Title: Anyone heard of a difference between a Canadian and American tent trailer
Post by: station71 on Jul 31, 2005, 04:30 PM
Looking to buy a 2005 fleetwood valor and am willing to travel to the states to pick it up (Coming from calgary, Alberta, canada). Will save about $4000.00. I contacted a canadian dealer who asked me if the trailer from the states is CSA (canadian standards association)certified. I honestly didn't realize that tent trailers have to be CSA approved. Is this canadian dealer trying to pull the wool over my eyes or is this true.

Anyone ever brought a trailer over the border. Did you have any problems

Cheers

Alastair

You better look into the IMPORT laws. There have been quite a few discussions over the years on varoius forums as to importing an RV either new or used into Canada. There are more issues than CSA certification.

I don't have any experience with the import rules, so I'm not qualified to comment on that aspect of it, but I can tell you that the CSA "upfit" is not all that big a deal. It's a few minor modification, but it's apparently something the government north of the border wants done to all units. The Coachmen's we sell here all have the CSA upfit as an option.

hmmm. I wonder if the dealership I'm buying the trailer at in PA would be able to do the retrofit. Otherwise I'm sure I could get it done in Canada before registering it
