While I haven't personally camped there many of our friends have and none want to go back. They have gotten quite expensive and are known to squeeze in campers quite close. I've been told they park you and the camper awning can almost touch the next camper.
If you can do without hookups try Hither Hills in Montauk. It books up for the summer bery early but is a great place to camp. We go three times a year. Wildwood is also nice, more in the woods.
I stay at Wildwood all the time will be camping there weekend of 7/4, Labor Day weekend and Columbus day weekend. I will also be at Heather Hills 2 times this year 3 ed weekend in September and 2 weekend in October. I was looking for a change but what you reported was exactly what someone else said. Thanks for the confirmation. Hecker State park is also good but no hook ups.
I've heard same thing about GP being crowded. The only good thind I heard was about all the grass which was good for small kids with bikes.
