I have posted pictures to this thread so all of you can get a better idea of what the place looks like. Check the "webshots" at the bottom of this post.
Here is my email address: wolfsburgbob@sbcglobal.net
Thanks for being patient while I get more information out to you.
Way to go Bob. I have a 10ft Pu which is 21ft long open.
just to let you know that most 10ft PU, are 21ft long open and 12ft PU, are 25ft open. I think your biggest concern is going to be those HTT :D they can be very large. looks like 2007 is going to be filled with a lot of camping trips. almost one every month. Ya........ is it camping time yet !!!!!
Yep.....we're 25' opened.
ARE WE THERE YET???
Hi everyone,
It has already come up. Which site will I be in? Just to let you all know, I will be planning that after everyone replies back on their trailer length's! In addition to that, when I go to the campground to take pictures, I will bring a tape measure, map of the area, and a pencil, for notes. So be kind to your new wagonmaster and let him do this for all of us.
Ours is 32' long and 12' wide without the awning being out.
Oohh ... I'm glad Dave posted before me! That makes me more confident about saying that I'm 29' long and 8' wide without the awning out. Don't know how much to add for the awning -- maybe 6 feet?
Thanks Bob!
Thanks for all your hard effort...and patience, Bob!!
We are 27 feet long and 10 1/2 wide. :-) That ISN'T counting the awning.
Lisa
31' Long w/Ramp Down- 8'-6" wide + 8' for the awning
You can cancel Laura from your list. It looks like she may be moving to TX and not sure where she'll be then. Maybe someone else can enjoy this fun trip.
Our measurements are: 9' x 28' w/o awning.
I'm 12' ft X 31 ft w/o the awning. My HTT is about 21ft wide all together
Bob you are doing an awesome job and putting in alot of effort into making it fun for everyone...appreciate it :D
............................................ THANKS!!!!!................
I am so sad!!!!
Much to far for us and the allen Family this year.
:(
We would like to come. I appreciate the distance from Vail "Lakes".
Trailer: 18' closed... 18' open.
7' wide without awning, 17 with.
Two adults, 6 year old girl, 4 year old boy.
Jim
We're 25' long and 12' wide, (+ another 6' wide if the awning is open).
Hi everyone,
This has been great! I am enjoying this believe it or not. The responses from some of you have been excellent. Remember you can PM or email me. Already one cancellation but two new additions so our group total is now at 19! Who will be number 20?
Welcome our two new additions: Sue Hardee & JimQPublic.
You are both now on the list.

Hello everyone,
Well. we made there and back today. The frost out in the orchards was pretty bad! I hope that all the pictures come out so you get a better idea about where we will be for the Halloween rally in Oct. The train station in Fillmore is about 14 miles away from the campsite. I will be setting up the line up of sites when everyone has repiled back to me about there trailer length. No worries about the awnings. All the sites have plenty of room between them. Enjoy the pictures, they are listed under Far West on webshots.

Wayne,
The bathrooms up at the clubhouse are unisex! Just because you did not see a urinal :yikes: I am still trying to get a close up of the shower prices. I think it goes like this: .50 cents for 4 minutes; .75 for 5 min. up to a max of 15 quarters.

if you need more than 15 quarters in the shower then you need to be showering at home ... eh-eh eh-eh :yikes:
Quote from: oldmooseBob, were you able to reserve the meeting room? It would be great for our potlucks.Moose
No I did not reserve it when I made the reservation. When we there on Sunday, we went over the reservation with the person who was there. The other spots that are in Birch are taken by a club called California Campers. Since they called before I did they asked for the clubhouse. Now the way it was put to me is that the group that reserves first has first crack at it. They can only have it for a six hour shift. Their group has it on Saturday with no indication of whether they are in the morning, lunch or dinner! I am going to call on Tuesday and try to get the opposite of what they have and have them put it in writing.
The only problem I see with the clubhouse is for us to haul up the food and plates and drinks about 35 steps of stairs. Or we can just drive around the hill and park at the clubhouse parking lot. Maybe only some of us would want to take advantage of that but I will just the same, get a hold on it for a six hour window for sat. Another thought is that we team up with the other camping club and ask if we could share their time and in turn we would let them share our time. It's a win-win situation.
I will let you know what I find out. BTW, is your son comming? I don't think I have a response from him about his trailer length.
Actually he has no trailer. They have brought their tent and camped with us. Will they allow a tent on our site? If so that would free up a site.
Some of us have come in on Thursday. Would we need to make a separate reservation for the site you put us in?

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but no TENTS are allowed in any of the camping sites. I have already asked that question when we there this last weekend. But they do have an area on the lowest level of this campground for tents. It's really not to far away. There is a very small stream running right now beside the tenting area.
I will ask that question tomorrow. I would try to see if they would give the group rate since you would still be in the same spot the whole time. At that point in time, in Oct. I don't really see a problem for them to do that. But yes you would have to make a seperate reservation in the birch area. I will let you all know your site numbers by the 22nd of January!
Will they let someone put up a tent for the night then take it down by 10 in the morning......I forget where it was that we camped before and the CG had that rule......It's a pain but at least they would be together......? Just a thought.

that was Pismo. usually they will allow a small tent as long as an RV is in the site. I think Bob was going to speak with them again, Sometimes that is the "rule" but with a big group they may allow it.
our rig is 29' x 12'...with the awning out...probably anothere 6-7' wide
thanks for setting us up!

Here is today's latest update in regards to the questions above. I called again today and talked to my reservation lady ( Lynne ). Tents are not allowed anywhere except on the lowest level where it is designated for tents. The bad news that goes with this is that the weekend that we are there, a church group has reserved the entire tent area for their campout! :yikes:
Another question came up about wanting to come in a day early. As long as we have 5 or less who want to get a jump start on the weekend and want to get there a day early, no problem as long as the sites are available. Lynne can not forsee that far out and until it get's closer ( a couple of months before ) will they know but you can get the same group rate for that extra day! :D My advice is don't wait and let someone else jump in front of you. Wed. thru Fri. they are open till 10 pm. for reservations.
Now for a little good news. I reserved the clubhouse for Sat. 10/20/07 from 8am to 2 pm. so we can have it for either breakfast potluck or lunch. There is a thought running thru my head about this but I am going to get some input from the pros before I commit to something.
Please keep the questions coming and I will get back to all of you.
Bob, thanks for a great job. I'll tell my son he has to rent a rig orstay at our house and come down for they day.Moose

Bill, Your son's spot at the campground is his until the last day before I either turn it over to someone on the waiting list or he decides to stay at your place and come in for the day. If he gets a trailer or other rig, I just need to know what length it is going to be?
please add Shirley Kenney 2A to the wait list

Hi everyone,
I am going to put this out for response from all of you. I have a breakfast idea. Instead of the usual potluck for saturday morning at Santa Paula, Dee and I are entertaining the idea that we would put together a pancake breakfast for our group. It would be at the clubhouse on sat. 10/20/07. We have been tossing different options around and think this is a win-win breakfast. We will be serving cafeteria style so portions will be age appropriate. No one at the end of the line will go hungry. The breakfast will be pancakes, bacon and sausage's. Possibly muffins and OJ. There are at least 5 roadside fruit stands on the way to the campground on hwy 126. that look great for additional offerings that morning.
We are asking that a $5.00 per family to cover the cost of the food we will be buying. We know that you can't buy for yourself for that amount. So the whole family for $5 is a great deal. Let me know what you all think. After telling Dee the idea, she has already gone to costco, to price things out. With Dee helping me on the cooking and serving line and a few other helpers, we can do it. We need at least 95% of you to go along with this.
Also to let you all know The group rate for each night that you stay is $20.00. I will need to make a deposit for that at a future date. I will let you know when and where to send it in.

This sounds like a great idea......except for 2 things. 1. Bob's cooking? :yikes: and # 2. Why do I have the feeling my camp stove is involved in this?
Sounds great! I will volunteer Brandon to help you out with the cooking!! He is our breakfast maker here in our house....
BTW, Brandon and Logann are down camping at Rawhide Ranch (Bonsall, San Diego). They are staying in a teepee...and I am sure they are freeeZING! No heaters!

Sounds good to us............Just let us know when and where to send the $.....Or will it be added to the camping price?
We figure that the money for the breakfast would be collected at the door!

Hey, I know I didn't feel good yesterday, but if you said I agreed to breakfast I guess I did. What else did I agree to?
(Not to hijack anything, but I made it home in one piece -- by 10:00, no less! Unhooked, dumped at the dealer, home & unpacked by 11:00. Not too bad! Everything worked well, and I'm ready to take on bigger, better, and more hook-ups in Buellton!)
Bran and Logann made it home safely! Bran said it was about 30 degrees Friday night...that they froze!
BTW, they stayed at a ranch only about 5 miles from Guajome! I think the weather is too cold for chiggers....

Thanks Bob for all your hard work and effort on this rally. I would however like to suggest something to you, that would make your wagonmastering easier.
take your mouse and highlight this list, right click and hit copy,
go to page one and hit edit and delete the list one page one and instead "paste" this list in there . that way any changes to the list will be on the first page where it can be found right away.
woo hoo is it Oct yet
We are so excited!!! :-()

Hi Kim,
I am going out on a limb right now. Im going to say roughly 29 kids under the age of 14. I guess an actual count is needed for you to know if you have to place any additional orders. Bear in mind that I counted even the families on the waiting list who we might just get everyone together for Halloween. What I mean by that is that some on the list have express their desire to be willing to double up on the camp sites.
So as early as this is; Please, I need to know for Kim's peace of mind as well as mine, how many Kids under the age of 14 will be coming to this campout?

Thanks guys! I purchased enough for 48 kids. I'm not giving candy for trick-or-treating so I needed to know approx how many goody bags to make up.
Bob (Freedom 5) - I had an idea regarding this rally. I called the campground to see if there were any cancellations and of course, NO! What I did do though is being you hadn't put them on a waiting list, I did. They should notify either you or I when/if cancellations come up. I told them that we have 5 on the waiting list including 1 large motorhome. They may not be within the group but would be in Birch. I hope you don't mind that I did this.

we'll see if they call.. I have never had a campground call me, but since we have a group they may.

Hi Kim,
Thanks but I have the pulse on the campground. I called Lynne @ Far West today. We discussed the possibility of cancelations. There were none as of 4/17/07. She will add a note to our groups portfolio and if and when something comes up, she will give me a call.

Well, the process has started. We're getting rid of "stuff" and giving people the opportunity to get some great bargins. We have a box of Halloween items-bags, little foam cutouts and a couple of otheer items. I'm sure someone could use this for this camp out. Please let me know who would like it.
We expect to be at Camp Jospeho by mid July although we're still working on living accomodations. So far it's Moose Lodge.

Whoo-Hoo!! :-() I have been hoping and praying this would work out for you!!! How exciting!! Please keep us updated how things go.
I sure hope there's a Wal-Mart near the camp so you can fill up all that space you're going to have as you get rid of "stuff" ;)
PS How's Steve doing? He's still in our prayers.

Our son and family will not use a site. If they can come, they'll have to sleep with us so you've got a free'd up site.
The Halloween items are free. I'll ship them from work so no cost to anyone. Let me know who wants them.
Our son in Colorado is doing just great and is back to work full time. He will not do any radiation. They'll do an MRI every 6 months to check for any changes.
Moose Lodge is at camp. I anticipate we'll live in it a few weeks after we move there in July.

Great news about Steve and Camp Jospeho!!!!! We miss you guys. Hope to see you soon.

Hi all,
I have a small update to page one of the Halloween Rally for 07'. SURFcampers has moved into Old Moose's son site since they will not be able make it. I have moved them from the waiting list to the last site in Birch. (Kevin & Todd)
Something else came up. As I was reading the brochure for Far West, those of us with dogs that come with us camping, are an extra $1.00 a day. I will be needing a total dog count by the end of June.
The cost for camping there is $20.00 a nite. No checkin's past 10PM! All sites are "BACK IN's". No parking on the grass area's. All trailers need to have wood blocks under their Jacks and Stabilizers.
No chasing the peacocks! They roam the campground. I don't know about Doofus, if they will charge for him or not. I will ask next time.
Thanks

They didn't charge for Doofus last time but I had to sign an agreement that he wouldn't harass the Peacocks. :sombraro:

No I don't need to know right away. I mentioned that you have till the end of June. More than likely, I will be collecting deposit money at the end of July!
The wood block situation was in their brochure, I don't make up these things. No their turf is not the cat's meow! The next time I call for the few question that have popped up in the last 24 hours I will find out the truth.

New update 7/1/07 It is the first of July and I have made contact with Far West resort. Here are a few answers to the last questions posted.
You do not need wood blocks for your trailer's stabilers or sand pads.
The plastic ones will work just fine. There is only 20 sites still at this moment. Nobody has cancelled from the other club, thats there with us. We are not able to use the "Cedar" area due to being full already.
The response from most of you about your dogs has been really good. I will add the pets next to your name in a couple of days.
The question about Doofus the parrot is just like Wayne said in his post, just sign off on the bird promising he won't chase the peacocks!
The monies will be figured out here next week on how much each one will be sending to me so I can make the deposit The first week in August.
Final count on who is going will be 10/10/07. This also goes for anyone who might be waiting till the end to cancel because we never know what tomorrow will bring.
Lastly, I want to bring up the subject of rally shirts. I was trying to keep this quiet and work behind the scene, to ready a design for the rally. Since not being @ FF, I was out of the loop with what was discussed. Another volunter(Dieter) has been asked to want to help in this matter. I appreciate the help, this is awkward for him who may not be able to go since he is number 6 on the waiting list.
I am going to gather up the designs, old ones from past rallys and a couple of new ones and like the SCCamper flag, put it out for a vote.
Thanks for the update. 58Air (our friends/neighbors that are currently on the waiting list) will be sharing our campsite.
Sorry, I missed your post asking about dogs--we will be bringing Sadie, 58 Air will be bringing Daisy, and Darksiders will be bringing Darby.
We'll definitely be interested in the t-shirts, thanks again.

I'm confused?? will they allow 2 trailers on one site?
I hope so ...I want them to go :D
Quote from: Dee4jI'm confused?? will they allow 2 trailers on one site?

Yes they allow two trailers on the same asphalt pad. Not on the grass portion of the site. The drawback's are, both familes have to each pay for the same spot! Secondly, I need to figure out if they both can fit. I have the measurements of the sites tucked away in the rally folder. I need to know the lengths of both trailers to make sure this can happen. We can't have the first spot be blocking the entrance/exit road, up the hill.
I want everyone to come. So we need to dust off the old witches spell book and see if the other club could not come down with the flu or something so we can have our needed extra spaces!

Kevin,
Do not give up the trailer yet! All is not lost until the final count is in.
By the way, I finally made the SCCampers Halloween shirt poll on which to vote on. The group has 14 days, so please join in the voting.
Hello fellow SCCampers
I have been trying to call the campground but they are always busy. With what info I have at the moment, I think this is a good time for an update.
Need Money: Now would be a great time to start sending your money to me. Either PM or email me so I can send you my address unless you have one of Dee's contact list.
You have up till
August 8th, 2007to get the money to me.
Here is a break down of what you need to send.
Basicaly, if you are only going to be there for the 19 & 20 (that's 2 nights) and leave on the 21st; it's $40.00 for the 2 nites. If you are staying longer or coming in earlier get with me now so I know how to work that portion out. Dog's are a $1.00 extra for each day. Now they count each day so it's $3.00. Parrot's: no charge! The group rate is based on up to 4 people, 1 RV, and 1 vehicle per site. Children 3 and under are free. Extra vehicle is $3.00 per day. Guest's not staying the night is $3.00 per
car. Guest's staying the night are $3.00 per
person. There is a limit of 8 people per site.
Monies you will need for the train ride to the pumpkin patch are: Adults $15, youths 4-12 $8 and child 0-3 $6. Pumpkins start a #1.00 each but they the tiny palm size variety. probably will need extra money for the food booths out there. The train leaves the station five times each day on the weekend. Other than doing our own trick or treating with in our group, the train ride is the big thing that weekend. I would like everyone one to get in the holiday spirit by decorating their campsite's.
Lastly, the pancake breakfast on saturday morning will be $5.00 per family at the door! That's right, what a deal! Still could use a few more volunters to help with setup, cooking and clean up of the clubhouse.
Karen has voluntered to help with the breakfast. Any more helpers?
Can you pm Brian with your address and I'll send payment tomorrow? We will be arriving Thursday and leaving on Sunday with 2 dogs coming. What do we owe you?
I'm not sure when I'm arriving...I'm thinking Thurs since Kevin has a school commitments Fri nite..
Bob, it would be nice to know what an extra night costs. Maybe you could post that so everyone would know & you won't have to answer a ton of PMs. Also, it would be good to know if we have to contact the CG directly if we're coming in a day early.
I don't know what I'm doing yet in terms of coming in early, but I'm thinking about it -- just want to know how much time I have to decide.
Thanks.

Hi Laura,
Yes, here is the cost. We can have the group rate of $20 a nite for those folks wishing to come in earlier like thursday or stay later till monday. You still need to go thru me as far as early arrival. And I need to have the monies by august 8, 2007. Also a $1 a day for Jeb, unless you are bringing more than one dog.
Thank you in advance.

Question. WHo does Chris Hivley belong to? I don't have him listed on any past posts so I assume that he is someone's friend who is on the waiting list. I need to talk or email him for some info. Please pass this on to him.

He belongs with our family, he is Bryan's (our son-in law's) brother and is not on this board. his e-mail address is chively@charter.net. I have tried to e-mail him about the board and Halloween rally and keep him up-to-date. Thanks for all you do for us.

Hi Carol, 7/26/07
I called last nite to the campground and this is what they told me. You can have one extra day of group discount. This would be Thursday. For the fifth day you must call the campground directly and book that one day/night @ the regular rate $26.75. You can get a 10% discount for that 1 day. Here is their number 805-933-3200. I don't know why all of a sudden they can't let you have the group rate other than none of the other group is staying as long as you are. That is the only logic I see in that.
You are in site #8 in Alder The amount at the moment would be for four nights at $20.00 each nite and for your dog an additional $1.00 per day. So by the math it would be $84.00. Then you would have to call the campground yourself and book the fifth day @ the regular rate of $26.75 minus the discount of 10%.
I did send a regular email about this to you. This is to make sure you are informed.
Bob.
Bob thanks for the help and info.....good thing you replied here because I did not receive the personal email....?? Anyway the check is going out in the mail today.....for the $84.00 and we'll be calling the campground later..........
This is not a new thing for us has happen before.......Called" Senior Envy"....Hahaaaaaaaaa
Thanks again, Carol
Updates: 8/01/07
For the Halloween 07' Rally!
The checks are flowing in now. Remember you have 7 days from today to get your monies into me. I will then write check to the campground @ Far West resorts. Some updates have been made also today. Shirley K. will not be going! So Sorry she could not swing it. But a family (Chris Hively) has now moved up to her spot in birch.
I got a regular email today from a woman named Mirissa. She has been added to waiting list. They have 3 kids, a mom & dad and 1 dog. They have a popup trailer and would like to join us! So the question again goes out to the group. WHo would be willing to have another family share your spot? Both of you would have to pay the camping fee! I need to know asap because then these new folks on the waiting list can send in their monies on time!
I will be calling the campground on Friday for progress reports on cancelations from the other group!
Thank you all for making this rally run smoothly!

Remember the monies are due by August 8th! Are you coming in earlier than Friday or staying later.
QuoteDo we need to pay Freedom 5 now for the train ride?
No, the train ride is seperate and you are on your own. There are at least five different departures each day on the weekends. Also for the Saturday morning breakfast, We will be having a pancake breakfast. You pay at the door (up at the clubhouse), it's five dollars a family! Can't beat that price and better than Denny's because we know each other.
Ok Everyone who is going, Please double check the first page for your arrival and departures! Let me know if there are any changes to make.
Okay we're on for Friday night and Saturday night. $40 in the mail this afternoon.
I was just re-reading this thread when I noticed in post #29 that Bob mentioned that Califonria Campers will be at this cg the same weekend as this rally. If I'm not mistaken, this is the same group that at Flying Flags when we were there in February--you know the ones with the flags. :D I think some of our group went down and tried to be friendly with them, but were rebuffed in a snobby, elitist sort of way. Mean people suck! So I say, let's all bring our flags, fly them with pride, and show this other group what it means to be a real camping group! :Z ;) :!

mine went out today..Thanks to Dan...I have to get past my deal with filling out envelopes :eyecrazy:
I say, let's all go for a walk around the campground and when we come upon the "snooty group", we stop and let the kids play loud and ride their bikes through their campsites. I think they'll love that.

Kim,
If you notice, that there are more families with small kids in birch area. There is always a reason for what happens in this world. This is called "Pay Back" for not being "Open and Friendly" when we tried to talk to them at FF in Feb.
The group is the California Campers. They are senior citizens who will be sharing the birch site. They have the middle and out lying row. So to have a Hallwoeen parade would be just fine. We can make it for their "tea hour" right before our potluck dinner on Saturday.

I also noticed that all of the party animals from our group are in Alder. Maybe we should host a campfire in Birch one evening & invite the other club over for a few cool ones ... I could also teach Jed how to howl ... :Z

It might be nice to have the Bon Fire in the middle of Birch with the Fish Squad in fine form with lots of Cactus Coolers & loud poker being played. I bet they would appreciate the warm fire and would love to join us. Oh, wait a minute, seniors go to bed early, they probably won't be able to join us.

then they would call and complain..and we'd get kicked out.. :yikes:
Naaah, no worries. Before they go to bed, they'll take their hearing aids out and never hear a thing...:sombraro:

Remember, that their bedtime is right after what they call "supper", usually occuring at about 2:30-3:00 in the afternoon. They might actually be glad that our fireside activities wake them at 2 or 3 a.m. That's about what time these folks like to get up and be the first to go to the store for the morning paper, and get a good jump on whatever it is they're going to bitch and whine about that day! Besides we're helping them out in as much as the more you complain the longer God makes you live!!! Additionally, we may have to introduce "mischief night" (T.P. and shave cream anyone?)into our Halloween festivities, after we've brought the Halloween parade through their site a couple of dozen times.

I like the idea myself. Brings back memories.
On a side note....Do you guys need all three of those tow vehicles listed in your signature to tow that new Attitude? It must be way heavier than mine.

I can see it now, We are going to kick out the first night! Now on a brighter note I can deal on a case of T.P. I think that in decorating the campsites in birch, be as "creative" as you can be! Something to the effect of strobe lights and lots of thunder making items. I can bring my fog machine and will just need a really long hose. Maybe I could hook the machine up to a number of their sewer hoses. The look on their face when they see white smoke coming back up thru their toilets! Priceless! So yes the parade will be a special part of our activities.

He's continually running around on the computer keyboard. We often go to the computer and find our desktop completely different. I think that he likes to tromp on the "F" keys (which may change any number of things) because they make funny noises.

Actually, the Cherokee and PUP are for sale; the Jeep ragtop(my favorite toy) went this past week.
BTW........I was being "NICE" with the T.P. and shave cream. Not nice involves doorstep bags of flaming dog crap!
We are going to have to cancel our camping reservation. We plan on coming for the day though. The main problem is that we're living in our popup at camp and with a new structure, we can't get the popup out until later this year. This is a real bummer. We hope to be there and cook for the morning potluck and stay through dinner.

What time should we be there? We'll be happy to assist. Do we need to bring any stoves and griddles?
Let me know. We're off to NorCal for Paula's mom's "celebration" of her life. We'll be back late Sunday.

To all who are going to be here. It's the deadline for the checks today And I have all but 2! Job well done. New changes have been made to page one. Some are obivious some are subtle. I am waiting now on word from Campingcoxes to find out if she takes over site # 6 in Birch.
To Moose, we could certainly use your experience for the pancake breakfast. Im sure the Boy Scouts have done quite a few.
The thought was to be doing the breakfast fairly early. ( I know Dee, just prop open the eyelids and show up at the kitchen). The time we figured, we would start serving @ 8:30. About an hour and half of socializing and eating, then cleanup. The first train leaves @ 10am. I think with clean up and getting over to the train station (about 20 min's. away). We could be on the second train out @ 11:00 am. We will be able to get a group rate by leaving together on the same train out. You can come back on any of the return trains. There is no road to get there by your car. They have tri-tip for $6.00 a sandwhich. Hot dogs and drinks also available. This was last years's prices. I will post more info in the near future.
Sounds good to me!!!
Lisa

Yes there is a shaded area outside the clubhouse. Im sure depending on the weather, there will be some familes inside and some outside. Without consulting the campsite, Im sure Jed, being the well manner dog that he is would be fine at the clubhouse. After all he is family.

I have a call in to Kathleen at the train station. She should be returning my call on Wed. So hold off. If you are going to the Labor day rally you could bring it then. I will have the amounts figured out by tomorrow night, providing Kathleen calls me back.

We wont be at that campout so will need your address. Thanks I will wait for you to talk to the train people.
I forgot all about the train excursion, I need to talk to DH and see if we will be joining you guys. 2 adults & 3 kids = $54-10%=$49.60 - Is this the correct amount? What exactly is included in the $49.60 price? Does it include the bouncers, carousel and haunted maze or is it for the train ride itself?
BTW guys - Use Dee's phone/address list for Bob's address, it will save him alot of time E-mailing everyone. I've used it many times and think it's GREAT!!!!

Hi there.
Kathleen called me back today. She will be sending me the contract for our group. Hopefully it will get to me before we leave for our Labor day campout on Friday.
Here is the break down of the price's for people. Now the dollar amounts are with the 10% figured in.
Adults = $13.50 each.
Youths= $7.20 each The age requirement for youth is 4-12 years old.
Child = $5.40 each The age for child is 1 to 3 years old.
Infants under 1 are free because they will be on their parents lap.
I read that you wanted to know what this entailed. It's just the price to go on the train ride for 20 minutes from Fillmore to their private pumpkin patch and back. We will be going as one group and will be on the 11 am train going out. You can come back on any train ride; at any time, till 3:00 pm.
Food and drink are the usual prices for such out there. Don't know if the bounce house costs anything but will ask that very question. The prices for pumpkins out there start at $1.00 each but probably are the ones that fit into the palm of your hand. I will be bringing a brochure for all to see to labor day.

Hi all,
What I am going to do is post on page 1 the amounts each family needs to pay. That will take some of the questions on how much do I owe away.
It will be done in a little bit.
Man! I had your check written...was going to give it to you before we went to Knowlwoods...but decided to wait as I saw you climb into Brian's truck. The check is sitting in my purse. I will mail it soon...will wait to see if I did my adding right. I think I came up with $40.40?
Lisa
Just back in town after 23 days on the road with our Chalet. Can I just pay for the train when we get to the depot? Kristi hasn't been too keen on camping this year so I don't really want to pay for her seat if she decides not to come.
By the way, Melissa, Jason and I cooked and served approximately 1,000 sourdough pancakes last weekend. I would be happy to add an option of sourdough to your pancake breakfast. I'll even supply the top-secret toppings for the sourdough cakes gratis.
Having been to Fillmore numerous times with two small boys, I can tell you a thing or two about the train ride and pumpkin patch. It's fun, the ride is short- about a mile on the other side of Hwy 126 and you end up in a fenced field. Most days, the best seats are the open cars.
I don't recall being charged for the bounce house, but there was a long line with a limit of the number of kids in it at one time. There was a hay bale maze that was fun, but really hot. A really rickety merry go round that you needed tickets for. Don't take your vegetarian friends for lunch. They only serve tri-tip sandwiches, hot dogs, sodas and water. (Better food and beer! comes from the restaurant a block south of the ticket caboose.) One pumpkin under 5 pounds was included. I got charged a bit for some decorative gourds that were also laying around. Bring a bag to carry the loot home in. I ended up juggling a pair of pumpkins, gourds and my boys off the train and into the car. Shade was in short supply when I went- hay bales were everywhere to sit on. Sunscreen and hats will be needed. The dining tables and chairs were the only covered places.
The train came at around 45min-1hr intervals, and if you don't want to be stranded there for another hour, you need to be in line to exit before the train arrives. They weigh your pumpkin, take your money etc. prior to boarding.
Be sure to add the following detours if you're in Fillmore. The town itself has a nice small town feel to it. On the east end of the park where you board the train is a cute ice cream shop. Nice looking wine place I've never been in too. Further east, there are some wood burning model steam train rides on some saturday mornings. Back out on Hwy 126 (about 2 miles east), there is a fish hatchery on the south side of the road. Bring lots of quarters, and have fun feeding the fish. Lots of waterfowl live in view of the fishery on the west end. I think my kids end up having more fun here than with the trains.
If you're going to buy tickets, 'at the door' go early. Whatever event (Pumpkins and Thomas) I've been to, they were sold out for the day before noon. Pumpkins is a busy weekend for them, but it doesn't turn the town upside down like a Thomas event- 1-4 year olds and their parents- yikes! and I'm one of 'em.
Carl
I don't know if you still need help with the pancake breakfast or not??? Please let me know and I'd love to help cook, serve or clean up just let me know where I'm needed........Carol
Hey Bob,
Dean is able to make it for sure now, so can I still order one more adult ticket for the train ride? Let me know. I'll get a check mailed out to you once I hear back. Also, congrats on the sale of your pop-up. Can't wait to hear good news soon of a new trailer in your future. Talk to you soon.
We've stayed in Fillmore once...love the antique shops!!! And, of course, we found a yummy Mexican food restaurant..and Bran is already talking about hitting it while we are there!!

Okay, if it is the same restaurant we hit...it is not a fancy type of place. It wasn't a dive, but not "nice"---kind of bare, I think. But, the food was yummy!! It was recommended to us by a local at the time. It is not huge....it would not hold very many of us (if in same place).

Okay, Bran reminded me....we watched a Huel Howser (spelling is wrong)...and that is how we heard about going to Fillmore. He told us about the hatchery, train, and La Fondita--the restaurant. It is a total hole in the wall restaurant. We would all have to go in shifts of 7-10, seriously....unless it built out since the last 7 years. Maybe we could just get it to go....

We're up for Mexican food!!! I'll have some menudo with my torta and bean and cheese burrito. Yum Yum. Let the fireworks begin!!!!

Hey guys,
This is the low down on the two mexican resturants in Fillmore!
The first one is the older of the two. Its located @ 563 Ventura St. in Fillmore. They do not take reservations. They could seat 10 of us at one time. The train station says they have really good food. I believe this is the one that people are talking about. Maybe we could just take shifts in going there on Saturday night after the train ride. The name of the resturant is Vallarta. Prices range from $7.25 dinner combo to $10.99 combo specials.
The second place is located @ 1305 Ventura St. in Fillmore. This is the newer of the two. With a weeks advance notice, they could seat 40 people together.
They also don't do reservations. I would just have to call to plan it with the manager. The name of it is El Pescadora (sp?). He did not want to discuss prices.
We probably should vote for either potluck dinner or mexican resturant. It could come down to a compromise of just doing take out.

We would like to offer another option. If this is going to be dinner on Saturday night...we know a great Mexican Restaurant in Santa Paula not too far from the campground that has a big room upstairs that would most likely hold all of us, and we can do take out too..the food is great and I know the owner...prices are reasonable...Bob, what time is the train ride???

To all of you going:
I am going to put this out so we can see if this is doable!
Sat. morning is the pancake breakfast @ 8:00am.
Eating and socializing about an hour. Clean up half an hour!
Go to the train station for the 11 am departure time. All who are going must go at this time only. You can come back at any time. The trip out there is about 20 minutes. Do the scene, probably a couple of hours.
Now I am going to leave lunch to everyone on their own. We get back around 2:00 pm. At 2:30 we can do the SCCamper raffle! Be sure to bring items to raise money for the projector.
Do the craft project at 3:30 pm, lasting an hour and half. At five, do the trick or treating for the kids from trailer to trailer, about an hour. At roughly 6 pm. get ready to go to dinner @ the Mexican resturant in town. Mary has come up with one that could seat us. I hope she knows that if we all went, there are 45 adults and 30 kids so far! I know that not everyone is going to go. I want feed back on what you guys really want to do about dinner. Being that the day is going to be busy, most do not want to cook a potluck dinner.
Then we come back at 8 pm. and have the judge view the decorated trailers. Better at night time! Prize's to be awarded to the "Scariest" & the "Funniest".
At 9pm. it's time for the campfire and ghost stories!
So what are your thoughts/ideas?
You about said it all Bob, good planning.

breakfast AT 8 am!!! count me & Kara out ..there is no way I'm getting up or waking her up that early sheesh 9 am breakfast is hard enough, I have to fight with everyone to be there by 9 am....Dan isn't going to be there so I can't leave Kara alone. we'll just meet you at the train
put us down for dinner

Dee,
To my partner in crime, back on post # 182 you said no problem to 8:30 am breakfast. So if I changed the time to 8:30 would you still come? I know things change from day to day.
Are you still going to be able to go to costco for the food? PM on your thoughts.
No potlucks? Pancake breakfast and dinner out? I don't know about all that. Gotta have a potluck. Camp cooking is my favorite part of camping.
Jim
I think we'll skip going out on Saturday night- It will be a busy day with everything else going on. May run into town on Friday and grab something to bring back.
Kristi
Quote from: waveryLaura,
We would be happy to watch Jed during the breakfast :D . I am allergic to wheat. Pancakes aren't exactly on my diet :p .
Wavery, how much do you charge for dog sitting? We got a chihuaua (spelling?? ha ha) in July. We can't leave her alone in the CG, and we can't take her on the train. Its my understanding the pumpkin patch isn't car accessible, so one of use would have to stay back with the dog and one go with the kids to the PP. Unless we can find a solution. A pet sitter is a good one. I wonder how many dogs they allow in one site? :book:
8 am for breakfast is early with getting me and the kids ready so I'm not sure if we'll make it and we also won't be attending dinner.
For anyone not going to dinner Saturday night, maybe we can have our own potluck or eat together and enjoy eachother's company.
As for Saturday's festivities, I think that maybe in a perfect world this may come off without a hitch, but with so many people involved, I can't see it. I think it would be safe to cut out the kid's craft time because they'll have so much fun during the day that they won't miss it. This will also give us more time for the costume contest and trick-or-treating. For those of you who want to go out for dinner, you can go a little early and not feel rushed.
I'm just saying.
Here is another idea.
Switch the mexican resturant to Friday nite. That way we can have a potluck dinner after all.
Hey Bob, Did you get a new Camper?
Quote from: TheVikingHey Bob, Did you get a new Camper?
Yes, Bob, do tell. Any pics?
just an FYI: an accurate count will be needed for breakfast..
when I priced everything out for Bob I believe I came up with a total and we just divided it by the number of familes, that's how we came up with $5 per family...basically charging EXACTLY for what was spent. So anyone deciding not to go the morning of the potluck will make Me (since I'm doing the shopping) short on money.
I say keep the craft, that's one of Kara's favorite things, it's not manditory and they usually don't take that long.
Dinner Friday would work too..
Quote from: SURFcampersYes, Bob, do tell. Any pics?
Hi,
Yes it is true! If you can't tell by my siganture, Im a little excited!
Here is the long version.
Kevin (Jamesdad) and I, left Bakersfield on Sat. am. Drove down to Burbank where we were to meet the seller. We were a little early. AT 10 when the seller was suppose to be there; no show! So I called his cell#. No Answer! I got ahold of him about 20 minutes later. Now mind you, he lives in Yucaipa, He had started out at 8 am. but forgot to bring something with him and he was already an hour into his trek across the #10 fwy. So he went back! Now as he gets going again, he runs into the traffic of the pomona fair that open yesterday!
He is now an hour late getting to us. We walk the trailer and finalize the transaction. We leave Burbank @ noon and head back to Bakersfield. Kevin brought his truck to tow it back and luckily Kevin had his weight distribution hitch and sway bars because our seller forgot the key to unlock the hitch from his truck which I am getting in the deal. Now the seller has to drive all the way from his house to Bakersfield this next Wed. and bring me the hitch and keys!
So now our new addition is home sweet home. A few of the neighbors have come to see what new toy we have. I am going to be taking more pictures today and post later in seperate posting. Thank you for asking. It was worth the wait.
YEAH BOB!! Its fun getting a new toy, isn't it? How many hours did you spend in it yersterday?? Or can I assume you camped out in the driveway...:)
Jamesdad
What time exactly is breakfast going to be served? I read a few posts ago that 8:30 may be an option, if so, we may be able to go to breakfast.

I'll go as long as there's a place to sit outside. Won't know that until I get there. Also, if a friend comes along does she count as family? As I'm reading this, you're not counting actual bodies, it's family units. Not a per-person charge.
Just to throw in my .02. Bob, I don't care when you have the breakfast and neither does Kristi or Ashlee. So we won't be giving you any flak about the time. The one thing I do know is that we will be on that train on time due to the fact that we already paid for it. If breakfast is late morning (Sometimes called brunch) as some people seem to want, then we will just have a shorter time to eat, no biggie. Let me know if you need help

Laura yes.. It's per family/campsite. so those with many gets kids a great deal and those who don't still get a good deal for a yummy breakfast.
The idea here wasn't to make a profit. It was just to get everything paid for. instead of per person and having to keep track of what everyone owes we did it this way to be easy.
Kevin won't be there to do my Math for me :p

brunch Pronunciation: 'br&nch
Function: noun
Etymology: breakfast + lunch
: a meal usually taken
late in the morning that combines a late breakfast and an early lunch
late morning is not 8:55 am
What time do we have to leave to catch the train?
since everyone isn't cooking they won't have dishes etc. and if everyone cleans up their own mess and helps out we should be done and outta there pretty quickly...I've seen this group divour a plethera a food in 9.2 minutes :D
hence the reason for the pancake breakfast instead of a pot luck
I'll be there early to help with cooking. I won't be going on the train ride as I'll probably have Taffy with me. Paula will be in NorCal for the weekend. I'm not planning on the train ride though as I'll have Taffy with me. Let me know if there's no potluck Saturday evening.Moose
Jim and I will not be going on the train so if anyone need help with dogs we'll be around camp.
I can help with breakfast cooking, cleaning what ever is needed.......
for the ones not going out to dinner we can have our own pot luck little but fun something to think about........

As for Potluck or Mexican, I vote for Potluck. I go camping for the food and fellowship. I loved AJ SPURS but it was a little too loud and hard to talk with anyone. I assume the mex place will be the same. Maybe we can do something Friday at eh mex place, and let people choose if they want to go.
Or how about a POLL????

I really don't think a poll is needed, by reading the responses it seems there is a lot in favor of a Saturday Potluck and would miss the tradition..
back in post 225 Lisa had mentioned the mexican restaurant which sounded like they were talking lunch and Brian & Kristi said they may tag along and then somehow evolved into a dinner thing.
I don't care either way. I know quite a few arrive on Fri, set-up and then go out to eat. it may be too hard to "officially" organize a Friday dinner due to arrival times but maybe it can be an informal "hey this is where I'm going to dinner if you want to come join us" type of thing
I don't know Bob what do you think? You're the "BMOC " for this rally :U

YEAH! All we wanted to do was have a nice lunch with our frends the Boothes, and everyone turned it in to a dog and pony show. Oh the humanity!
Frankly, my head is fricken spinning right now. Potluck, no potluck, eat out, don't eat out. Our plan now is to "Wing it". If we bring food for the potluck, we will eat at the potluck, if we don't, we will manage.
Why can't those that want to go out to eat...go out to eat and the ones that want a potluck....have a potluck
There are plenty of people to do both. We have no interest in going out to eat. If we wanted to do that, we would have stayed at home :p . We go camping to do camping stuff :sombraro: . However, some enjoy going out to eat with a group...that's fine too.....just not for us. :sombraro:
Why can't we all just get along!!!!
with it being just me & Kara ..I'm going as easy as possible we may join the pot luck or maybe not..It depends on how much fun Kara is having with the other stuff.
as far as food I can give Kara lunch meat , string cheese and strwberry applesauce and she's happy...oh take that back it's the Halloween one, she won't eat much, lots of her favorite thing is there CANDY!!!!!
Hey Kim speaking of... I know Joshy can't have candy 'cause of his diabetes. can you give us some suggestions so when they trick or treat he won't feel left out. like sugar free candy, cheese & cracker packs etc. I forgot what I gave him last year. I know it was a non food item

iI bought little foam gliders and whily things and I will probably buy candy bars for the bigger kids....let them have their choice. theire may be too many of us to join the eating out crowd because there will be 2 families with 3 kids and 2 sets of grandparents..so we may stay for pot luck also. There is going to be a lot of things going on that day and I don't want anyones kids having a major melt down..like Sarah and our Ashley!!!!!! we have seen them at the their worst and its not pretty.

Dee! Thank you for mentioning about Joshy's special need. Being that Halloween means candy galore, I was hoping that everyone could bring something NOT CANDY for Josh. Josh has fun collecting the candy and knows that he can't eat it but sometimes has a meltdown because he's different. This breaks my heart.
If you want to bring something special for Josh you can bring: sugar free candy, matchbox car, peanut butter cracker, sugar free cookies, gold fish crackers, little toy. Anything low in sugar will be nice.

The only thing that makes Joshy happy when he can't have something is that he knows that one day he will have a pump. With a pump, he can have ice cream and tell the pump how many carbs he's taking and it will give him the amount of insilin to cover it.

Dear, dear, dear. As you may recall, who taught you how to throw. It was me!!! Not Viking - me. And as I recall, when we were practicing I was consistently scoring 2s and 3s while your throws scored ZERO. In fact Griffin was shutting you down. So if you want a challenge, Lori and I are up for it. As for your $$$$, let's play double or nothing on blongo.

..............WE HAVE A BREAKING STORY.............THIS JUST IN..........
Confidential high level sources inform us of a pending investigation by the Blongo Commissioner into performance enhanciing drug use and other doping by players as well as betting on the part of league refs. Sources say this is probably being done to avoid a Congressional inquiry. One high level official quipped "Haven't you noticed that Blongo, Balco and Brian all start with B's." He added "Clearly that is enough to issue subpeonas." Parties in the case recognize however that proceedings into the matter could be delayed indefinitely while officials sort out the famous "Mexican Potluck" controversy.

Very funny Kevin. Should I tell everyone that I bought the "cream" and the "clear" from two guys from SF. I also ordered HGH the other day from my other connections. So I'm good to go for the Blongo Tourney. I'm just concerned for my safety and the safety of others when Brian goes into "roid rage" when he loses.

Hi,
We have deposited all the checks received so far plus the cash as of Sunday nite. The contract will be mailed out today along with a check for what has been sent into us. The train station asked me to relay this message. All who are going, need to be at the station at least 30 minutes before the train leaves.
I want to make sure that the familes who are coming in early reply back to me by this Thursday so that I have an accurate count to tell Far West resort.
Lastly it is my wife, Trina's B-day this tuesday. :cake:

Quote from: Family RVerWe really want to go on this one! I know we are on the waiting list, but who do I keep following up with? We are dreaming of this trip!
watch the board everyday...if Bob is the wagonmaster and if someone needs to cancel then they will contact him. I'm not sure where on the waiting list you are but he will post that a site opened up and who he filled it with
Either that or pick a site and say it's yours, that's what seems to be the trend these days. LOL
Quote from: Family RVerWe really want to go on this one! I know we are on the waiting list, but who do I keep following up with? We are dreaming of this trip!
You could also try and call the campground to see if they have had any cancellations from other campers. Even if you don't have a site right next to the group, you can still partake in all the fun and festivities (except maybe the train ride if it is sold out). Just let Bob know if you are able to get a site.

Lisa,
Hi there. You are #2 on the waiting list. This being one of the major campouts, I am thinking that we have a slim chance of you getting in. Now unless it snows and Wayne cancels! There is always hope but I can tell you that I will try to figure out something.
The other group of campers (Calif. Campers) have not had anyone drop dead. I call every couple of weeks and I am calling again either today or tomorrow for an update. The lower wash basin is filled up with a large group from a local church.
So cross your fingers and look up some old witches spells for the other group to have at least two more cancelations.
Hi
All Aboard! This is the last call for train ride to the pumpkin patch, Sat. the 20 of Oct. 2007.
I need to know now, not tomorrow or the next day!
This just added: This is for anyone who has been on the fence line and choosing to wait to the last minute to let me know they want to go.
If you have sent your monies to us then no need to reply back. thank you from your wagonmaster.

Bob, I think Dave has already given you the info, but if not, we are in for 2 adults and 1 child.
I want to thank all of you for reaching my goal of 10,000 views! Now do I hear 15,000 by the start of the rally! It will probably happen after all the pictures are posted!
Thanks for all your hard work!
Hey Lori, what is the record for most views for any given rally?
Here's a little Halloween game to get you in the mood for the rally.

FUN GAME!!! THX!
Ok now!
The official count down has started. Monday is Oct. 1!
In the next few days I will be posting and PM you all on more details that need to be addressed!
I figure with a group of this size we can get it done and everyone pitching in will make this campout a success!
The first order of business is the pancake breakfast on Sat. morning.
We have made a change in the time that we will begin serving! New time will be 8:30 am!
So on the subject of pancake breakfast; I need to know by this Friday the exact number of people who are going to come to the pancake breakfast. You can PM me about this detail.
Secondly, you all know that it is $5.00 per family. Keeping that in mind I am requesting that you have the exact amount when you pay at the door! It can be five singles or a five dollar bill and that's it! We are not breaking $20's or $10's. This is a small request and you have plenty of time to break those $20's. Bring your own knifes, forks, spoons and plates! We are serving the pancakes and bacon and providing the cups!
Next, if you are not going to the train ride, we can use your help in clean up. We need to be out of the clubhouse by 10 AM! Then down to the train station by 10:30 am. The train ride for our group leaves @ 11:00 am. You can come back at any time.
Craft time is between 2:00 and 3:00 pm. Brad and Mary are the crafters this year! We will be set up on the common area of Alder for crafts.
The costume contest for the kids will be from 3:00 to 5:00 pm. The trick or treating will be right after the contest is over and all prizes given out.
One detail that has been forgotten about is the prizes for the kids.
So that no child is left out; I am asking that each family that is going to have their children partake in the costume contest bring a item with a value of no less than $3.00 and no more than $5.00! If you have two kids then 2 prizes but then it could be the $3.00 variety.
I am looking for volunters to be impartial to Judge the contest. I might just ask the camp site host if they would like to do the honors.
I want feedback on what you all want to do about a potluck dinner which wil be after trick or treating; should be around 6:00pm. It's still light out enough at 6:30 pm and this is 10/10/07!
The raffle will be after dinner on Saturday night---See or PM Lori (Griffsmom) for details.
So there you have it. A lot to digest and I need your responses to all of these questions by this Friday.
Lastly I really need a commitment that if you say you are going to the breakfast that you come. We are putting up the money in advance and we need to know how much we need to buy!
PS: Dee A great B-day party this past weekend!
Brian & Kristi-Thank you for all your help with our new toyho! I need more practice!
Carol & Jim- our small group was certainly in rare form this weekend! I have never seen you laugh so much or so hard!
To Bob & Linda- great friends = great times!

We are thinking that anyone who messes around with the plan that has been set, ie. Changes mind at last minute, adds a bunch of people last minute, or complains excessivley, will have their trailer wrapped with Saran Wrap. This will take place long after you are asleep, so when you wake up, if your trailer is wrapped, you know why.

We are so excited to meet everyone! We are in for the pancake breakfast if it's not too late! Let us know what you need from us!

Lisa,
You need to sing the SCCamper song at breakfast! Come on now! a small price to pay. Speaking of paying. It's $5.00 for your family of six but since you have real little kids they won't eat that much I suspect.
So it's $5.00 for breakfast!
It's $20.00 for each night!
Seeing the expressions on your kids faces; Priceless!
You have my cell#.
Happy Halloween!
Hey there all you that are going to the 2007 Halloween Rally.
I have made site changes. Please double check for arrivals and departures on page one. For a few that are able to come early, it's down to two weeks![/COLOR]

Bob,
If it is not too late, we will all be there for breakfast Saturday Morning. Looking forward to this trip. Can't wait to meet everyone. Oh by the way, we may have a dog and a 1/2 now that Scooby has joined us. Only weighs 3 lbs, so I think he fits the 1/2 category for now. See you soon.

Ronnie,
Does this "1/2" dog have four legs and paws? Does it have a "1/2" mouth or a regular mouth to eat its food? If you can answer yes to the first part and it has a regular mouth then it's a dog and you have to pay the full $1.00 a day price!
Love Ya.

Freedom_5 : Salsa Chicken and Trina's famous Corn Salad.
I'll be making Pulled Pork with cider-baked beans......Yummy
Plus dinner rolls....carol
Taco soup ... I think.

Too bad we don't know where they live....I could send Kara over there..she has
CHICKEN POX :yikes:
the incubation period would set it just about right for the rally. ;)
unfortunetly they all probably have had them already. Kara had the shot , so she has a real mild case.
I'm just hoping Kevin doesn't get it too.. :(

Poor Kevin, First missing school for his kidneys and now he has the chance of getting chicken pox. Not real impressed with the shot they get. Tell Kara the good news is she'll be better by the rally.:)
chicken pox, try doing them at 35

So you found out for sure? For everyone out there - we found out that at age 11, they need a booster to make sure they don't get them. Poor Kara - didn't make it that far! She'll be fine by the rally though and that's the IMPORTANT thing!!!;)

You most likely had a very mild case of them & didn't know it. Same thing with my brother and me. There weren't shots when we were little, so my mom (a registered nurse) sent us to every kid's house who had them. Never got them, even when my youngest brother got them. Never had the mumps or German measles, either. When I was a volunteer at Children's Hospital I had to have a blood test done because I'd never had anything before. It came back showing that I had immunity for all of it. Lucky me!

I'm going to the RV show..the jury is still out on wether Kara can go. I'm doing a drive by the Dr's at 11:30 for them to verify, some of the symptoms fit and others don't, I think having the chicken pox shot has changed the "normal" symptoms. If she does have them, he says as long as they are all scabbed she's not contagious
It's going to be a long week............ :eyecrazy:

Well almost :D Sean and I have been saving this craft for a big rally with a lot of kids. We will be having all the kids making marshmallow shooters (http://www.instructables.com/id/Marshmallow-gun/) (or marshmallow gun). We have enough pre-cut pieces to make 34 shooters. I am asking any and all of you that have any spray paint cans that are not the color white, to bring to the craft table, so the kids can decorate there shooters.
Also if you have any stickers that would be great too :yikes:
My plan is to have the kids assemble there shooters and then let all of them play with them for a little while. After they get it out of there system (or out of breath) I am going to have them come back to the craft table to paint and/or decorate there own shooters.
ALL KIDS THAT WANT TO SPRAY PAINT THEIR SHOOTERS
Must have one of there parents there to help. I will not let a kid handle the spray cans by themselves.
PS......... I know that in these political times some of you might not like the idea of there child having a gun. That is why I am referring to them as shooters and not guns, so I hope I don't offend anyone. Remember this is just a TOY

Well - Marisol has NEVER had the chicken pox and as you know she is due at the end of November. I have heard that this can be a big problem while she is with baby. :yikes: Let me know what you guys think.

I just checked my left over cans of spray paint. I have black, red, chrome and ground cast! I will look at work I think I could score a few more primary colors real cheap.
As far as stickers, Im sure that Trina has some what with doing creative memories and photo journaling for our family albums.

What does the doctor say? I would not chance it even if the exposure in minimal. Just my 2 cents. Thanks Harald for the Brats and for thinking of me. I just had some Brats yesterday. But I can wait till after the baby is born. :)
PS to all of those who are going to the RV show with Dee on Saturday, I'm a doctor; not medical; but you may also be exposed to the chicken pox virus.
From Web MD:
What is chickenpox?
Chickenpox is a common illness that causes an itchy rash and red spots or blisters (pox) all over the body. It is most common in children, but most people will get chickenpox at some point in their lives if they have not had the chickenpox vaccine.
Chickenpox usually isn't serious in healthy children. But it can cause problems for pregnant women, newborns, teens and adults, and people who have immune system problems (//%22http://www.webmd.com/hw-popup/Impaired-immune-system%22) that make it hard for the body to fight infection.
It usually takes 14 to 16 days to get the symptoms of chickenpox after you have been around someone with the virus. This is called the incubation period. You or your child can go back to work, school, or day care when all blisters have crusted over. This is usually about 10 days after the first symptoms start.

Quote from: dkutzAny of you have magic to make the friday traffic on the 405 disappear?
I don't get on the 405.
Of course I'm not as far south as you but I take Wilshire Blvd past the 405 to PCH (Hwy 1). I take that all the way to Ventura and it moves pretty good. I hate the 405 to 101. The 101 crawls all the way past Simi Valley. By that time, I'm in Ventura and getting on the 126.
If you want to go that way, get off the 405 at the Santa Monica Frwy (10). It ends at Hwy 1. The distance is about the same but at least Hwy 1 moves and there is the ocean to look at. The 405 and 101 are both parking lots.

The 126 is now a 4 lane divided hwy. A very nice ride now and not a winding road, like in the old days. Believe me you will like it.

They don't have to be but should be..this is how we've done it it the past.
every kid that shows up in costume brings a prize and we put the prizes on the table. then we do the contest by age groups youngest to oldest.
the "winners" of each group (youngest to oldest) get to pick first fro the prizes. then we let the youngest kids go choose a prize and so on. This way EVERY child should have a prize.
If we do generic prizes I think it will work out better. DD does NOT like girl stuff, unless it's craft stuff, and hates the color pink. if you go to Target or Walmart they usually have some cool stuff on clearance. IMHO I would avoid 99 cent store toys due to all the lead recalls

Hi again, it's me, the wagonmaster.
I have a small problem. Her name is Chloe. Since no dogs can go to the pumpkin patch and we can't leave them in our trailers unattended, would anyone who is staying at camp, be willing to watch her for a few hours?
I know it is asking alot but the only other alternative is to stay at camp with her and Trina and Theresa go to the pumpkin patch. I will then have a unused ticket that someone can buy from me, like say JimQPublic.

They know about the potluck and want to participate...They will bring something... That is why its called a potluck....They also know about the $3.00-$5.00 gift thing for the halloween contest and I am bringing some extra gifts also...get stuff when it is on clearance, I always buy more than I need.
Quote from: Freedom_5Hi again, it's me, the wagonmaster.
Why can't you leave a dog unattended in your trailer? Is someone always with her at home? Are you afraid she will bark? We are leaving Jellybean in the trailer. She has a crate she stays in. Just make sure she has a small bowl of water and she eats before you go and she'll be fine. Leave your keys with someone that is staying just in case she starts to bark alot and you will be fine.
Quote from: beacherAbracadabra! Poof! Go between 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., (but no later than 11:15 a.m.)! It lightens up right about then on Fridays! ;)

Yeah Good luck on that!

exactly..pickles was in the trailer at mojave...and after a couple of hours she started to bark only cause she had to poop otherwise she would've been fine. Carol called me and told me they would be longer than expected and I just listened for her and took her for a walk when she started barking. she was just fine..
when we camped we left our dog all the time to guard the trailer. my parent would just make sure it was opened up so it wouldn't get too hot. I don't remember if we had AC back then if we did then it was running.

This may be a silly question but with all that's going on Saturday, when will we have time to prepare for the potluck? Last year or so, we moved up the dinner potluck because it was dark for dinner and we couldn't see what was being served. I remember when the Flinder's were camping with us and Carey couldn't see what she was putting on her plate and accidently ate seafood. She had a severe allergic reaction and because of this, the potluck was served while it was still light.
I'm just saying......

Kim,
We will be sure that the table is well lit if it gets dark.
I understand and appreciate the concern about food allergies :eyecrazy: but I must say that if a parent knows that a child has food allergies, they should be
very carefully supervised (as you well know). I have dealt with this most of my life and I know that when this is a problem, I don't guess and I teach my kids not to guess. Always ask what is in a dish. In some cases, this can be a matter of life & death. The fact is, if a person knows that there are food allergy issues, potlucks can be deadly.
We recently new of a Church member that almost died at a potluck because of an allergy to peanuts. Someone used the spoon from one dish to scoop out from another dish, then put the spoon back in the original dish. The spoon was in a casserole that was prepared by the allergic girls mother. The other dish was a salad that was prepared with peanut oil (by someone else). It took about 2 minutes for the girls air passage to completely restrict. The paramedics had to perform an emergency Tracheotomy to save her life. It was horrifying.

Not to be distrespectful or sound ouchy, but when you take a dog camping you can't assume they're going to behave the same way they do at home. It's a new/different environment & they can get stressed out. If your dog is inclined to bark at home, there's every likelihood that it'll bark while camping. Nothing is as irritating as a yappy dog ruining the peace & quiet of a campground (well, maybe loud music is ...).
If you have concerns about leaving Chloe at the CG, then leave her home with someone or board her. It's the price dog owners have to pay sometimes (which is why I'm not going to the Pumpin Patch, or why I didn't go to AJ Spurs in Buellton in June).
Bob ..I'm sure someone can keep an eye on chloe for you...
bark collar is another option...
one of the reasons I don't have a dog so I don't have to worry about is it or isn't ok they stay in the camper a couple of hours.
but then again I don't know of too many people that go tent camping with an 9 week old infant, but I think Kara is just fine...matter of fact she lives for camping :p dogs are like children, they adapt.....
Kim..you and Richard may have to divide & conquer..this is one of the reasons it was brought up not to have the potluck.
also everyone NOTE: these times are approx. I think some are too long and some are just right..
just everyone pretend you are leaves and go where the wind blows you :p ..towards the fire and the cactus coolers :!

Or, the neighbor girl will watch him for us.

I'm with Dee that the schedule isn't proportioned correctly but we'll just go with the flow.

I agree Bob, for you to take on a Rally of this size for your first is awesome. You just have to remember you ain't gonna please everyone, So don't even try. It's not worth driving yourself nuts over. For the record, those of us not doing the potluck has nothing to do with your planning skills, it's just our choice. However, I will be selling tickets to the other campers to come and watch the chaos unfold. Reading these posts you would think nobody has ever done a potluck before. :) :Z
BOY, I don't come on in a week or so and things just fall apart.... Are we potlucking or not? We have been so busy, we haven't even thought of the campout until tonight. We need a little R & R, looking forward to it.

I've been biting my tongue (or in this case typing fingers) all week, but I just want to post that being the wagonmaster of any rally, but especially one that involves so much organized activities is a challenge and a labor of love. I want to join Lisa and Brian in saying to thank you to Bob that our family is really looking forward to next weekend. Thank you, in advance to Dieter for the t-shirts, Mary and Sean for the craft, Bob for organizing the train ride, Dee for being willing to buy the breakfast ingredients in advance, Trina for, I'm sure, supporting Bob and offering help, and to all the other behind the scenes helpers that make this happen. For me - speaking for my children - this is in the top 3 events of the year for them and I truly appreciate all of the hard work that is making it happen.
I'm off my soap box - I'll see you all Friday.

I agree - I can imagine all the time and stress that goes in organizing any rally but especially "the largest 1 of the year". Bob has been trying to make as many of us as happy with things as he can. Because of him and his constant calling to the campground, EVERYONE who wanted to attend is going. Thanks to all that are involved in the this years' rally. It is appreciated.

Thanks for looking out for my sanity! It was pushed to the limit today! As you can see I have made it home. I took a few pictures but the sheer madness of me wanting to try to get someplace that was totaly out of my control! I am a patient person and can take alot but the day spent sitting for hours and going nowhere, well it sucked!!
Now moving on to lighter side of sanity. I want to thank all of you who have helped me get this rally squared away. The only thing left to do is to have fun and enjoy ourselfs and our kids as best as we can! Fly our flags proudly and when the Ca. campers stroll by well I can't be responsible and Im not saying that anything would happen! I also never thought I would sit on the fwy for hours and hours and hours :yikes:

should I now go 210 to 134 to 101 to 126???
I maybe leaving earlier of Thurs. It depends on Kara's chicken pox. she has 4 stubborn ones that haven't scabbed up (they better by Thurs :yikes: ) 3 of them should be good by tomorrow and the one on the bottom of her foot may not be ready until Wed. so I may just get her work and home school her another week..ugh!!

5 is reopened at the 14. The southbound truck lanes and the South 5 to North 14 transition will be closed for a long, long time. I don't think there will be worse traffic than normal.
To get home to Lancaster just take 126 through Newhall/Saugus/SantaWhateverTheyCallItNow.
I was planning to go 405-101-126 but maybe it's better to go via Newhall? Google Maps shows the Newhall route being 8 miles shorter from Long Beach. I know Friday afternoon is always hell getting to Ventura. I plan to pick Jason up from pre-school at 1:00 with trailer in tow. Kristi is going to bring Melissa after girl scouts gets out at 3:30. I'll suggest they wait till after dinner or even Saturday morning.

All truck traffic will be running on the 5 instead of the 5-truck by-pass. I think this will impact traffic a lot. From what I've heard on the news, they are talking long delays to get from the 118 to the 126 on the 5 (during rush hour). Traffic is running normally now.
I took that southbound by-pass when we came back from Flying Flags. It was really bizarre how passenger cars were flying through that by-pass, darting in and out, between the trucks. I told Carolyn that I would never go that way again.
They should allow trucks
ONLY and site any passenger cars that use that. It is very tight quarters and sharp turns for high speed traffic.

For the pancake breakfast, the clubhouse has 2 eight foot long tables, 9 six foot long tables and 3 sixty inch round tables. I think that will be enough tables but they only have 44 CHAIRS!
SO every family needs to bring one chair and we should be fine! Also you are bringing your own plates, and silverware.
I also updated the weather report and Saturday forecast says it will be mostly sunny.
We do have a couple of families that are new to us. They have motorhomes and no tow vehicles so we will need some extra car space to take our new campers to the train ride! I know that I can fit 3 in our blazer!
Lastly I want to thank all of you again and to the train people and Far West for putting up with me for months! I started this back on January 10th and now it's almost here. I hope you won't be disappointed. Drive safe and take your time on the 5 Fwy. See you soon and looking forward to a Cactus Cooler! :-()

I just decided to look at the link for the pumpkin patch. this may be of interest for some of you especially with little ones
Please Note: No Strollers, oustide food or drink is allowed onboard. Our trains consists of vintage and antique pieces of rolling stock, most of which were built before the modern amenities of air conditioners and heaters. We suggest "weather-friendly" clothing as the warm summer days can be anchored by cool days and made more comfortable with a light coat or sweater. State law prohibits smoking on the train. Children must be accompanied by an adult when walking through the train. No alcohol may be brought onboard.
Quote from: oreo57Bob, As Toni and I said before and in a phone conversation with you, We are not going to the pumpkin patch thing and would be more than happy to watch Chole, Bob please bring her by and introduce use and I'm sure we'll be just fine.
Haven't met you yet in person Oreo - but you rock! :D

HMMMMMMMMMM!!!....."Clear liquids".......Now what might that include?? :-()
If anyone has an extra adult train ticket let me know and I'll buy it off of you because we are bringing Gregory's friend Jacob too. Otherwise, I'll contact the train company directly to see if any tickets are still available.
I'm getting a little annoyed with this ScCampers tradition of RAIN!!!!

They are predicting "Few Showers" on Saturday. Shouldn't be a real concern. At least it won't be

I have about a hundred pounds of hardwood cutoffs from a cabinet shop- they ought to burn a lot longer than the pine lumber scraps I had last trip.
Road Update:
I-5 northbound truck lanes are open. I-5 South to 14 East connector should be open. I-5 South truck lanes closed which will likely slow traffic for the return trip- but I was far more worried about the drive up on Friday than the return trip Sunday.

The 5 is open, however, it is a mess. The traffic south bound is worse than North due to all the lookie loos. Trust me on this, I just went both ways not 1 hour ago. Whatever you see on the news or read on the net is crap.

So how bad is it going north bound?
South on sunday should be ok, without work traffic.

Why should I trust this site then?
I expect that traffic will be slow for a while even if there's nothing to see. Especially if the news vans are still lined up. I'm going up tomorrow to check out the tunnel.

It's not as bad as South, but, Sunday may not be as easy as you think. Everybody travelling through that area will want to try and see the tunnel. All you can see is the entrance that is all blackend from the fire.

we'll see, I will look for alternates I guess....
Craft time is between 2:00 and 3:00 pm. Brad and Mary are the crafters this year! We will be set up on the common area of Alder for crafts.
Quote:-() ITS CRAFT TIME :-()
Well almost :D Sean and I have been saving this craft for a big rally with a lot of kids.
PSS ......... I would like this to be a surprise for all the kids, So if you could not tell your little ones about the craft that would be great.
Just a reminder to bring any paint spray cans, so the kids can decorate their shooters.
Just another note:
If you plan on using the showers during your stay, they take quarters so load up on change in quarters.
Kids are not to chase the peacocks!
The animals on the property are not to be fed cupcakes or milky way bars!
The sun has been setting around 6:20 pm so it should be still, at least twilight when we eat on Saturday nite.
We are going to come collecting for the pancake breakfast as you get here. It will speed things up and free up our waiters and waitress.
Finally, do you know how to get to the campground?
Bring warm clothing and lots of firewood!
In Ref to the I-5 going south. I can recommend a detour if the traffic seems to backed up.
Take the I-5 south to Lyons Ave (about 4 miles from the 126) exit and make a left over the freeway. take it to the end. It will end on San Fernando Rd.
turn right and take this all the way down until you hit the 14.
make a right onto the 14 heading to LA. and then back onto the 5 going south. this will get you around the tunnel area that burned up and all the lookie loos
look up Valencia, Ca on any map system and you will be able to see the roads mentioned above.
Brain if you know a better work around please chime in.

I'm clear on getting to hwy 150 from hwy 126. However, the resort's website says to turn right on the 2nd entrance, Mupu rd and a right on Pine Grove.
when I look at yahoo maps, it looks like I should turn left on Pine Grove.
???
can you please verify how to get to the cg from hwy 150, and is it clearly marked?
thanks

We stayed at Far West on our 1st trip in our Niagara in Jan of 2005. We stayed in the circle loop (forgot the name but I think the fish squad is staying there.) Anyway, don't be surprised if the peacocks wake you up around 4:30-5 am making noise. (ELP - ELP) After they made there rounds we never saw them again.
I made 45 trick-or-treat goodie bags, I hope they're enough. The kids are looking forward to the trip.

I will try. Reread the map directions a few times.
There are signs as you get closer to the park. Don't go to the first park that you come to on the right side of the road.
From Highway 126 take the 10th Street/Highway 150 exit into Santa Paula. Continue through the city of Santa Paula, approximately 7 miles north towards Ojai. Stay on the right hand lane as the 10th Street/Highway 150 splits.
At the second Steckel County Park entrance, make a right on Mupu Road, and a right on Pine Grove Road. Proceed to the Far West Resorts entrance.
thx, Bob, I have realized that the pin tack on yahoo maps is in the wrong place, which is why I was confused. Thanks for clarifiying the directions for me!

Gosh, I really wish I was going with all of you. I don't think I could even swing a day visit right now. Something, please wipe a few events off my schedule?
I saw the discussion about how to get around the 5. What I'm about to suggest does NOT work at the peak of rush hour, but may be quicker than the 5 to 126 on a getaway friday especially in the earlier hours of the rush.
Pick up the 210W (from the 57 for all you OC folks) Don't forget to wave at me while stuck in traffic changing lanes to the right before the 134. The 210 is really bad in both directions but West is better than East. Pick up the 118 and take it into Moorpark. That's Kraproom spelled backwards- and I used to work there.
Exit at Los Angeles Ave. (for the daring, self navigating types Exit at Collins, find your way to the end of High Street and follow the train tracks on the south side as far west as you can. This will save about 10 minutes when it's busy) Continue west on Los Angeles Ave. while you watch Lori blow past you on the train. This gets slow due to one stop light at Somis Rd miles ahead.
(I wouldn't attempt to pull a PU on the 23, Grimes or Balcolm Cyn Rds. If you're not pulling something, (and you don't have pukey kids) these are fun drives and the quickest way there.)
The 118, aka Los Angeles Ave turns right at a light, stay on the 118 until you see the 126. Take it East! You're past the 150 by about 6 miles so you need to backtrack.
This is my default route to Ventura, SB etc. when towing. Slow single lane traffic is a bore, but it's less stress than the 134/101 or a busy 5/126
Hope it helps
Carl

I feel your pain, sistuh!! We packed 4 nights' homework into 3 and Griffy is taking his Friday spelling test and "frog words" reading quiz today. Poor kid. It's hard to pack 4 nights of homework into 3 when you pile Tiger Scouts and everything else we've got going on top of it.
According to our school district's policy, homework is only supposed to take 20 minutes. Please. Just going through all his flashcards takes 20 minutes. There are at least 3 to 4 other homework things he has to do each night on top of the flashcards. If each one of those other things only took 5 minutes, we still wouldn't fit within the distriict's "policy." Hmmm..probably shouldn't have gotten me started...

I know what you mean Lori. I have Matt's homework which is alot to do and then I have 2 more. This years' school year has been tough on me and will be more so because Sarah signed up to be a Daisy. Not only that, I am now a co-leader for her troop.
FYI- Everyone camping in Alder needs to have an adapter for the electric. They DO NOT have 30 amp outlets, only outlets like you have in your house, so your trailer plug will not work without one.

Just to add something new to this weekend's activities--Dee4j, darksiders and I are sponsoring a pool to guess the arrival date and time of Baby 58Air. The official due date is November 27th. All submissions including a $5 buy-in are due this weekend--you'll have plenty of time to check out Marisol's condition and question her on any aches and pains this weekend. 50% of the pool goes to the winner and the balance goes to 58 Air's college fund (or however the 58Air family wants to use it--consider it a baby shower gift). I'll post all the entries on the board and keep everyone posted on developments as we get closer to the arrival date. See us this weekend for more details.
Wow - that's really cool thank you very much. Marisol is doing fine - she is ready to be examined so that everyone can be on equal footing. I hope I am allowed to enter. And for the right price :D I can offer extra inside information. Okay, just kidding.
By the way it seems that it will be warm this weekend - so I am not bringing soup but rather pumpkin pie or cheese cake let me know if there is a preference with whip cream instead. Still the bratwurst.
And - I will bring a surprise as well - but you have to wait until tomorrow to guess what it is! :D
We may be coming in very late, depending on Paul's antics at work tomorrow. Anyone know the latest time for checking in? Be ready with your flashlights to light our path. I really don't want to have postpone leaving so we come in Saturday morning -- doesn't seem worth going if that's the case.

We aren't leaving until 6:PM either. I hope that we can make it by 8:PM. We can set-up in the dark together. :sombraro:

The truck and trailer are packed. The girls are going to school for the morning....I will grab them and we will be leaving around 10 am. That would be a record, let's see if it really happens!!
We've got wood, raffle stuff, costume prizes, candy, peach schnapps....think we are ready!
Lisa
We're off !!!!:D
Are we the only ones around here that have to WORK for a living :swear:
That's OK, We're all packed & waiting for the 6:00 whistle to blow.
We get to watch the Sun set over the Pacific Ocean as we treverse our way along the Coast Highway :D .

HMMMMMMMMM!!!! Maybe I should leave the PU home and just bring firewood. :J
Jim is on his way but I'm still working (until 3) and won't be on the road until I get the kids, etc. See you up there!
Great time had by all!
I am very glad we have a pop-up trailer. The wind was screaming all along hwy 126 but it didn't bother the car or trailer. Some full-height trailers we passed along the way were leaning and weaving.
Glad I have sway control! After I got through the wind tunnel between Ventura & Thousand Oaks I heard that winds had been clocked at 60mph in Camarillo. I think the combination of a heavier car & great towing set-up made for a good ride. Didn't once really feel knocked around, although I didn't go very fast up the grade from Camarillo (due to the headwind). I did see a big truck towing a larger PUP that was swinging & swaying, though ...
Glad I put the awning up last night, glad I went a day early, and glad I've got the afternoon to take a nap!
Thanks for a great time, everyone. Looking forward to next year!
What an interesting trip home. Made it through the brush fire past Filmore. And got blown home in the wind. Really wasn't too bad, just different then wind without a trailer. Only took us 2 hours to get home, instead of FOUR.(I will post our trip/saga to Far west soon)
Had a GREAT time. The kids had a blast and liked the trick or treating the most. The manure pile at the Pumpkin patch was a bit much, but something to always remember the trip by! ;) The food was great, pancakes were nice and the potluck was fine! My dutch oven cooking needs work, the food took longer to cook than I thought, and the dinner got moved to 6, too late for me to change cook times, .......anyway.....
Bob, I would like to reserve my spot for next year. 2 adults 3 children. For the potluck we will be making something in the dutch oven that won't get done in time. Instead of T-shirts I will print gas masks for the pumpkin patch!
We got home in 2 1/2 hours....great timing! The 126 to the 101 to the 405 was a good suggestion, Dave!
Bob...thanks for wagonmastering this! It was wonderful! We all had a blast. We also enjoyed the train ride....relaxing...
Trina...thanks for putting up with all Bob had to do to plan this trip!
Mary and Brad...the craft was and still lots of fun! Thank you!
Dieter...the shirts came out terrific! Thank you for all you time and effort!
Early Pancake/Bacon Makers...the pancake breakfast was yummy! And, so well organized! Thank you...
Lori...the raffle was lots of fun! Can't wait to bake a cake...
Dee...campfire was nice and toasty. Thanks for the burgers....and cactus coolers!
Kristi and Bri....enjoyed the fun...and the hotdogs! Thanks! Also, thanks for hosting the dance party last night!
Dan...thanks for helping Bran get the movies going!
Theresa...Happy Birthday, tomorrow!
We really did have a fun time with the group! Can't wait for next year!
Lisa
We arrived home in less than 2 hrs. ZERO traffic.
Didn't get to go the Coast Highway because of the Malibu fire but it was nice to get home early.
A big THANKS to all of those that worked so hard to make this rally a great success. Especially the kids and their great costumes and fantastic attitudes. The greatest bunch of kids ever.
Dee.......Thanks for not setting our PU a-blaze. :sombraro:
We uploaded our pics into our Webshots page:
http://good-times.webshots.com/album/561124945OqMNrm
Included are pics of the fire that was just a tad tooooooo close. If I lived in Fillmore, I think I'd be considering getting out of town.

Is that the fire that was right on the 126 on our way out of town? If so it got a lot worse in the time between when we left and when you left.... :(

Those pictures were taken just East of Fillmore. In the last picture, you can see a bunch of fireman working on the ridge, setting back-fires. The interesting thing was that they were setting the fires right in the middle of a large nursery and the wind was blowing about 50mph, right towards the town. :yikes:

wow thats what we saw, but I don't think it was a back fire by the nursery, there was a down power line right nexgt to the nursery that started that I think. I am glad we didnt get wind yesterday...
the 5th Halloween rally was a great success. We had too much fun.
the pancake breakfast was really yummy...We hope that can become a Halloween tradition. Thanks to all the chefs for some good eats.
We really enjoyed Far West...it's a very nice cg in a beautiful area. Coulda done w/out the wind, tho.
Love the T-shirts; Train ride: great, pumpkin patch, not so great...too smelly! Saw some awesome costumes; wonderful potluck; great raffle; the craft was a huge hit. The women ruled this time around the poker table!!...sorry, guys :( Campfire: warm & toasty. Last, but not least, thanks to our fearless wagonmaster, Bob and Trina. Awesome job!
NO RAIN---YIPPEE!!
GREAT, GREAT Rally!!!!! Ditto on the thanks to everyone - we are IN for next year for sure!!!!! It's already on the calendar Bob!
Laura - thanks for the tip on the Ventura ride - although the "tunnel" you mentioned was far from fun - based on the traffic reports - it was still the smoother way to go. Lucky for everyone else who didn't have as far east to go. I passed 2 big rigs on their sides at the 210/15 area. At that point, called Dan - he took surface streets to the 10 (of course, FIRST he had to "try" the 210/15 - made it past 2 exits and THEN listened to me:eyecrazy: )
In spite of it, we still made decent time - see many of you in just a few weeks!!!:)
We left the campground at around 1:45. The only campers left in our circle were CJ Poppin and a new RV pulled into the Boothe Bunch site. By that time the sky towards Santa Clarita was getting very brown and ominous looking and we were all getting a little concerned about the fires in both Santa Clarita and Malibu. I decided to take 126 to the 101 and head south from there. Ventura was a blanket of dark smoke and ashes were coming down on our car when we were in line at the McDonalds. I've never seem anything like it. Jim took 126 to Santa Clarita and said that he was surrounded by dark sky and billowing white smoke at the 126 405 interchange. The traffic was amazingly light for both of us though...we both pulled in about 1-1/2 hours after leaving Santa Paula. We took pictures in Ventura and I will post them later (if they turned out) to give you an idea of what it was like. We left CJPoppin and SurfCampers at the campground but I believe Sue Hardee decided to pack it in.
As usual we all had a blast at this rally. Thanks to Bob and Trina for your planning, Brad, Sean and Mary for the coolest craft ever, Dee for the fire and cactus coolers, Lori for the raffle, the pancake breakfast crew, etc. We loved the train ride, the potluck, the costumes, trick r treats, etc. For some reason, poker was especially fun too! We're ready for next year!
I'll be posting the Baby '58 Air pool on a separate thread later. Thanks for participating.
Thanks Again Bob!
We had a great time! Once again, I managed to fall asleep too early to enjoy mass quantities of Cactus Coolers! The kids had fun with their friends, eating pancakes, the train, crafting, trick or treating. The smell at the Pumpkin Patch, ah....... memories!
Sorry if I woke up all of my neighbors at 3:15 a.m. with the big boom of the awning smashing on the roof and the poles bouncing on the asphalt. If that didn't wake you up, then it might have just been my colorful 3 a.m. commentary on the situation! I know, I should have secured it, but I didn't know it was going to be windy. Happily, there was no damage!
I made it home in about 2.5 hours. I tried getting home on scenic PCH, only to find that we would be sent back to the 101. At least it was moving fast all the way home! Who knew that there was a fire in Malibu? Ok, I guess many people knew.
Well, that ride home was fun! We opted to bypass the 14 and go North up the 5 to the 138 and into Lancaster the back way. The 5 wasn't so bad, but the 138 was relentless with wind. Kinda makes you miss a low-profile camper.
However, it was worth it. We had a great time. Ashlee hosted her first Dance Party in the Hauler, it seemed to go off well. Poker, for me was a disaster. But the chicks tore all us guys up. Good job ladies. As usual it was cool meeting all you newbies, and seeing all the usual suspects. We look forward to next year.
Good job Bob & Trina!
well i made it home a while ago. I braved the 126 to the 5. I decided if I have to drive really slow I would rather do it on the smaller hwy. I had to keep it about 40 all the way to the 5 and just south of the 210. went the 405 to avoid wind. It was much calmer but I got a flat tire instead  Thankfully I had my portable house 'cause you know that's when Kara had to use the bathroom  nothing more fun than being stcuk on a busy freeway, a narow shoulder and your kid saying" mom I have to poop" anyway. we survived
Even though I like Alder loop and the firepit etc, I didn't like that we were in 2 sections So next year will be much better
Hopefully Dan & Kevin will get to go.
had a blast!! Thanks Bob for taking on the beast
Thanks to all that helped with breakfast especially the cleanup
Thanks Brad, Mary & Sean for the great craft
Thanks Lori for buying the projector even tho we didn't have all the money so the kids had movies. and thanks for doing the raffle
Thanks to all those who volunteered to judge in the contests
Thanks Dieter for the shirts
Thanks to those who brought firewood & cactus cooler supplies!!
um..thanks to everyone who put the heavy stuff in my car
Thanks Brian and Kristi for providing the venue for Kara's disco party
and Thanks Ashlee for taking Kara to the petting zoo
I could go on but I'm sure you're getting tired by now.
hopefully our new families had fun and will come back
I want to THANK Everyone who helped me with this Rally!
I want to say that I am truly blessed to have Trina as my wife and that she carried me thru a lot of hurdles, doing this rally. It was a big step in the learning aspect on how to get a big rally done.
I am also blessed to have you all as my fellow camping buddies and the support that you gave me to pitch in when needed.
To Dieter for doing the work on the cool shirts! They looked really good on everyone out at the pumpkin patch.
The pancake breakfast went very smoothly with the additional help from Carolyn, Brandon, Brian, Kristi, Mary, Karen, Dan, Kwisti, Jeanne and especialy Dee for buying all the food and getting up so EARLY!
A big shout out to the cleanup crew consisting of Kevin, Todd, Carolyn, Wayne, Jim and Carol, Paul, David, Emily and Trina. I was surprised when Kevin handed me back the keys to the clubhouse. If I missed anyone I am sorry.
The train ride in itself was fun and the pumpkin patch for the really good prices on the pumpkins that we took home!
(Note to self for next year) (Someone else to run the Pumpkin patch committee). I will take a different approach with this event for next year.
Brad, Mary and Sean craft time was a big hit with the kids. The peacocks are enjoying all the marshmellows thru out the campsites.
The costume contest was fun for all the kids. They all looked so good in their costumes. Can't wait for the pictures to be posted. Sorry to our new campers (RVfamily) for taking naps while all this was going on.
The trick or treating was just like home and enjoyed giving out treats to all who came by.
Potluck, is never a disappointment. Always, Always great food and good friends to share it with.
Lori, without a doubt this was a success. We hope that brought you closer to paying off the projector. The Items donated by Kevin and Todd, were very generous.
Cactus coolers and roaring fires with Dee in tow, using her flame thrower!
Rounding it out for the night, the following were choosen for decorating their sites:
Most Festive: Chez Way and Darksiders.
Most Creepy: 58 Air.
Most Original: Surf Campers.
Special mention is "CASSANDRA" at Brians site.
Lastly Mother Nature was having fun with us last night. If I had heard Beacher's words of wisdom at 3:15 am I might not have had to use my own at 5:00 am! My left awning pole seperated from the trailer! Thanks to Kevin for his assistance and Mike for the zip ties also.
The ride home, route 126 was a white knucler but the 5 was only slightly better. We did make it home in one piece and have talked with a few of you already about their trip home experience.
Thank you again for making this such a great success. I will be posting for 2008 with in the next week.
If you have any negative comments please PM me so that I can try to fix them for next year.
We made it through the wind storm and saw the fire fighters on the side of the freeway fighting the fire. Matt came down with a bad cough and weeze last night and ended up going to Urgent Care as soon as we got home.
The wind storm kept us up last night and had to put the awning away in the middle of the night. We were next to Beacher and heard his awning dance with his roof and hoped it wasn't torn off or damaged. Who would have thought the wind would get so bad.
Had a great time this trip and enjoyed the train ride and the pumpkin patch but not the smell. I loved not having to make breakfast Saturday so THANKS for all who were involved, The potluck was wonderful and am never disappointed nor hungry when finished. Thanks to BOB for wagonmastering and arranging the festivities, your work was appreciated. I really enjoy the costume contest and trick or treating. It was nice meeting some of the newbies and hope you come again.
I talked to Sue and she got home safely. I hope CJ & Surf Campers get home safely too. Last I heard was that they were about to evacuate Fillmore.
Looking forward to next year.
Awesome job Bob making things run soooo smoothly for such a large group. It was a fun weekend...as usual. Its not the place we go, the food we eat or the things we do, its all of you that make it great. I enjoyed talknig with all of you and hanging out. The other stuff is icing on the cake. One of these days I may take on a "wagnomaster" role, but for now I will make myself available..ha..:)
Bob, please sign us up, put our name down for the next Halloween rally as you already have it booked.
As Bob said, it was a white nuckle ride on the 126, even though the anti-sway was cranked down pretty good, the gusts still let you know they were there. There were gusts in the whittier area that were clocked as high as 108 miles and hour, hurricane strength. Gulp...glad I'm in Bakersfield.
The radio was saying they maybe evacuating Filmore...not sure if it got to that point. Hopefully the remaining campers who decided to stay another day didn't have any problems. Sorry to hear about your flat Dee, glad to hear your home safely.
Looking forward to seeing everyone again soon.
Jamesdad
First of all thank you Bob and Trina for making this event happen.
Also, thanks Dee for the castus coolers, Todd for the cool stuff, and everyone for making my brother feel welcome. Also, thank you to chezway, darksiders and dee for creating a contest to figure out when the baby will be born - it makes Marisol and I feel like part of the family.
My brother had a good time and said eveyone he met was nice and he had a good time.
The pancake breakfast and shirts were great and we are looking foward to next year and having our little one be part of the event.
We will post pics when he is born.
A special thanks to Brian for leaving his money at the table! The only thing I can add is that we both gave our money to chezway - congradulations to you Jeannie, next time your going down. :book: :D
We liked the site - the train ride was fun, but the patch was okay. We got home in about 11/2 hour and then took my brother out to dinner to the Tam-O-Shanter - he is now on his way to San Diego to go back to PA.
See you all soon.
Okay, no comment on the traffic home or how long it took us...but is was a very nice short drive...on the other hand, we are glad we left by noon, we got home, unpacked and got the trailer set in its usual spot, came in to a very closed up house, and very thankful for that. The sky turned ominously dark, then the inside of the house had an orange/yellow glow...we all were feeling a bit like a "Halloween" trick was happening...we stayed in and relaxed.
We had a wonderful weekend, we are in for next year without a doubt! Bob, you can count on me for the breakfast again! The craft time was fun! So, we are putting out the challenge... who is going to step up and do craft next year???
Bob & Trina, Dee, Lori, Deiter, all the breakfast crew, and costume contest judges....THANK YOU! This is such a wonderful group to camp with...The kids are wonderful...and to those kids who "gambled" their candy away...Sean had fun!!
Mary (Brad and Sean too!)
We are the last here. It's 9:00 and the sky is clear, but we're listening to 1070 AM for updates. We packed up in case we have to exit with haste. We had such a great time. I must repeat that we are thrilled that we found this group. You guys are wonderful and we think of you as our camping family.
Bob, amazing job as wagonmaster, Lori as auctioneer, Dee as pancake specialist and on and on!
We're definitely in for next year. I'll keep everyone advised on the outcome of the election, who knows, maybe we'll become true SoCals.
Kevin & Todd
What a great time we had this year at the 5th Halloween Campout......Thanks Bob and Trina for the year of hard work putting this all together.......(remember 2 sites for 2008).
Love the Tee shirts good job Dieter....What are you doing next year? Hahaaaa
We had a blast packing all our new loot........I'll be the one with the hot water at the next campout......Jim is the one saying "Oh great one more thing to get into the truck"......Thanks honey......
Both Surf-Campers and ourselves bailed out we left the campground around 5 pm and don't know when Todd and Kevin got out.....(they were almost done packing when we pulled out)The news kept saying that area was going to have high winds with gusts around 80-100 mph and we just didn't feel like riding it out in the pup.......Traffic and the winds coming home were not very bad......The fire in Santa Clarita coming over the hills was such a site and the smoke was sooooooooooooooooooo thick........At last count we heard there are 12 fires burning in S.Calif.......what a mess.....
Glad to be home and looking forward to our next group camp out.....
Just another note of thanks to Brian and Dee for helping us get our easy up down and the pup awning put away.......I thought I was going to fly away while hanging on to it so it didn't tumble over the side of the hill......This is what memories are made of.....
Also being the last ones to leave and looking around the CG may I add a
big thanks to everyone for cleaning up their sites even after all the wind the night before.......The Host of our section(top and bottom) came over and said we were a fun group to hang with.......And we made his job easy because the place was spotless..........
I'll be posting pic's soon ......Right now I must get some much needed sleep
Hope everyone is home safe.....Post us Todd and Kevin.....Thanks again for the great things you put in the raffle.......Thanks everyone who worked so darn hard to make this Halloween Rally GREAT.......Carol and Jim

I am so glad..I've been worried about you out in your PU in this...but knowing surfcampers were there too helped me from going comepletly nuts..
see you soon
Dee
Sounds like everyone had a blast as usual. We're sorry we couldn't be there. We had lots of wind in our canyon. It took our gazebo 30' and dumped it upside down in the creekbed. We packed our awning Sat night before it went over the trailer. Taffy definitely does not like the wind. We had 300+ Cub Scouts and parents in camp so we were busy. We're still trying to get that 5th wheel into camp so we can play with everyone again.
Moose
I won't bore everyone with the same accolades as previously written, so I'll just say "ditto" on all the thanks.
We had a great time. I must apologize, though, to the kids who trick or treated, because I fell asleep and missed half of them!
We had a funny incident on the way home. At least Emily and I found it hilarious -- Paul not so much. On the way up the grade in Camarillo on the 101 where you drop into the valley, Paul noticed one of our latches on the front storage trunk was unlatched and the lid was lifting slightly with all the wind. As we got near the top, we smelled something burning. Paul stopped at the top and latched the deck lid and then popped the hood. He suspected the motor was just so hot from fighting the wind we were driving against that the oil on the motor was heating up. Anyway, nothing was wrong, but as he went to step back from the motor area to lower the hood, a gust of wind slammed the hood down, catching him on top of the head with the hood of the Suburban. The only reason it was funny is because he was out there saying some choice words and rubbing his head and all, and we couldn't hear him, only see him, and it looked like charades or a silent movie. Yeah, we were in trouble or laughing at him, but it was a laughable moment, to us at least!
I failed to mention this in my earlier post, THANK everyone for the non sugar treats for Josh. He really enjoyed having things "just for him" and had fun playing with the toys.
BTW...sign us up for 2008 in Sta. Paula!!! WE ARE IN!!!
:)
Just wanted to say Thanks to all for the warm welcome, Bob & Trina you did
great job as wagonmasters, Dee thanks for the cactus coolers friday night and the great fire. Needless to say just shortly after the costume contest for the kids I started filling bad and retreated to the pup, Toni joined you all for the potluck and enjoyed every bite and you all made her fill at home. Then she retreated to our site for a small fire and cards. Thanks for allowing us to judge the costume contest they where all awsome (click link below).Glad to see everyone made it home safely and we would really enjoy joining you all again.
Thanks, Mike

Hi everyone,
We are praying for everyone who is either directly or indirectly affected by the wildfires!
If it helps, I now have the pictures of the past weekend up. They are linked in my signature to webshots and are under "Halloween Rally 07'".
Take care and lets all pray that no family loses their property or worse, their lives!
I know a few of our camping families live in or close to the fire infested areas of Southern California and Maria and I just wanted to say, "we hope you and your families are safe and doing ok during this tough time. We heard Filmore and possibly Santa Paula is in danger and maybe evacuated. We will pray it comes out ok.
Jamesdad
Bob,
Thanks again for a fun filled weekend. You did a great job. Being new to the group, it was nice finally being able to put faces with names. Everyone was very friendly and made us feel welcome. Can't wait till Lake Lopez. Really looking forward to getting to know everyone better. :J :book:
Well, after a crazy-hectic week I've finally had time to sit down, sort & edit pictures, and get them uploaded. Frankly, I didn't take most of these. My friend Marianne is a picture fiend -- over 200 taken in the short time she was there -- with MY camera! But there are some really cute snaps of the kids in their costumes. Enjoy!
