Title: Towing Power!
Post by: watson5 on Jun 26, 2006, 04:14 PM
We have gave some thought recently about pulling our 06 Fleetwood Pegasus from Montana to Tennessee. Do any of you folks have a K&N air intake system installed? Are they relly worth it in the long run? How much better is gas mileage?
We pull ours with a 99 Ford Expedtion 5.4L
Gonna be $$$! :usflag:

Not a noticeable difference in mileage.  Plus you have to be careful when you clean and oil the K & N's so that you don't put too much oil on because it can cause problems on certain vehicles.  I'd do some more research first.

I tow a Roo 21SS with a '97F-150 w/ the 4.6L. It was a real dog until I got the Edge Products Evolution tuner.
I still won't win any races when hooked up to the trailer, but it made a world of difference.
Real easy to work with.

Worth looking into, IMHO.

I've been using a K&N Filter in my '98 F-150 for the last 6 years, but to honest I really can't tell a difference. To expand on The Vikings comments. Over oiling will/can result in your Mass Airflow Sensor crapping out. The oil will create a film over the wire which will start sending false signals to the computer. If you do decide to go the K&N route I would keep your existing filter and use it during the downtime your K&N is being cleaned, drying out and re-oiled. The amount of dirt the filter traps is amazing. As mentioned before, check out //www.f150online.com as there's been numerous threads on the K&N filter.
