Well, now that I have your attention, we will be in the area of Zion NP in January with no hookups, most likely on BLM land. It will be our first serious boondocking, not just dry camping at a CG. We will use our portapotti for the first time, but what do you do to dispose of it? When I used to tent in the olden days, we just dug a shallow pit. I guess this would work. Any other ideas?

You could take the bottom half with you when you venture out into civilization and dump it in a gas station bathroom or into another established CGs and dump it there.

Yup, I agree with dumping at a restroom in a gas station or rest area. On BLM land the are promoting the Leave No Trace program, and leaving it there would pollute the land.

It would be better to just "go" in the wild.  The blue stuff is not good to just dump on the ground.  Many interstate rest area have dump stations or if worse comes to worse just take it home and dump it.:)

Here is a list of dump stations along the freeways. Maybe that will help you out. If the CG does not have a dumpstation we bring it home, we have an outside sewer access with water nearby so it makes it easy for us.

He didn't say he would be in Zion, he said he would be in the area.  Suggesting they might be on BLM land says he does not expect to camp in the park. :book:

Nope, not planning on camping in the park, but who knows?  The park is open all year, with the Watchman campground being the only one open all year and it has electric.  Both the Zion Canyon and Kolob Canyon visitors centers are open year round, with shorter hours in the off season.  This is according to the NPS web site.  But as I said, we will most likely be staying in a BLM primitive CG, or just straight boondocking in Dixie National Forest somewhere.

I can't wait to hear how that goes. I went to ZION NP when I was a kid (we chased the dinosaurs around :p ). I'll never forget it. It is one of the most magnificent places in my memory.
