Title: Cicada Camping.....
Post by: CampNfan on May 14, 2004, 08:05 PM
You better plan on it if you are going to be camping in Va. They are here and there are plenty of them. They are everywhere! I was riding my Motorcycle today and one nailed me or should I say I nailed him all over my shirt......felt like someone shot me. They are clumsy when they fly. They can't see and they run into things. Kind of funny when they land on someone unexpectedly. Their shells are all over my yard and hundreds of them at the foot of trees. You can hear them buzzing in the trees too. :yikes:

We went camping in Missouri one time when there were a ton of them.  Ick!  I do NOT like bugs slamming into me!  June Bugs, Crickets, and Locusts can all die out...

This is interesting, they were talking about it on the news tonight too. The map they showed had them all over Virginia, except our little corner of the state! We get a few of them every year, but haven't seen the big numbers here yet!

Last year at the RJ Ranch (2003 Eastern Rally) they were bad and this year they will be worse.  I haven't heard any here yet.
