!!
I noticed on the web site that your stealership is carrying the forest river pop ups.  Let me know if you have a lot of warranty claims on these things.  I know it says quality through and through but I don't know about that.  I'm just glad I got such a good deal on mine or I would be real pissed right now.  Sorry, just needed to vent some more :p

Even if going to the dark side, the least you can do is emblazon a PUT bumper sticker to that trailer.  :Z  :J  :!

I'm already halfway there with the Hybrid, but there is one sticker on my new trailer, and it's a PUT sticker (kind of sad considering I'm a senior moderator over at one of the competitors sites). I'll put theirs on it too, if they ever send me a free one that is!!! ;)

Cliff, you start today ? Will you have access to PUT while working ? I sure hope so, it would be horrible to start a new job and go through PUT withdrawals :)

Birol, you would definitely have trouble when you get a job.

Nope, start next Monday. Not sure if they have internet or not, but I don't have it during the day anyway, so I won't miss anything if they don't have Internet or don't allow surfing (which the latter of the two is more than likely).

This is going to be interesting, I'll get to deal with all the hostile customers that have warranty issues. Having been on the receiving end for years, hopefully I'll be better at handling customers than some of these warranty people out there! Of course, I can see it right now, I'll be able to promise all kinds of things, but have no control over the service dept or the dealership (my worst case scenario).... :yikes:
