Mojave Narrows is a San Bernadino Regional Park located in Victorville, Ca. We just kind of stumbled on it one day while going to check out a KOA CG in Victorville. The park itself is nice, there are Horses for rent, Camel rides, fishing, huge grass areas, Walking trails, a big playground with water features that kids can play in, it is still under construction but will open this spring. The CG has a drycamp area, a tent camp area, and then an RV section. There is also a dump station. The RV section has full hookup's including water, electric, and sewer. The sites are huge IMHO, if I had to guess I'd say 30' x 50' in most cases. The restrooms are ok, they are not Hilton quality but they have flush toilets, sinks, and showers. The nightly fee at this time of year was $22.00. If you want to fish they have an extra $5.00 charge. They also charge $2.00 per dog. Still a great deal as far as I'm concerned. Now for the one and only CON of the place....It is close to train tracks. And the trains really like to use these tracks....alot. At first we thought jeez! Will they ever stop? After the first night it started to get funny. You could hear one of us say, Here comes another Train!!! So as long as you are a good deep sleeper, it should be fine. Yep those are the main east west tracks and I have been by there on the train a number of times as a kid. Picture an 8 year old trying to stay awake until midnite to see the Mojave river 'cause that meant he was in the Mojave desert and that meant indians and John Wayne etc, etc :) I have hiked, camped, and flown gliders in this area over the years.
But on a different note - I seem to recall visiting a friend a number of years ago and being told of the flash flooding that took place at this place. The aftermath made it loook pretty bad. Is there any sign that they have taken steps to mitigate this?

If there was flooding I sure couldn't tell. As far as noise mitigation, they do have large trees and bushes that separate the CG from the tracks.
Brian, with that many trains running you could play "The Train Beer Game" every time you all hear a train, everyone drinks a beer, the winner is the person not passed out on the ground. The winner gets to stagger to his or her trailer and sleep in a warm bed instead of passed out on a cold ground!! This could be interesting!!!!

There is one thing we can do to drown the train noise out..... Give Dee some Tequila.
We go there annualy with our YMCA Princesses group, and camp in the group area. They are essentially large grass fields, with a row of large cottonwoods. Other then the distance to, and scarcity of the restrooms, we think it is a cool place to camp. Great place for the kids to fly kites, fish, horseback ride, ride bikes.
The trains are pretty noisey, even as far away as the group sites are. I think they intentionally honk their horns after 10:00 pm!

Update on this park they have added a really neat water play area for the little and big kids alike. Our grandkids really love to go there and play.....

Trains? Wow that's a PRO in my book! That line probably averages 80-100 trains a day.
