Post by: dingopups on Apr 13, 2005, 01:08 PM
Is there a standard tongue height for a popup?

Depends on the tire size of the camper.  My Pop-up has 13" so my Viking book tells me to have the ball at 15" above the ground.

Newer Colemans/ Fleetwoods are 17" to the top of the ball.

I like doing my own measuring, if for no other reason than for me to understand it.

Pull the trailer onto as level and flat surface as possible. Measure from the bottom of the frame to the ground under the front and the rear of the unit. When these two measurements agree, measure from the top of the coupler to the ground and this would be your hitch height.

You may wish to conside how much the tow vehicle will squat due to the trailer's tongue weight, especailly if you do not have a weight distributing hitch. That might make a couple of inches difference.

If I am not mistaken, it should be in your manual on the trailer.
