You can try Ferenbaugh CG just outside of Corning. We stayed there for the last two years while attending the Finger Lakes Wine Festival at Watkins Glen.

The picture at the top of their webpage is misleading. The field is where some of the larger rigs stay.

Although the cg is really quite nice- located on a hill side with nice sites- they are extremely wet and muddy if there has been the slightest rain.

We liked how close it was to Corning Glass and Watkins Glen. But the mud got to be too much last year, with 5 days of steady rain and downpours from storms. Maybe we just stayed there at the wrong time, but the ground always seems moist there, regardless- even when we stayed two years ago.

We would try Watkins Glen state park next time.

We just stayed at Sampson State Park on Seneca Lake. We had a recomendation from someone on this board I think. We enjoyed it.

Sampson has electric sites and a few "prime" sites which I think have all hook ups. There is a overflow part (loop 6) of the park that is open field but the regular part of the campground has shaded sites. There is a Naval / Airforce museum in the park itself. This land housed a naval and later air force training base. The museum is currenlty run by veterans who were trained at the base so they had a lot of information and stories. The beach was okay the playground next to the beach was great for kids under 12. We didn't venture from the park so don't know too much about what is around. It's wine country so I know there are tours available.  Reservations are probably a good idea. If you want to be close to the beach I'd say loop 3.
