Title: Cover for pop up
Post by: punisher on Aug 29, 2005, 12:07 PM

I am looking for a cover for our popup.  I thought I saw one advertised that also covers up the hitch part also.  Does any one know of a manufacturer or a web site that i could find them.   I have a Jayco Jay Series 1207   2005 model year

I thought you weren't supposed to put covers on PUs because of possible damage to the roof...?

Covers trap moisture between the cover and the roof -- the, add the extreme "sauna" effect, and you have the potential to seriously damage plastic/abs/etc.

If you need to cover it, consider a portable "carport" type cover that will not touch the camper and will allow air to pass through it, etc.

My Coleman manual specifically says not to cover the trailer.

We covered our Coleman PopUp with a "Breathable" cover for 12 years and NEVER had a problem with the roof.

You also have an ABS roof that is know to fail, more so where it is hot.

Fleetwood sells covers for their PUs.  A breathable cover is fine to put on a metal roof trailer.:)

I use a heavy duty popy tarp that I got from Northern Tools. Covered all three of my pop-ups. Never had a problem.

We also covered our popup with a breathable cover purchased from camping world. ($99.00 for the 12 to 14 foot).  Never had a problem. We bought one a little large so it covered the hitch and all. We used bungee cords to secure it.

Here is a previous post for covers. I have one and it's great and breathable. I bought the large one to cover the entire pop up from hitch to back bumper. I do not have an ABS roof, so I can't offer anything on that issue.

Anyone interested in buying a cover for your PU check out:

http://autosupplyusa.com/rvcampercovers.html

16-18 foot cover (largest one) $52.95 + $7.37 shipping
(smaller ones are cheaper)

I know there are "issues"  with covering PU's but this is the cover that is "breathable" and water resistant.

Someone posted this info (I think on this forum) but I can't find their post to give them the credit for the find....but thanks.... and I wanted to pass along the info because this is the best price I have seen so far
