Title: Columbus Day weekend trip 10/05/07
Post by: tlhdoc on May 13, 2007, 07:30 AM
Who is up for camping on Columbus Day weekend? I know I am, but I haven't made reservations anywhere yet and it is driving me crazy. :)

We are camping at Codorus State Park, PA. October 5th weekend (Columbus Day Weekend).

Tnis is near my BD, AND I get a 3 day weekend.

Ricketts Glen (that is Red Rock??? right??) is a little far as is Rocky Gap, even for a 3 day weekend for me. So I will not commit right now.

Lets go someplace that I haven't been so I can get a new sticker...It is all about me, you know.  :p

Elk Neck was nice, but we have been there.

Ok Beckie and Paula where do YOU want to go???  That is why I posted before picking a campground.:D
Title:
Post by: SheBantam on May 14, 2007, 12:18 PM
Becky, what sticker do you need? Is it within a 2 to 3 hour drive????

lets see, "we" have not been to Trapps Pond, but that is too far for Tracy for a weekend...What is up around you? that is sorta half way between.

I'd suggest Greenbelt NP, but that may be too far also.

Kershner was talking about the campground right down the street from his house...or maybe even his house...

This weekend we (the women that camped Paula, Beckie, Nancy and I) decided that we are going back to Cunningham Falls for Columbus day weekend.  We were going to camp in the Manor section, but when I came home and tried to make a reservation I found out after 09-04-2007 it is first come/first serve until they close for the year.  So do we want to chance it or make reservations in the Houck area????

Who else wants to camp that weekend(October 5-8)?
Title:
Post by: SheBantam on Jun 18, 2007, 06:28 AM
I'd rather not chance it, I wanna camp site.  Houck is not bad, BUT NO PETS.  Do we want to reserve at a PET friendly place? Like French Creek???  Hey it is "close" to Becky Sara and I. I think French Creek is Pet friendly, and cheaper the MD state parks.

I would prefer to have a guaranteed site.

Hey all,

I vote for a pet site and I would go to Cunningham Falls in a heartbeat, but am open to suggestions.  I want to bring my nappy dog with.  She is currently nappy because of her bad haircut.  She is, however, feeling much better and is on the mend.

OK, it looks like Cunningham Falls is out for Columbus Day weekend.  Is there somewhere new that everyone would like to go to?  Hickory Run SP and French Creek SP both have pet sites, but we have been there.  I am willing to go back or try a new place.  Any suggestions?

Well, being new to this forum and having never camped with any one from the COTOC (that I know of) by I be so bold as to suggest Promised Land State Park, I seem to remember they have quite a few pet sites.

Hi Rich and welcome to COTOC!  Promised Land is on my list of parks to go to, but I think it is too far north for Shebantam and My toys.  We are trying to find a campground that is central for DE, MD, PA for this trip.  Any chance you will join us?
Title:
Post by: SheBantam on Jun 20, 2007, 06:52 AM
Promised Land is about 30 miles further than Cunningham Falls for me.

I looked on the PA DNR web site and see Cordus has pet sites.  It is in York County.

Codorus pet sites: 43-49, 76-86, 132, 134, 135, 137, 139-144, 177, 178, 180, 183, 184

I was thinking about Codorus too...seems like a reasonable distance for all.

Nancy have you checked the distance for you??? Would that be OK?

I had to look it up on yahoo maps.  145 miles not too bad.  I'm in.

I will be in NY this weekend, but anyone want to go look at the campground anytime soon??Becky, Sara?? maybe show me the Green Dragon while we are on the way back???

Tracy, it should be closer or at least about the same as Cunningham falls for you??? Right??? And possibly cheaper...

Becky, you no longer have to be concerned about me firing up that generator, it is now history...we took it back to Lowes tonight...

Raymond is now looking for a Honda EU2000i...he would not listen to me when I told him how light and quiet they were supposed to be...he read it in the newspaper...now he wants one (or two).

Currently I will say yes I will join in on a trip to Codorus SP, really do not need a pet site, but would need a site big enough for a small pop-up and a three man mountain tent for my son.  If someone does a recon please advise.

Oh Paula, you are so funny!  I am glad that you got rid of that monster and are getting the Honda...much better choice.  I will camp with you now...LOL!
I will be busy this weekend helping get the boys ready for scout camp, then I work on Monday and then go camping on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  So, maybe I can do a recon sometime soon after that.  I will also email Lee and see what sites he likes best...I believe that is his favorite PA park.

Tracy:

I was here with the MAC group last September. It was the same weekend as the MtnCamper rally and we had a little ceremony around the fire. We stayed in the B loop which has both pet and non-pet sites. There are 5 or 6 pet sites available right now. I think I had site 43 last time. The sites are wooded enough even for you in this loop! It's a nice park, which I hadn't camped in before since it's less than an hour from where I keep my camper. Close to the Utz factory store, KClinger's (my favorite beer bar in Hanover), and a new Wal-mart SuperCenter, but the park itself feels pretty remote. I think Bruce (banjorules AKA WrongWay) may have photos of the sites, but I couldn't find the link to them right off. If you folks are going this weekend I'll reserve a site for at least Friday & Saturday nights.

John thanks for the information.  The decision isn't final on this park, but I will get on the others.  HINT everyone, is this where we want to camp?  Looking forward to seeing you at the campground.:D

Sounds good to me...I was talking to one of the Gals at WG, well e-mailing after the trip, she lives near Parkesburg PA (between Gap and Coatesville) and said if schedules with everything works out, she would consider coming too.

I was going to book with MAC campers for my B-day weekend (the following weekend) at Cunningham Falls, the electric loop is full already...it is the Apple Festival...

We had better make up our minds fast in case there is something going on in the Codorus area.

I know the rally has most of out attention, but Suzanne, a lady I met at the pux RALLY in NY, lives about a half hour or so from me and would like to join us at Codorus IF we are going...so what is the consensus???

Nancy and I are ready. Suzanne would like to...any other takers??? We have to get the pet sites quick for those who have pets.

Paula I couldn't take the pressure you were putting on me, so reservations have been made.  I made a reservation for site 77 pet/electric for 3 nights.  KawKamper made a reservation for site 76 pet/electric for 2 nights, and Hersheygirl made her reservation for site 75 for 3 nights.  October 5th is the Friday that we are starting. :)

OK...I have site 46...I think there are 3 dog sites left in the loop. I wasn't sure if Josie wanted to be next to any Dalmations if they showed up, so we left 78 and 79 for someone else! Hope you all have a great time at the rally!

Gee all that pressure...Nancy, you gonna book???

Oh I am on site 73.  Arrive Friday (this may be interesting as I do not drive at night, and backing... will see if I can leave work at noon) and leave on Monday.
Schools in Delaware are always in session on Columbus day, because they get an inservice day or two later in the month.

I am dry camping the weekend after with MAC campers

I'm on #74.  I'm arriving on Thursday for 5 nights.  Did you see where they need camp hosts?  I could stay for free if I hosted for 2 weeks.  Something to think about for future reference.

Considering how busy state parks are during the summer, I can't imagine how many vacation plans have been totally messed up. It's such a shame!

However...

We will be at Killens Pond State Park the following weekend.  Have reservations for Saturday through Monday (13th thru 15th), but I'm seriously considering going down on Friday after work.:)

Anybody who can't make the Columbus Day trip and can make the following weekend-there are still plenty of sites available...

Hi everyone! I'm sorry to say that we'll be backing out of this trip. We are bringing home a new hybrid on Sat. Because our barebones popup was so lightweight for our truck, neither of us has ever driven w/ a WDH, antisway, or brake controller. Needless to say, we're a bit apprehensive about it. Add to that, the increased size of the hybrid, & I really don't feel comfortable that our first outing would be an after dark arrival at a park we have never visited before. Sorry to miss out on this trip, but once we get the hang of the hybrid & all of its amenities, I'm sure I'll catch up with you again.

Raymond and I took a ride to find Codorous this morning...THANK YOU governor Rendel for making it so hard to find....

I took a quick glance at the directions, did not write them down and well with another Jeffery story for Diane, I forgot everything except the exit we needed on 83, could not seem to even find 83, kept heading east, but still headed North...then we knew we were close and even the locals kept giving up bad directions and the atlas was next to useless...

Finally we found a gal who routed us through Hanover and told us to turn at the light a little past the RR tracks...NO LIGHT!!

We back tracked and went down a State Hwy until we hit a traffic circle...THis SP is NOT marked until you actually enter it. Sp please be careful.

IF coming I 83, get off at exit 8, that is 216. follow the all the twist and turns (and it does do a lot) and it goes into the park.

IF coming East on US 30, take a right on 116 to Hanver, go through Hanover, the RR are right at the edge of town, and then turn left onto 516, go on that to the traffic circle (I think the town is Jefferson) and take the first turn, that will take you to 216, turn right.  We did not get to the campground, made our wa back home with a minor zig where we were supposed to zag.

Do you all know how close I came to canceling???? I cannot imagine trying to find this place with a camper attached, as I made some pretty tight turn arounds.

Post by: SheBantam on Sep 24, 2007, 05:40 AM
Sorry Di, We made it to the State Park, but not all the way to the campground.  It was getting late and neither of us drive at night anyore, unless we have to.

I can say that the water levels were very low, though there were boaters, a pontoon boat and a number of kayaks.

Cannot bring my Kayak as I am not able to get it on the minivan...It has been since March and to the Chiro 3 times per week. I it is som better, but not to the point I can twist with the Kayak to get it on top of the car...Raymond's blow up boat is too short for PA SP lakes (minimum length is 9' in PA SP lakes)

Going to miss you all. Congrats on the upgrade.

I can relate as the Jayco had nothing except what I put in it, it did not even have a battery or a water tank...talk about beare bones...then I got the Bantam...a world of difference, and HAD to have a sway bar.

Know nothing about WDH, as the dealer told me that would be over kill with the Bantam and the F150.  never looked back, as I over tighten the sway bar to help almost eliminate the "sling shot effect" that happens when trucks and more so with Small SUVs and minivans as they pass.

The backing easier as there is both a longer and a wider wheelbase.  Towing was not bad, but then again, the Bantam is an ultr-light, weighs about what a Niagra weighs,  Getting used to looking in the rear view mirror and seeing white is a little un-nerving at first, but again, it is something that you get used to and use the mirrors more.  Codorus would not be too bad for you all since you all live off of US 30 (compared to the rest of us), you could stay off the big expressways, follow 30 through York and hang a left at 116, go through Hanover and the left on 516 to the traffic circle and then the first right...to the end and take a right...easy as pie...yeah right...I know that it takes some getting used to after pulling a little camper...our maiden voyage was down in Delaware near Lums Pond, at a Commercial campground that a MAPCE member recommended (we have not been back).

Hope to see you around, enjoy the new Toy!

Raymond is debating about coming, and IF he comes he wants to be comfortable...so that means the Bantam...AND that means transfering everything back out of the van into the truck...so I told him I need to know for sure by Wednesday, if he decides after that, it will be the Cabin A.

yep, it was the Cabin A and Raymond Saturday to MOnday.

Sorry the others canceled, Nancy, Ryamond and I were kinda lonely after Tracy left.  I felt really bad about leaving Nancy but I had a CHiro appointment in the afternoon AND he found why I have been getting the headaches...Where is Seth when I needed him...More therapy, and message therapy. I am falling apart

Nancy and I picked up some firewood after people left on Sunday and she picjked up some more today. When I left around noonish today, she was debating an extra night.

AAfter a bad start (had a flat lined battery and my battery zapper did nothing, Nancy got out her electric quick start, I got out 50' of extension cord and then got the minivan running.,,the original motorcraft battery went kaput, though the minivn was almost to the hitch (about 4" to the left, when I parke the van and we used the Corolla all weekend. So all I had to do was pull the Cabin A over to the hitch (it was that perfect of a weekend park job) a and crank...no backing, I did that on Saturday.  Something good anyway.

No, we are going t have to cut the wings off the thingees to get them to turn past the wood.

Raymond took out the toaster and toaster oven and got a good straight up look (he did not realize that that was a door down there and that it opened until much much later)
