Title: "How Stuff Works" questions
Post by: angelsmom10 on May 14, 2004, 08:02 AM
I can remember our DD's asking "how does this work" and we used to refer them to first the encyclopedia (remember those) or in their young teens, to the internet.  I came across this site that seems to be a good place to start.

http://www.howstuffworks.com/ (//%22http://www.howstuffworks.com/%22)

I have not done any searches to know the accuracy.

This is great.  Back when my kids were young, in the late 60's early 70's, we actually had an encyclopedia for children called How stuff Works, and it was put out by Child Craft a division of World Book.   It was great, back then there were no tech secrets, but lots of stuff on how candy canes got stripes, where ice cream came from, what made your car go, etc.   How things change when you aren't looking.

I've been going to that site for years. They explain how almost everything works from diesel locomotives to atomic bombs.

I too have been known about this site for at least a couple of years now. It's pretty interesting really!
