I plan to collect a clothing article from each area that I camp. Maybe a t-shirt or hat. I've read about some of you collecting the State Quaters from the states they visit, or stickers for that state etc. I've gotten a shirt from Pine Mountain Ga (purchased in a pharmacy there), and Butts Mill Farm (made for the in-law's reunion by family members) from out last trip. See my webshots for pics of them! Let us know what you collect!
I like to collect pins to put on my camping hat and patches to sew on a sweat shirt and sometimes we buy tee shirts.........
Memories
Leave nothing but foot prints, take nothing except memories!! (well, that a few pictures maybe...)
We don't collect from each place we camp. However, whenever we vacation, I get a hat. This will probably become something I do when on a camping vacation also. But to just get something to get something, probably not.
We take a photo. The last thing we do before leaving a camp site is to take a picture of my two kids in front of the site number. This was originally done to remember our first site number to make a future reservation and not meant to be a tradition. However, this has turned into a traditional picture upon departure. I am always reminded by my kids to snap that last photo. I am now hopping to one day in the future put all of these pictues together.
I collect patches. I have hundreds of patches at this point, enough to prompt me to start programming a computer database to track them. I had been sewing them on a heavy shirt (which is now almost completely covered) but now am starting to use a signal flag. When I can't get a patch, I will often get a hat.
PJay collects cookbooks. Most of her cookbooks, she has never cooked a thing out of; but having a cookbook of foods from Appalacia or costal Maine or the Southwest makes all kinds of things available.
One of my daughters collects period or regional clothing, usually a hat or bonnet.
We stop at most park signs (state or national parks, mostly) and pose everyone with the sign for a photo. We have dozens of those as well.
Austin (no, PJay has never sewn a patch for me, even though she is a professional seamstress)
we collect toothpick holders from the places we vacation
We collect shot glasses every place we go. Not just camping, but from other trips, restraunts, bars, hotels, etc.
We collect large rocks from each stop to build a BBQ at home, and jars of preserves and jam! :D
Oh wait, that was a movie.... ;)
Actually, the kids will sometimes get a sweatshirt, t-shirt, or hat, but not at every stop.
We collect dirt... ;)
(accidentally, of course)
DW and I try to get a magnets from the places we visit.
We usually purchase a shot glass for my step-son as he collects them. I however, take a small rock; not necessarily from the campground but from a place like Mt. Rushmore or Crazy Horse, etc. I want to do a rock border to my flower bed in front of the house. We also have the map of the states from Camping World and stick on the states that we have been to. Now that I'm smaller, I have noticed that I'm collecting t-shirts...maybe that will be a new collectin for me.

Same here. We slap them on the frige.
WE collect bumper stickers and decals of campgrounds and places we have been. Many of these are displayed on the inside of the door on our Niagara....

I do the same.
I keep a journal/sketch pad in the pu. At the end of every trip I write down the site #, who camped with us and other activities that we did. I usually sketch something from the trip too! It is great to look back on and I'm so glad I started it on our first trip!
Happy Trails!
we collect magnets from campgrounds and spoons from states we visit...or really cool touristy areas
I am 66 years old. If I had known, as a young adult, all the places I would visit in my lifetime (from Vienna to Hong Kong, Oaxaca to Istanbul, San Antonio to Quebec, etc., etc.) I would have collected something......rocks, branches, sand, dirt,...whatever.... Our goal is to sit in our rocking chairs and enjoy our memories when we are too old to go away for for the weekend........But we're already having a hard time remembering the places we've been!!

Me too. Since my Boy Scout days. I have several shoe boxes full. Haven't figured out how to display them however. Maybe I'll scan or photograph them and display them on my website. A virtual patch collection, so to speak.
I collect patches when I can find them. One of these days I will start adding them to the quilt I did start. I'm always bummed when I can't find a patch.

We've decided on campground/city stickers and love it, memory of each trip however, we get irked when we can't get a sticker!
Oh he77, I just try to collect all the trash and throw it in the dumpster.
