Post by: Wild Wild Qwest on Aug 24, 2004, 04:52 PM
Does anyone have a good ghost story to share, or links to ghost stories for an upcoming camping trip with our relatives...

Thanks!

Not a story, but a Snipe Hunt is always good!

I just did a search on campfire ghost stories in google.

Our church would go camping in the NC mountians every year and our preacher would read the best campfire stories.  They were called "Jack Tales"  and were based on old stories pass down for generations in the southern appalachian mountians.

I found two books at both amazon.com and barnesandnoble.com with the jack tales.  One was simply "Jack Tales" and the other "Grandfather Tales".  They are by the same author an both shold be good.

Thanks for reminding me of these great little stories. I plan on getting a copy of my own to read to my children.

Just an FYI...Richard Chase, the gentleman who collected the "Jack Tales" for publication spent quite a bit of time roaming through the Appalachian Mountains collecting the Jack Tales. He spoke with folks whose families had passed the tales down through word of mouth for generations. He even spent some time in my part of southwestern Virginia and my parents became acquainted with him. Once the book was published, he gave them an autographed copy. It's around the house somewhere--guess I should make an effort to find it.
