Title: Labor Day-Canyon RV Park Aug 31-Sept3

I have reserved 16 sites for Canyon RV Park for Labor Day weekend.
Arrive Fri Aug 31 and Depart Monday Sept 3rd.
 
The cost $35 per night and is per 2 people with an extra charge for anyone over 2 poeple. Extra cars are $5/night and there is an $1/day extra charge for dogs. here is their website: Canyon RV (//%22http://www.canyonrvpark.com/%22)

Hi and welcome!  Dee4J is our wagonmaster for this rally.  You can send her a PM  (private message) to find out when and how to send her your payment.  There is only one spot left - so since you posted first, it will go to you after you have contacted her.

Come back and check this board frequently in case Dee posts back to you before you get ahold of her.

Basically, once you pay for your site, you just arrive at the campground on the appointed date and your site will have been paid for.  We usually have at least one group potluck and some other activities planned - all are optional.  You can be a little involved or a lot - depending on your comfort level.  We are a FUN group - all ages and all ages of kids, too.

okay I've put up the deposit and set the date and time for the ropes course.  Sunday at 10 am. It is VERY safe they have a harness that is attached to something at all times.  recumbentman, griffsmom/dad, and myself saw them in action and they are very good with the kids.

Mary put us down for 4 people. I figure if Kara and/or I don't go Kevin & Dan can go again

 there is no weight limit or age limit. if don't have a reach of 64" the kids will just have to go with someone. It looked to me they had at least one person on the ground and one up on the course to help.

Lisa in organizing a blongo ball tourney. I think we have 2 or 3 sets and I ordered 2 extra colors so there will be 4 difrerent color balls to my set so we can play 4 teams.

should we plan a craft???

I have a blongo ball set. Count Lori and I in the tournament. Is this a coed tournament?

Out for the ropes course
Craft - how about hat decorating for the tournament - the kids can make their parents' hats to show team spirit.  (or is that too corny?):o

they are big enough they don't need me...Kenzie is even big enough. I think I measured Kara to have a 60" reach

No worries. The nearest Kaiser is just down the road at Lakeside in Anaheim Hills. You can be there in 5 minutes if there's an emergency.

actually I'ts LakeView and she was just there 3 weeks ago.. but nothing will happen this time she is too close and it will take 7 minutes to get there

Yes This is the RV park that was evacuated due to todays brush fire

It is in the riverbed that runs behind it. earlier this evening it seemed like they had a handle on it. as I wasn't seeing to much black smoke...

Everyone is technically "penciled" in for Thurs. if you want to come Thurs you call them give them your site number and tell them you're with the SCCampers and You will pay upon check in. I need to know who is coming in on Thurs so when I pay the deposit I will verify all is correct

payment anytime between now and end of June. I have to have the deposit in 60 days prior.

also everyone is "penciled" in for early arrival on Thurs. if you know for sure you will not arrive early let me know so I can inform the campground. I believe I have until 30 before we go to let go of the Thurs nite.

We will be camping at Carpinteria, (one of those 6-month in advance ReserveAmerica dealys).   We were planning on driving into Solvang on Saturday, perhaps I will drop off the check then! :D


We know for sure that we will not be there on Thursday on Labor Day weekend.

no you need to do nothing. you will pay at check in or pay me I can't remember. everyone is penciled in for Thurs and when I pay the beginning of next month I will let them know who is coming Thurs and who is not

Kevin maybe studing part of the weekend. he has 4 honors classes and I know for sure 2 have summer assignments for which they have  a test on the first day of school :yikes:

yes I did mean studYing..and make that all 4 classes. He looked real confused with the words "test on first day" of school...reality still hasn't set in yet..

We drove through the entire RVPark after the Buelton movie theatre let out on Saturday night, (we saw the new Fantastic4 movie).;)  I drove up and down each row.  I even tried to spot the giant flagpole, or a seriously-roaring campfire, but they were nowhere to be seen!

I finally stopped a nice Flying Flags polo-shirt wearing employee driving a golf cart.  It turns out that they really are expecting SCCampers! ......This coming weekend. :rolleyes:

Well, now I gotta use a stamp!

unless I hear otherwise I'm assuming you are staying Fri-Sun. When I pay I will be telling them who plans on coming in on Thurs. You will pay that when you check in

we are official...

I have cancelled site 103

since I did not have All the cash required to pay in full I paid the deposit, which was really all they wanted anyway, as I may have to pay more at the end for extra people, cars, and those who sent me payments and have dogs, we forgot about that. so I'm taking the rest of the cash and going to Vegas to see If I can double our money and get that projector we want ;)

Everyone still has the option to come in Thurs..for some reason with groups they automatically leave the site open the night before arrival. They said just show up before 7:30pm (or tell me)check in, pay for Thurs  and you go to the site I have assigned you. They don't know what site everyone is in. Basically I'm responsible for all you yayhoo's :eyecrazy:  

what happens is when you check in if it's Thurs. you pay them for thurs. they will ask how many people, dogs, vehicles etc. they put it on a list and on Saturday or Sun they tell me what the balance is.

cjpoppin they have you for Wed & Thurs and you will pay them for those 2 nites who knows I may even camp Wed too

you are paid for Fri-Mon, but the campground has everyone coming in for thurs nite so if you want to come in On Thurs show up before 7:30 PM or let me know and you pay them for that nite.

the restrooms, I don't use them but I think they are clean they are the brick room with the cold stainless steel camode

Yes, we can attest to the restroom situation!  Yes, steel commode, but very clean, just be careful that children don't go alone. The doors tend to stick and and the locks stick too...I helped a child out of one when we were there.  The grounds are nice and we are soooooo looking forward to getting away again and climbing the rock wall and having lots of fun!

 everyone bring their Blongo ball sets we can set up a kids tourny too. I think they would love that. We can assign some of the bigger kids like Teresa, Kevin & Zach to be "in Charge" to keep the kids game safe.

Keelynn has a birthday party at Chuck E Cheese to attend, and she really wants to go to it.  It ends at 1 pm, I believe.  So, I figure Bran and the girls will be heading out around 1:30-2:00 on that Thursday.  I will be working....depending on what grade level I get (I still have not been told what grade I am teaching, and it is causing me major anxiety)...I will see when I am able to get there on Saturday.

So how are we going to determine the teams?  Draw numbers or an old fashioned schoolyard pick?  Or, pick them as to how well (or not) they would get along playing together.  I think Dave & Lori are competitive to the point that it might be fun to watch if they are on the same team.

What I had planned to do was put names in a hat, and pull to make the teams.  Now, if you want me to have this organized--you will have to trust me to do that here on my own....as I won't be there camping until sometime on Saturday.  Or, if someone else wants to organize it who will be there, that is fine with me.  

I am going to make a list of those who have said they are playing...the adults.  I will post it.  However, right now, we are going to be idiots and brave the heat and crowds, and go to CA Adventure.

ViQueen and I will be introducing a new game to the group this campout. It is very easy and fun to play.   It is called Left-Right-Cener.  You will need 3 quarters per game to play, so bring extra quarters as we may play multiple games over the course of the weekend.  I'd recommend a roll of quarters per person.  There is no limit of players that can play at one time. There can be 4, or there can be 25.  A game lasts on the average 15-20 minutes depending on the amount of players.  We used to play this with neighbors during parties, but used dollar bills and the winners would walk away 50.00 or more.  Even if you lose all your money you are only out .75 cents.  And just because you lose your money doesn't mean you are out of the game.

Brad asked me to post the directions I gave him when he stayed here before so here it is.

Brad lives in Ventura so I told him to take 101 to 134 to
the 210 fwy  EAST  to the 57 fwy SOUTH stay on the 57 south  and shortly after the 60 fwy you will exit IMPERIAL HWY  go LEFT follow it for about 15 minutes to LA PALMA  go LEFT (stay in the right lane ONLY) to Gympsium Cyn  go RIGHT campground is on the right

Note: when you get to Yorba Linda Blvd (mimi's cafe, Chili's, and el Pollo loco on the corners) you will enter the Nixon Freeway which is 2 lanes then one lane and then opens up at the intersection as you go downhill ..be in the left STRAIGHT lane because when you go over the Railroad Tracks that next light is La Palma (Carls Jr) and you need to go left.

the speed limit is 40 on La palma so watch for the motorcops they hide good!!


if you go to google maps and type in Yorba Linda it gives you a good map. Imperial hwy (90) cuts diagonal across town it should take you less than a 1/2 hr to get to the campgound once you get off the freeway..trust me it will be much faster. before you turn left on La palma look straight ahead and that is the 91 fwy parking lot


for those of you coming from south county: if you take the toll rd GO 91 WEST NOT EAST  exit the weir cyn/yorba linda  exit (first one) and GO RIGHT  to La palma  and go right stay in right lane to gypsiumthen right
if it's during rush hour do not go left to Santa ana cyn it is one lane with a stop sign at gypsium and it will back up almost all the way to weir cyn..

OK:  WHo has an oven I can use for potluck Sat. night?  BRANDON:  I'm doing this for you.  I'm bringing Greek food.  Spanakopita AND Baklava!  Now you can't give me a hard time anymore, OK?
 
So, I'll need an oven if I'm bringing Spanakopita.  It'll be a pan of about 12X17 or so.  Baklava will already be done, but I can't bake the Spanakopita until Sat. evening.

We may not make it until Sat. late morning.  Kids don't get home until late Friday and with traffic and all, we may just wait till morning.

well, Estelle, i wasn't planing on using my oven, so it's yours!!! especially, for Spanakopita!...you'll be bringing back some good food memories for me.  my mom used to make that and  baklava...(i'm not Greek, just a Greek food lover, since i grew up eating many Greek/Armenian dishes)
I do make a mean Mousaka, though...that was my favorit dish growing up, so i made sure i learned to make it.


i hate the heat, too, so i guess us wimps will stay in the cool comfort of our a/c units. you can hang out w/me and watch chick flicks or play games

who's idea was it venture away from the beach over Labor Day????????

Hi family, ( SCCampers)
 
 We have sold our trailer in case nobody has noticed our signature. With only a few days till going to orange county to campout, we do have 1 trailer that we are looking at. The banking is in limbo land. The bank is doing about 300 loans a day so ours is taking forever, it seems! Needless to say we have a backup plan. Bob & Theresa will be in a tent next to Jamesdad so our spot # will be 132A. Trina will be sleeping in Dee's trailer at night. We really have to think about what we are taking since we can't put our extra load in a trailer. We also might have to buy take out from the local costco for the potluck.
  So family, thanks for listening to me. Can't wait to get to the cooler temps.
 PS, Russ will not be able to bring the DVD's for the raffle. He had to leave for a family situation and will be gone for two weeks. He sends his regrets.

I believe this is the same place I was going to have DH and Matt go tenting but I don't think they allow tents, it's an RV only park.  (At least that's what they guy on the phone told me.)  You may want to double check before you arrive.

Congratulations on the sale of your camper.  Now you can pick out your toyhauler.   Not sure if they allow tent camping in the RV section but if I remember right there was a tent section but it is at the other end of the cg.  IIRC they also have small cabin like buildings on the other side of the cg.  I am not sure if they are for rent of if they are used for the many scout weekends they have here.
 
For those hot days ahead, didn't they used to have a water fountain/water squirting out of the ground play area? that was near the pool?

Yes they allow tents in a site for $10/night but an RV MUST be in the site, thus the reason Bob is in 132A and Trina staying with us

since having to cancel Bob's site , I have made a change so we won't have a stranger amonst us

and I let 130 go. Bob was holding on to it in hopes he gets a trailer by then as according to the contract I have he could only get a camping credit at this point but when The RV park called me yesterday confirming that I still want all the sites and they let me cancel it at a full refund

They have a group section where they allow tents on a group basis, but just to tent camp as a family I don't think they allow that. I tried to convince them to allow it if Bob would collapse the tent everyday like Pismo requires, but they wouldn't go for it. Actually they have been very pleasant and helpful so I can't really complain

A big thank you to Dee for wagonmastering this rally. Hats off to the campground for being able to refund this close to the rally. I know they will have no problem in renting the space out.
  Jacqui, If things go right, i should be taking a look at the trailer on Wed. He is all the way out in Yucaipa! I have talked to him today and if he can drive it to Victorville on Wed, and I like it, he gets a deposit right there.

There is Lots of shopping nearby...I can point you in any direction you want to go...

The heat isn't that bad..there are lots of trees ..you never know a big bucket of water may accidently fall on you and if you don't have enough extra clothes you'll have to leave them on until they dry out. I mean crazier things have happened. :rolleyes:

You all might want to take a little field trip (can you tell school starts tomorrow?) to the new Bass Pro Shop, on I-15, just south of the 210 fwy.  It's impressive!

I seen there ads in the paper it looks like a great store with lots of stuff, but not willing to make the hour drive maybe when I'm heading that way the end of the month I will stop..

WELL....Considering that I've stayed up until the bitter end most nights with the Fish Squad, especially in Pismo and haven't been invited to "Join" the club, I guess I don't have to worry about being a "Wimp", now do I???:rolleyes:

Laura the 1-15 is about 10 miles from the campground to get there you HAVE to go on the 91 there are NO surface streets. I've had it take over an hour to get to the 15 fwy
but no traffic about 30 minutes is correct...the nickname here in the hood is not the 91 fwy but the 91 parking lot, the 91 nightmare, the I'd rather be dead than be on the 91...

the best time to be on the 91 is 10 PM to about 9 am

Because David has practice, he's going to drive by himself there on Saturday afternoon, then head home Sunday night for his early Monday AM practice.  From our house, I was having him go down Imperial to Yorba Linda, turn left.  Then to La Palma, turn left.  Then to Gypsum Canyon, turn right.  Does that sound the best way to you for a kid who doesn't drive freeways yet?

yes he can go that way too..YL Blvd has a lot of lights though.

the directions I gave will have less lights and will actually cross YL Blvd.

Just tell him too stay in the right hand lane at a certain point they have a lane divider that forces you to go right at gypsium or go straight..it's hard to explain.. It made sense to Brad and Mary when they got there just tell him once on La Palma stay in the right lane

also tell him either way he goes has little mean motor cops hiding with radar guns so tell him to watch his speed..

Well this is our get away day and we're almost packed up.......Not very hard we already had our trailer hooked up from last campout and just had to wash clothes and repack food and hit the road......Looking forward to seeing ya all.....Safe travel to everyone and see ya at the Canyon RV.......I'll be the first one in the pool........Hahaaaaa

It definitely is!  I checked it out last Saturday and had dinner in it's adjoined restaurant, The Islamorada Fish Company, yum!

It's the Fry's of outdoor sports!  It's hard to walk out of there without $pending.  I almost left with a new deluxe 40' party barge, but my Prius dosn't have a hitch! ;)

Dave unfortunately could not get out of having to go to Marina del Rey today for work, so he and Griffin will be arriving late this afternoon or (more likely) early this evening. I'll be bringing mom out tomorrow night (we'll be there for dinner), and then I'll finally get to join the fun on Friday night.
 
I plan on being out in the heat, going to the pool, staying up late with the Fish Squad, playing bongo, and climbing me some rock walls and rope ladders!!!  :p

The morning appointment (your case) wasn't the problem at all; it was the afternoon one that required him to go to Marina de Rey. Everyone involved in that case was calling the Judge's secretary to get the hearing taken off calendar b/c the matter had resolved but she never called anyone back. What a waste of time. I wonder if the judge knew...I can't imagine him wanting to call a case when he didn't have to. I know I wouldn't.

I've been busy getting the girls ready for camping tomorrow. Keelynn is going to a birthday party....and I think the girls and Bran will be heading out sometime around 3 pm.  However...knowing Brandon, that means 4:30.  Whichever, I will be busy working in my classroom all the way through Friday.  Again, I hope to come out on Saturday, if I get everything in my classroom and house all settled.  

I will be sending the Blongo tourney with Brandon....and some things for the raffle, in case I miss it all.

We're also home- we didn't hit any traffic and made it in an hour and a half. We had a great time and look forward to the next one (wilderness getaway) with cooler temps.   We just looked and we are cooler with less humidity today than Yorba Linda.  Oh, I almost forgot- If someone is missing a chair we have it. It's a blue Coleman. Just let us know.:)

speaking of pics... Bob has Proof of me UP & OUTSIDE my trailer at ...are you sitting down.....7 AM!! and you can just see the rays of sunshine beaming off of me.

Kwisti- Tell Zach Kevin is fine , his fever is normal today and will be going to school tomorrow. He will see the Urologist this week and We will  see what he has to say.  What was scary is how sick he got in just a few hours..After the last tests I thought we were over his kidney drama.

  we really enjoyed the group...it was nice visiting with everyone under the shade of the big trees, even better at night with the heat of the day gone.  this heat wave was ill timed, but there's nothing you can do about good ole mother nature
 
  sorry, we didn't get to say goodbye to most of you, since we left early on Sunday, our aircon's breaker kept turning off, so we weren't getting much cool air and the car broke down, as well, so we headed back to Torrance for the cooler 90 degree temps. (hahaha)
 
  thanks, Dee, for organizing this one...just let me know what i owe you and i'll get it to you at Dogwood.  We had a really nice time, it was a good rally!
we're really glad to hear that  Kevin is ok.
  btw, i think the silver pan is mine, i left if behind at the potluck.

Hey Dee - GREAT news about Kevin!!  I'm also really glad he doesn't have to miss his first day of school!  We are all relieved to hear that.  The green spritzer bottle is mine - I hope I never need it again!  

To all those that survived 103 At Canyon RV, great fun to be with you all and share this common bond!!!!  I still think it'll be a great place in the cooler future - the grass area was perfect!  ;) Kristi

We had fun hanging with the group even though DW wasn' t there much. The temp was iincredible, so so hot. We mad it home by 12:30 with no traffic and that included a stop for breakfast. Only 96 in Bakersfield today...very pleasant. We are looking forward to the next one. Oh, by the way, DW sister, who lives in Riverside said it was raining today...we just missed it. It probably would have made it hotter. Bob, looking forward to pictures posted on the site.

Hi All!

Well, I am so glad you have all made it home okay.  We stopped in Yorba Linda for a quick bite and decided to head home straight up the 91 to go through down down LA and up the 101...traffic moved quickly and we were making great time...then the battery light on the truck came on (it happened on Sunday too...) so we watched carefully, then the battery gauge started to drop...well, Brad kept driving...we almost did not make the interchange from 405 to 101, the truck started to die, and then it was okay, and we were still going....well, just about Westlake the gauge was on red and we were in trouble...pulled off, parked the trailer unhitched and we were going to try to get home with the truck...well, not so, we had auto club tow us home...then we went back to Westlake with the Van and brought the trailer home...what should have been a two hour drive...well, let's just say...it was loooong!

We are home and glad to be here, the ropes course was a blast! I guess it was the radiant personalities of the sccampers that camped this weekend, that must have caused all the heat and the earth to shake!  Thanks for all the fun, see you all in Santa Paula!

Thanks for the good hangin' out time Friday and Saturday night.  It's a shame it was so hot that we couldn't have more quality time.
 
We got up at 7:10 and were out of there at 8:30. Paul bribed Emily with going out to breakfast to get her up and moving.
 
And by the way Dee, David made it to practice, albeit 10 minutes late.  He told the coach he hit traffic coming back from the camping trip for practice.  That little liar!  But he said most of the rest of the team were later than he was, so it took the heat (so to speak) off of him.
 
We got home and were unhitching our trailer, and our neighbor came to talk to us and see how things went.  Seems Friday night their AC unit blew the motor, and they've been dealing with this heat.  The first night they slept in the house, but last night they camped out in their cars with the windows open and got eaten by mosquitos!!!  The really ridiculous part is they have a key to our house and were feeding our dogs for us, so why they didn't just stay at our house I don't know.  So Paul rehitched the pop-up, set it up in their driveway, and they're sleeping in the the pop-up tonight so they can have some AC and decent sleep!

HOly cow!!  that sounds like fun!  THat would be my fear of towing, oh and wrecking the damn thing.  Just curious though do you have the RV addition to your AAA membership?  I was told when we bought ours that if we added the RV to the membership they would tow the car and the Trailer home.  If not they would tow the car and leave the trailer.  Just curious to know if thats true.  Adding it was only like and extra $20 or something like that, so it wasn't a big deal...

No, we do not have the AAA RV coverage, that was the discussion home. We were only 25 miles from home, and it was 100+ degrees where we stopped, it was quicker to get the truck home and get our van and come back than to wait for the tow truck for the trailer because the tow coverage is by a different company....Why did you not go?  You sure missed a great rope course and great pot luck!

We're home a day early we just couldn't see spending another day alone in the heat......Came home to the desert to cool off Hahaaaaaaa No kidding it's cooler here then it was at Canyon RV.........We had such a good time even with all the heat....Thanks Dee for all the hard work and the pool time....Glad Kevin is feeling better and will make it to the first day of HS.......I have some very good pics of Dan on the ropes I'll get them posted soon........

Oh, I was melting in that heat...sorry I had to bail early evening yesterday.  I had a migraine, tummyache, and my legs were weak.  Soooo glad to be home in my a/c, only for the power to go out a bit after 3 pm today!!  It was out for almost 4 hours!!!  My migraine and tummyache came back...as our outside temp was 102 at the time.  Power did come back on a bit after 7 pm...and has been holding strong since (fingers are crossed).  

Thanks, Dee, for organizing this!  It is a great campground!  I would def go again!

I spoke too soon about Kevin, about 2:30 he started going downhill again and started vomiting the  fever was not as high this time at 102.4 . he goes from fine to sick as a dog so fast, so he is staying home.

The concern about leaving your trailer unhitched for any time is someone will take the opportunity to steal it, as well.  Another thing to think about, how often do you camp within 7 miles of home?  If you're camping with us in Yorba Linda and you break down between there and home, that's an expensive towing bill.  It's worth it to pay for the 100 miles service and know you're going to be able to get home.  (Said by the person who broke down in
San Clemente once and had to pay almost $200 for the tow bill that wasn't fully covered by my basic AAA service).

We had fun, even with the heat.  It was nice to come home to cooler weather.  We can't say that very often.  Looking forward to Dogwood and cooler temps(I hope).

Have no fear, we have AAA Plus, I was a single mom for 10 years, and I made many a trip by myself to Orange to see Mom and Dad, I was sure to be covered!  Also, we lock the trailer hitch, and we knew we were a relatively short distance from home...and would be right back...another good trick to keep your trailer safe, lower one leg to the ground, even if they get the lock off, rolling the trailer away would be rough.

We so wanted to visit you guys but with the heat, the kids wanted to swim in grandma's pool with daddy while mommy relaxed on the couch with her A/C on.

I thought alot about you guys having fun and dealing with the heat.   I wish the weather was better for you but SCCampers know how to have fun no matter the circumstances.

I got home today and there was a message from some guy saying he found Brandon's wallet!!  Bran called him and is going to pick it up tomorrow.  The guy said he ran across it at a Wells Fargo.  Perhaps someone tried to use his cards?  Don't know what is still in the wallet, we'll find out tomorrow.  Bran just hopes all his receipts from work are all still there.

Since we debuted the "New Toy" we got, last weekend at Canyon RV, I can now add it to my sig and post the pics and story behind it for all to see. We bought it about 1 1/2 months ago, I re-did alot of things on it so we kept it a secret from everyone until it was finished. Given the fact that our last Halloween trip to Vali Lake was riddled with toy haulers and golf carts we thought this whole thing would be kind of funny. Can't wait for Halloween this year!

First off,  the flames are called a Pink/Purple Fade.  As far as the Boa goes.....i think not.  However, a nice set of Purple fuzzy dice may be a nice touch.

Bran got his entire wallet back, cash and all!!  The guy met him in Tustin....the guy said he found the wallet in his grocery bag.  Bran thinks the cart/bag girl snagged it, got nervous, and dumped it in someone else's grocery bag to get rid of it.  We don't care!!
 
Bran tried to give the guy cash and he wouldn't take it.  What a nice guy!!

My family enjoyed meeting all of you.  The catcus coolers were awesome!  The heat kicked my butt!  Had fun hanging out...We are looking forward to one of the other trips, when I don't pass out from heat exhaustion.  Sorry we bailed early..
