Title: replacement mattress
Post by: caranoel on Oct 08, 2006, 10:40 AM
Just picked up a 99 Clipper this week. We love it.

I think I am going to replace the mattress because the previous owner had a dog.

Where do I go to replace it?  currently there is a 4-in thick foam pad.  Do I need to go to an RV supply store?  Can I get the foam from a craft store?  Are there better options for us?

Thanks!

You can do a Google search for the 4" foam (or whatever thickness you want)  mattress material and get all kinds of options - all the way from custom made to just the plain foam material. It's sort of how much do you want to pay.

We have a manufacturer of the stuff just up the road from us but you have to buy in a large volume to do business with them. Then buying from a distributor or dealer you have to pay the long price; sorta got the little do-it-yourself guy over a barrel.

We did away with the foam mattress in our PU and there was nothing wrong with it.

We prefer an air mattress and that gives us more storage space when we pop down. We just leave the mattress, pillows and bedding all in place. We put on clean sheets before we pop-down an we are ready for our next camp-out. Just fill the mattress with air.

I bought a 2 inch memory foam topper for my bunk end for a better night sleep. then it dawned on me that i could of easily just of bought a 4 inch memory foam and replaced the whole mattress. If you buy the memory foam from overstock.com they have great prices and there prices are usually the same for any size.
