Title: Broken Door Handle...again.
Post by: SBurris28127 on Sep 04, 2006, 08:59 PM
Okay, I'm on my second door handle and I have only camped in my Pop Up twice. What does that tell you about the quality??

I will yet again contact the warrently department at my camper sales/service center but I am not excited about the prospects. I have purchased a standard screen door handle at Lowe's to use for the time being but the "gizmo" that retracts when you push the handle inward is not the same width as the original door handle so it does not close as securely as I would like.

Has anyone had a continual problem like this??

We replaced the door handle once on our 2000 Bayside (made by Fleetwood).  It's gone strong ever since.  Our trailer has been over 25,000 miles and been set up hundreds of times in 26 different states.  We even lived out of it for about six weeks between houses.  That handle has done fine.

I think you have had some poor luck, not poor quality.

The door handles on the Fleetwood trailers are junk.  They break all of the time.  Make Fleetwood supply you with a new one IF it is under warranty.  If you are not covered then look for a different one at the hardware store.:(

I replaced our old Niagara's door handle with a "standard home screen door" handle from Home Depot.  Took a very slight modification of the mounting plate (don't remember what I had to do, but took a few seconds), but we loved it afterwards and I continually wondered why I never did it earlier.

The same happened to my '96 Coleman/Fleetwood "Yukon" so no doubt this has been an ongoing problem. One thing I did'nt like (and still don't) about buying some of these parts from a dealer is that THEY ARE SO EXPENSIVE; and some of these parts are simply not rocket science. I'm all for supporting the local dealer to an extent but having something marked-up 1,000%, by whomever, plus still being junk, is just too much. I'd replace it with a Lowe's/Home Depot version in a skinny minute!

Our Fleetwood Victory model's door handle is really difficult to open. I'm going to be replacing ours soon. We bought our Victory this summer and I've not been at all impressed with its quality overall.
