I've gotta wait for the boss to get home :) . Then, we will have to debate it for a week or two :sombraro: .
I think that my kids were talking about planning something next summer. I have to check that too and they are out of town until next week.

I tell ya you debate any longer than tonight and you won't get in. we tried last week and was a day after the the one yr date and we couldn't get more than 2 sites together without many sites taken in between, we would've been spread way out
Not only is it a fishing lake it's a waterskiing/swim lake too
not to mention awesome waterslides
My wife tried to get through for like 20 minutes this afternoon with no luck. Got disconnected once and waited and waited the second time, on hold no luck. We will try tomorrow and hope for the best.
Welllll!!! Maybe we can get through after the rush :sombraro:

Cool!!! I just called to get #23 since it was the only one in the upper half that wasn't taken but it's gone, she said people are calling all morning I hope that it was SCCampers!! if so..post your site numbers
she told me 9 was the next open one open..they're going fast
23 wasn't open when I called at 8:15. I chose #12 because she said it was big & shaded. At that time there wasn't anything higher than 13 open.

It will be probably be comepletely full before the day is over..It's one of the few sections with full Hookups
site 16 is the camp host site so always is unavailable

You could always reserve it & cancel for a $6 fee. I know, it's a long time from now, but with the state of some of the better CGs & their reservation policies, I guess I don't mind doing it this way. Heck I may not be able to go, but won't know until later on. My BIG trip next year will be an 8-day rafting trip down the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon! Camping in my HTT will have to fit in around that.

We are in Site #7 blue Jays, closest I could get! Oh well we can always come up a see you all.
We were able to get into site #6 next to you Sue.

We are camping 24-28th. May want to extend not sure yet. Good going Kim at least I won't be alone! Neat campground lots of wildlife, deer and turkeys, but the water park is not heated and it is very cold.
I talked to Randy about it but it is just too far for 4 days. It just isn't any fun without the SCCampers:( . I get all sad when everyone leaves:rolleyes: :( .

Dee,
July 24th is a Thursday :D .
isn't that what I said??? ;)
Randy said we had to go so I called and got site #5 for Thurs 7/24-7/28. We won't drive 350 miles for just anybody ya know:sombraro:. Once a SCCamper always a SCCamper:D
According to reservations they now have sites 1, 2, 3, 4 and 11. Supposedly site 11 has no shade
Jacqui
OK, now that I made a reservation I am a little worried. I looked on the site imformation and it says our site (#5) is 35 yards from the railroad tracks. How busy are these tracks? I may have to drink a new beverage of choice to help me sleep at night.

Laura I looked on the campsite description and it says 12 is large but has NO SHADE. If shade is important to you you might want to check with them.
Jacqui
OK...OK........I can't stand the pressure anymore :yikes: .
I'll see if I can find my daughter tomorrow. Maybe I can make reservations on Friday :sombraro: .

Well, that's not what the woman who made my reservation said. Picture looks like there's a bit of shade, but heck, if I can do that TT campground with no shade, this will be a piece of cake. I have AC & an awning. And the coast is only 20 mi. away. Thanks for looking out for me, Jacqui!
I'm not going by the "shade" thing comepletely...first of all when they took these pictures it must have been winter.
there is lots of shade everywhere. maybe not exactly ON your trailer but so you move your chair a bit. My favorite is Mallard 4. the kids and I stayed in that I think 2 yrs ago, it says no shade but we had lots of shade.
my site opens up onto a big field with lots of trees...grab a chair and hang out under one
The cool thing..is the deer and the turkeys that wander thru.

Just to let Kevin (Jamesdad) know, we included their family in site #9. We had to make the decision for him while he was at work.
Thanks Bob, are you my new travel advisor? I prefer shade, not to close to he water slide and breakfast would have to be served by 9:00. ...ha ha
Actually Bob, We would have missed this as it appears to book up with a blink of an eye. Thanks for thinking of us.
Jamesdad
OK I think this maybe a new rally record. In less than 1 day (24 hours) we have a rally with 21 families signed up and it is more than a year away.
WOW!!
Jacquii
Just checking out my new signature, thanks for your help Bob.

Thanks Bob... I wish I could've been able to swing more sites
not only the total cost, but also the chance of not people being able to go and being stuck with the cancelation fees for each site was a concern
it was too hard to plan and have the money come in ahead of time. you don't know what you can get. The original plan was to get in the Quail section and that wasn't going to work so plan B of bluejay was made right away.
My motto is ..whereever I go ..I have fun...kids learn to adapt and if you feel you are too far to leave them, you let them hang out , fall asleep, and move them when you go to bed..
and if that doesn't work...drink more Cactus coolers!!! :! :J
BTW....WOOO HOOO our first rally of 2008 is planned!!!! :-()
also for those of you who can't get in.. keep an eye on the board. as it gets closer there maybe someone who can't go and you can buy their site from them

Dee,
If you really think that someone may pick up the slack......maybe I'll give it a shot today. Heck, if I get something and can't go maybe someone, that hasn't been on the board, may want it. July 2008 is a long way off and anything can happen, I suppose.
Then again, the San Clemente camp-out started with 10-12 people interested and inthe end, only 6 showed :eyecrazy: OHHHHHHHHH!!!!! What to do??? :banghead:
page one is now updated
you can now see who is in what site and arrival and departure days
Isn't it gonna be REALLY hot there that time of year? !0 miles inland over the hills? like 110?

Hi Dee, please mark us down also Thurs to Mon. This will be ourt long vacation for the summer.
Jamesdad
Dee,
We will be thurs thru mon. as well as pop-up-possee. Friends of ours that have been here before say yes, it can be hot during July but there is the water slide area. The lake and shade. Biggest plus factor, all of us will be there! :yikes: It also cools down at night! So Dieter, you should really call in before they are all gone. That goes for you Wayne also.

Let me be the first to say that NOTHING will stand in the way of my dream trip of rafting down the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon next summer, including this trip. I'll know by November when I'm going, and if the only time is the same as this trip, my site is all yours, Dieter. :D
Hi Azusateach,
My dad has done the Colorado river trip and it was one of the best trips he has ever taken. Loved it. He has taken alot of trips and seen alot of places and that one is by far on his top 3 ever. Just thought I would let you know you will probaby enjoy it...:)

Thanks for the endorsement. I've heard nothing but good stuff about doing a trip like this, and I ain't getting any younger ...
I want to do it all -- rafting, camping, touring. Maybe I should retire sooner than later ... :D
Azusateach,
My dad retired in 1999 at the young age of 57. He has since seen most of the world and is now traveling in a 36 foot deisel pusher RV. They just called me today from Nova Scotia. My parents are doing the most they can beofre they get too old and health issues start. There dog has seen more of this country than I have...:)
Soooo, enjoy as soon as posible as the chance may slip by.
Jamesdad
Hey -
We have to back out of this one. We will be in Oregon until the 22nd, but then Zach will be leaving upon our return on a trip where he'll be representing Lutheran high school youth.
Dee - if I owe you a cancellation fee, let me know OR if there is a waiting list, TAG! They're it!!!!
Kristi,
You get back on the 22nd from Oregon...2 days is plenty of time to unpack, repack, load, and drive to make it to the campout on the 24th...:) We'll miss you.
Jamesdad
OK, We don't know anyone, but we're in! Site 14. See you all there, and of course before that somewhere else.

Jacqui:W
If Waverly doesn't want #5, I'm sure Matt's girlfriend's family may take it. I'll talk to them and see if they'd want to go.
you know..I'm trying to keep things up to date and organized but people would rather play games and cause trouble...so if you have a site it needs to be posted..

Oh, but you do! This trip has been around for quite some time, and it was pretty much full before it was posted. I have lots of confidence that someone's plans will change & you'll get in. Otherwise, you could see about booking another site, but I don't know how far away it'll be from everyone else.
Who knows, maybe Wavery's got another spot up his sleeve!
Laura
Not to worry..........was only playing around......I just dropped the ball on this camp out and when ya snooze ya lose.......I know everyone will have a blast and I'm sure there will be other camp outs....... :#
I'm a newbie to your group but I may be interested in this trip. I've read through the posts and it's very confusing. I get that a person named Dee4j is organizing this campout, but I can't figure out if there are any sites left, how does this person keep track of this with everyone posting like this? Is this normal? It seems like it makes it really difficult for the organizer. So, is there room?

We SCCAMPERS have made a new definition for "Normal" :J We may not make much sense but we do have fun :sombraro:
Most of the rallies have a fairly clear organization with a "Wagon-master" that tries to keep things organized. This one started out as a "Self-service" rally. They tend to be sort of a free for all where everyone makes their own reservations. The "Wagon-master's" role is a little less clear in these types of rallies (I think) but (brave) Dee has stepped up and is keeping the attendance list straight on the first page (or at least she's trying). Things got a little confusing with who had what reservation because I kept an "Ace-in-the-whole". I won't do that again :yikes: .
Anyway, check back once in a while. This rally is pretty far off and I can just about guaranty you that there will be many changes before the date arrives. :D

I did notice that you seemed to be at the forefront of the trouble. Someone always has to take a leadership role, it makes it difficult when one person is dropping a turd in the punchbowl. Their job seems difficult to me and don't look to "Wagon Master" for a long time.
cjpoppin' and reluahyot I'll start a waiting list in case someone needs to get rid of their site
so for all of you who have a site. If you can't go ...PLEASE post here first before canceling it.. another SCCamper or NorCal family may be able to camp :tent:

I guess when you get to know us, you'll realize that it's all in good fun. We are a light hearted group.
The rally in question didn't really have a "Wagon-master" because it is a "Self-service" rally. Being almost a year-off, it may even get more exciting as time goes on (unless Dee kills me first :J ).

just a note: snce this is a self service rally, those on the waiting list may at anytime call the campground itself to see if they're any cancellations. I will not be checking with the campground.
The waiting list is for those cancellations in our group. Those who already have a site need to offer it to those on the list. Please refer to :

I know Lake Casitas has a site like that. It's nice knowing what you're getting before you arrive at the campground. Luckily, for Lake Casitas, I don't think there is a bad site there.
I just called Lake Lopez just in case they had cancellations and I was told that they have 2 sites still available. Sites #1 & 2 are available but they are barely 20ft long. Maybe Hatlet & CJ can fit in them.

Which section are you having this rally in? I see that it is in one of the f/h/u areas but which?
We just stayed in Squirrel this last weekend. It is non h/u tent area but we found a spot that was flat and wide. It is the area that is closest to the check in office.
Also, for those of you who have black water tanks and those tote things, Lopez Lake is in the process of converting their dump station into a permanent boat washing/inspection station. They are trying to keep the mussel that has infested other lakes around the nation and So. CA out of the local lakes.
The weather was awesome as we had at about 90 degrees during the daytime.

I can answer that question. You buy your tickets the day you go to the water slide at the water slide gate. Here are the prices from there web site.
This is going to be a really great Campout, cannot wait for it.
Mustang Water Slides & STAMPEDE! RatesRegular Admission - 1 hr. $7.75
Half-day Pass - 3 hrs. $14.00
All-day Pass $17.00*
Observer Pass $2.00
Hi, all! Popping by to see how your trip planning is going!
A little FYI -- If anyone's allergic to stinging insects, beware there are lots of yellow jackets at the water slides. They usually swarm around the concessions area, but they are other places as well, which is a bummer since most people walk barefoot there.

Dans says yes, but only 1/4 of it...That looks like sooo much fun, but the current condition of my back I'm sure my Dr. is going to say "are you nuts" but Dan & the kids would like it....I was looking at the boat rentals (Pontoons) it would actually not be that expensive if enough joined in and went in shifts.
Dee Jim says that sounds like lots of fun if you can get some others to help with the cost.......Also, he says he wants to drive for a little while,Hahaaaaa

Remember Dee, Once the 6 Quigs get on board, that's 6 people and that boat is full!!
That $350 is just the cost of the boat rental. Gas is extra. last time I rented a boat, 2 years ago, I spent an additional $85 on gas, so figure an extra $100 to $125 or more on gas, depending on how much we use the boat, and if it is a lot of blasting around at full throttle, or just puttering around, taking the kids for tube rides.
Hey, we are up to 4 families interested so far. Maybe more will be interested, and we might need to rent a second boat!! Either way, I am defenitely renting a boat. My kids would spent the full day out on the water tubing, water ski-ing and wakeboarding if we let them. It just can get a tiring, being in the hot sun all day, and if the boat does not have a sun shade, keeping the kids covered in sunscreen if a full time job.
Add us to the list of families interested in renting a pontoon boat.

My understanding is that you can't use the drag along stuff. No part of the body can touch the water at any time. You might want to call them and double check. :D
I was looking at the water park and it looks like a lot of fun. An all day pass was $17. They also had a group rate of $15 if we had 15 or more people going but it looks like you would have to pre-buy all the tickets. I wonder if we can pre-buy them the day before we are all going to go or do they want you to buy them weeks before. They also may have a coupon available. The one they are offering for this week is "if you buy 3 all day passes you get a 4th free" For us with larger families, this would be a nice cost saver.
If you can't be in the lake and can only be in the boat, we would probably prefer to go in on the pontoon boat.

Looks like Wayne is having another senior moment ;)
We camped at Lake Lopez back in 2001 and we went swimming in the lake. They have a beach dedicated for swimming, with a lifeguard on duty, and marker bouys to keep boats out of the area. There was plenty of boating activity that day, with people on skis and tubing.
It must have been some other lake you were dreaming about Wavery. Lexington Resevoir near us is a drinking water lake, and no powered boats are allowed, but it is OK to kayak in it, as well as use a windsurfer. I took my hobie cat there often, as we sure touched the water plenty of times.
Swimming in the lake is OK. No body contact rules in effect. If you bring a boat or other water craft to the lake, including kayaks, it will have to pass inspection for the dreaded QUAGGA MUSSEL that have invaded other lakes in Southern Ca. and other bodies of water.

Kevin it seems like your boat will be full most of the time, I'm going to check to see if they have 2 of those boats...I'm thinking about the 5 hours for $200 plus $75 double tube rental
Add our famiy to the list of renting a pontoon boat.

I don't mind being Captain, as a captain is only in charge of one boat.
It looks like we are going to have a fleet of boats, and need an Admiral :D
I have no problem keping track of who is interested,
Currently interested in the Ski boat we have:
6Quigs 1+4
Dee4j 1+2
O C Campers 1+3
Chez Way 2+2
Hardees 2+4
And for the more relaxing pontoon boat
Dee4j 1
Cjpoppin 2 (pontoon captain)
O C Camper 1
Recumbentman 2
As the time gets closer we can decide exactly what to rent.
If someone wants to take the boat and the tube for an hour or more and have fun, or I am available to drive the boat while they have fun, or I can take your kids along while you relax and watch, possibly from the pontoon boat. My younger 2 boys will get bored quickly, so once they have had a spin, I can drop them off, and then have room for 3 or 4 more people.
We'll meet on the Thursday evening, by Dee's campfire, and work out the details and decide if we need to assign time slots or whatever.

too depressed to talk about it right now..
Are you guys renting all the boats you are using? I'm only asking because I received a note in a confirmation that I received today that there has been a Mussel invasion and all/most boats must be inspected before being put into the lake. I'm not sure about Jet Ski's. If you have any questions, call 805-788-2381.

yes the jet ski will have to be inspected...all they do is look and see if you have those little buggers on there but if it hasn't been used in 5 years they should be fine

Just adding my two cents...there will be 5 total in recumbentman's group, four adults and one child...we are all planning on partaking in the pontoon boat...the older boys (adults) might want to get in on the ski boat action...we too will figure it all out when we get there...we are so looking forward to the time away...

It'll be just me. I am coming by myself to this rally. Joshua has moved out and Bryan just left today on a month long trip to Yellowstone and Canada, etc. with his Grandpa. Boy was he excited, hasn't stop talking for about 2 weeks now.

a note on the firewood, everyone pleeze bring some, I will NOT be bringing my usual 2 tubs of firewood. Due to the condition of my back and the length of the trip I have to re-evaluate what I take.
here's why: many of you know I have been complaining about my back for at least a year, it has continued to get worse and the last 2 months even worse. I started seeing a new chiro a few months ago and he told he has an Idea whats wrong but I have to get an MRI, of course I put that off until I couldn't stand the pain anymore, when your 9 yr old is helping you get dressed and you are practically dragging your left leg along, then it's passed time. The MRI shows I have 3 bulging discs in my lower back ranging from 2mm-4mm and the 4 mm one is compressing the nerve sleeve, as per the MRI report. according to the surgeon 2 pieces of my disc have broke off and is pressing on the nerves, he said he could go in an remove them but he thinks the epidural cortisone shot and PT 3x's/week will work (the chiro & PT are costing me $500/week :% :banghead: ). I almost cancelled this trip altogether as sitting a driving more than 1/2 hr kills me.
so instead I'm leaving Wed and if it take me 12 hrs to get there well so be it. (so look for me on the side of the road :eyecrazy: )I know my SScampers Friends will be there to help me, Dan will be there Fri-Sun. and my sister will be joining me in Santa Cruz.
I have the epidural this Tues afternoon so if it works the pain should go away, unfortunetly the bulging discs will still be there. The Dr. told me whatever I do, don't bend over, lift and twist or I can just take myself straight to surgery.
so let's hope the shot works, if not I'll just become an alcoholic & drug addict instead (hey it's cheaper :screwy: )
My sister & I figured out the perfect job I can get since I can't sit or lift , but standing is great....
I'm going to become a wal-mart greeter :D
Dang, Dee!! We are so sorry you are in so much pain! We sure hope the shots and such work out for you! You know everyone will help you at the campsite whenever you need it....good luck!

Let's all help Dee out!!! Lisa and I are in to buy a bottle of UV Blue Vodka each. If you're drinking Blue Bombers you need to get a bottle. Also lets all chip in for fire wood. Let's all pull together for our dear friend Dee!!!!
Dee, sorry to hear about your back.
If we are there before you on Thursday, we will definetly help with your set up, getting the trailer leveled, unhitched, beds set up and the awning out.
Same on Monday morning, which is when we are leaving, se we will be there to help you and to fold up the beds and put the awning away.
We'll chip in with some firewood, I still have some of the fence that blew down in January I'm slowing getting rid of in our campfires, though what lasts us a weekend will be gone in an hour or so in one of Dee's campfires!!
The Blue Bombers sound nice, I'm sure Margaret will want to try a few, so we'll bring a bottle of UV Blue Vodka. What type of lemonade do you recommend? you said sugar free. I see we have some Mike's hard lemonade in the pantry, would that do ;)
Anyway, only two weeks to go, looking forward to the trip and getting to meet everyone again.
Dee, Let us know if there is anything else we can do to help

Shoot, Brian and Kristi just taught Randy how to make cactus coolers. Now he is going to have to learn how to make this new drink. Froo Froo drinks are what I like the best.:D
Unfortunately, when our fence blew down in January (like Quigs) the fence guys took all the wood:mad: We will just have to buy some when we get there.
Dee, I hope you feel better soon. I know what you are going thru.

Thanks everyone, I feel so loved. after reading what I wrote I was waiting for Blocks of cheese to be thrown at me. :yikes: Not sure if it's the pain or the drugs that are making me so whiny..
Margaret will LOVE blue bombers and what I buy is the 2 liter bottle of MinuteMaid sugar free lemonade from the soda isle...I have found it's
about 1 2 ltr bottle lemonade to one bottle Vodka..I have also found that Albertsons & stator Bros has it the cheapest
I drink sugar free soda, but I know those who don't, like the sugar free lemonade better as it wasn't so sweet...trust me they are YUMMMMMMMMMMYYYY
I will be bringing or buying some firewood when I get there I'm just not bringing my usual amount...

Welcome to our world....we know a little about bulging discs and epedurals. I hope it will work...but the good news is Heather is going to try and make it and she has every perscription drug in the world...So maybe she can hook you up!!!!! You need a new rig that doesn't need any popping out....Stop every hour and walk around...bring extra padding to sit on...Let the real men set you up....and don't worry about fire wood we will all chip in some...We are collecting it right now..

Dee,
Two questions:
Where are the showers located?
How often do the trains roll by the campground?
Quote from: Freedom_5Dee,

Bob,you will be glad to know that on the map, RR stands for Restroom not railroad.
So the restrooms and showers are located close to site #1, and there are no trains running through the site.
Go to Google maps, and do a search for Lake lopez, CA, they have nice satelite view of the campground, so you can see how close we are to the waterslides, the lake, the marina and the store, which is located at the Marina.

Thanks,
I am glad that I was mis-reading the label "RR"! Now for the next question's, are the showers hot and do they take quarters to operate?
Hahhaaaaaaaaaa Bob I'm so glad I wasn't the only one that thought RR was for the railroad..........When we had site one I told Jim it didn't matter how close we were to the RR we WERE GOING........Way to funny.......See ya soon......

Bob -
I "think" you should bring quarters for the showers - the boys remember that maybe it was. I used the trailer shower the week I was there, but the boys also say there was hot water. I know Dee and her kids only used the trailer that week.

Always be prepared or just wing it! :yikes:
I tried the google earth site for the campground. It's awesome to get the kind of detail and be able to get a better idea of where things are.

O.K.
so I go to the supermarket on friday, and they don't have Minute Maid sugarfree lemonade, all they have is Tropicana Sugarfree lemonade, so I get a 2 litre bottle, and head home.
When Margaret get's home I make us 2 Blue Bombers, with plenty of ice as it is in the 90's outside, but neither of us liked them, too sour, too grapefruity, not our drink. After dinner, she refuses a second drink, prefering a Captain Morgan and coke!!
So today, I tried using Crystal Lite lemonade, and made myself a Blue Bomber. Big difference, I'm on my second one now, and they hit the spot, much better. Margaret likes it too. I won't have to return that second bottle of UV after all!

It could be that you have 18 pm's in the in box but 32 in the out box! Because dear one when I try to send you pm's the last few days it says your box is full.
Try clear at least 10 of the non-essential ones so i can resend mine to you.

Arroyo Grande is 9 miles away, and they have supermarkets, drug stores, and you should be able to anything there.

Dan, say Hi to Dee from all of us, hope she is doing O.K. and we are all thinking about her.
Quote from: dkutz
Can we have three potlucks!?
Yes, I was wondering about that, seeing as we are there for 4 nights.
So if we were to have 3 potlucks, that would be
1. Dinner Friday night,
2. Breakfast Saturday and
3. Dinner Saturday
Potlucks can be fun, but also a bit of work. I've seen some people spend all afternoon cleaning, peeling, chopping, slicing, simmering just to have dish ready for us, and then someone else pick up their cell phone and order 4 pizzas to share.
So if we are having 2 dinner potlucks, how about half the people cook one day and the other half the cook the second day. You just need to double up on the food the day you cook, and the day off you are free to sit back, relax, have some wine and appetizers and be waited on.
If you enjoy cooking, then by all means cook both days, but with 28 families we would still have over 14 dishes to choose from both days?
Anyone think this is a good idea and worth trying.
If Dee back is still bad, she gets both days off!!
Hang in there Dee, we are sending you prayers right now. Do you feel them? Hopefully, you are in your "happy place" and getting some rest. Let us know how things are progressing.
Kevin--As far as potlucks go, I am game for anything. Just tell me when to cook and when to show up. Either way, I have to cook so I will go along with whatever everyone else wants.
Jacqui
Looks like we are going to have quite a few people playing poker. I will bring my own chips and cards and Jeanne, please remind Jim to bring his chips since we are going to have two groups playing if the head count for a particular night exceeds eight which I think it will. We don't have to play every night. Normally we play just one night and possbily two.

do you think they will get mad if I put spit wads on the ceiling?

Let me guess:
1. you have a 4-5 mm disc bulge at L4-5 or L5-S1 and other smaller bulges
in the lumbar spine;
2. you have radicular symptoms running from your lower back down your left
leg making it tingling and numb;
3. the MRI says that your disc is touching/pinching the spinal cord;
4. the epidural he gave you only gave you temporary relief;
5. they want to do surgery to fuse your discs; join discs with hardware;

Before you agree to have surgery you need to have second, third, and fourth opinions.
We will be including you in our prayers tonight, Dee. And sending warm fuzzies and hugs your way....
Lisa
Hey Dee,
We are keeping you in our prayers, also. Sure will miss you if you don't come camping, but take care of yourself first. There will be more camping trips.
Get well soon.
Bonnie & Rick
Dee,
You are in our prayers! Think positive! After reading the latest results I would agree with Dave about more opinions!
You know we would want you to come camping but if it meant more pain and agony and running the risk of more injury then sit this one out! Your health is more important.
If it came to the decision of weather to stick to your original plan of looking at schools for kevin and then camping, I vote for just camping. Yes that was my out loud voice being greedy, for wanting you to come. But above all, get well!
Maybe we should just descend on the hospital and sneak in your fire starter and have a campfire right there in the room! Playing poker till all hours and having wheelchair races down the hallways!
I'm sorry Dee about the bad news about your back. When you were here, you didn't look too swell and you were hopeful that your DR would be able to make your pain more managable. I'll keep you in my prayers.
Let me know if you want me to mail your shirts to you.
GET WELL!
Wow, Dee, I'm so sorry to hear that you're in so much pain. We will keep you in prayer for the doctors to figure out what's wrong quickly and get you back on you feet and pain free.
I hope you will be able to camp, but your health comes first, so don't risk it.
Love and prayers to you and the fam.
Dee!!! Get off the phone, I'm trying to call dammit
Quote from: griffsdadLet me guess:
1. you have a 4-5 mm disc bulge at L4-5 or L5-S1 and other smaller bulges
in the lumbar spine;
2. you have radicular symptoms running from your lower back down your left
leg making it tingling and numb;
3. the MRI says that your disc is touching/pinching the spinal cord;
4. the epidural he gave you only gave you temporary relief;
5. they want to do surgery to fuse your discs; join discs with hardware;
6. and they want to clean out the spinal canal and discs;
Before you agree to have surgery you need to have second, third, and fourth opinions.
Dee listen to Dave he works for an insurance company and probabley sees this all the time. After 5 operations Heather is not any better in fact she is worse. All her bulging disc are in that same area that Dave has described, except she has three right now.
Dee--I'm so sorry to hear about this nightmare you are going through. Lopez will not be the same without you. Please take care of yourself and do whatever is necessary to get well. Remember Jim still owes you an OSU vs. UofM t-shirt so that will give you something to look forward to!
As far as rally plans are concerned, you can definitely count on us bringing chips and a round table--they are camping staples for us. We'll be there for the potlucks on Friday night and Saturday a.m. Not sure about Saturday p.m.--we have some friends in Paso and we are either going to their house for dinner or they are joining us at the potluck.
Hey......Everyone I just got off the phone with Dee and she said to tell you NOT to count her out of this trip yet...........She said she has till Wed. night to get better and just don't count her out yet......So everyone get your prayers going and give her a hand........She sounded very good just couldn't cough or it hurt like...%@% Love ya Dee and sure hope you win the war.......carol
I talked to her this morning and she felt pretty good. I asume that the drugs were working because she dozed off a couple times, and when she did talk she kinda sounded like she had a 1/2 dozen Blue Bombers or so.
She is saying she will make the Lopez trip but I told her she was nuts. We talked abut maybe just getting a hotel room in Pismo instead of having to hitch, set up, unhitch, etc. That way she and the kids can still go on their Vacation and she can drop in on you guys too.
I'd sure like to see Dee go, but I'm afraid that it's the drive that's the worst part of the whole thing. If anyone has access to an ambulance so she can stretch out, and then knows someone who can drive her car & trailer up I think she'd be just fine.
Dee, much as we know you love all of us :) ... NOTHING is worth sacrificing your back over. You've got a whole lifetime ahead of you & it would be horrible to try & overdo things.
Please, listen to your doctor & don't be ... Dee. ;) We love you!
Laura
Dee sorry to hear about your back! I hope you are on the mend - don't push yourself too much, think of all the camping ahead of us. However, if you cannot attend the trip you will be missed by Marisol, me and Ronin!
Bottom line, take care of yourself!
She's faking it........you know what she's doing......she's stashing away all that Morphine to put in the Blue Bombers. :yikes:

hey that was a secret ..you weren't suppose to tell them. ;)
actually it's not morphine It's dilotin (sp?)
the Doc just left.. the disc bulge is a slight bit worse. I have decided to wait to see how I feel tomorrow. The doc will be back in am for a check in.
the surgery is nothing like what Dave is describing.. it's a micro disc something or other.. it's a 30 min. procedure to shave off the part of the disc that is crushing my nerve..
if I have the surgery no driving for 2 weeks and no activity for 4-6 weeks...like I have time for that
Dee-I'm praying for you to "heal like you've never helt before!"

UHHHHHH see #6 - they want to clean out your disc that is touching or effacing the thecal sac or spinal cord. i.e. shaving the disc; that's causing the problem. What's the size of the bulge? Most people your age have 3 mm bulges just because they're getting older :) - denegerative disc disease; without any trauma.
Bottom line we are all praying for you and hope you get better.
WHOO HOO!!!
I just finished my last motion!!! I'm on my way home, and we're off tomorrow morning for 10 glorious days of camping! See everyone at Lopez on Thursday!! :sombraro: :-() :D :# :! :S

Hey Dee,
We're praying for and thinking about you!!! I'm so sorry that you are still in such pain. Hang in there girlfriend!!!!

I am sorry to say but I have to cancel out on Lake Lopez. I started a new job and I have to work July 25 & 27. I was really looking forward to this trip. I have site 2, if anyone wants it. I plan on calling Monday to cancel it.

Just think....by doing the surgery....your back will heal and be fine...for many, many more years of camping!! Plus, you can look forward to us drunk calling you! That's always fun! :p
But, we will miss all of you...
Lisa
It's just not fair! Sorry!
You are the life of the party! You have always been camping and to miss this one, well I know you are really sick to your stomach! Like Lisa said, once this is done, then you can go camping again! You won't be in pain and be able to move freely! All positives! So take care! Give us the number so we can drunk call you!
You will be missed alot! We will say a special prayer for you at the potluck, for a quick procedure and speedy recovery! I will build a bonfire in your honor. We'll take lots of pictures and send them to you on a disk.

this surgery won't "fix" the disc persay it's to "shave" the part that is compressing the nerve that's giving the pain that makes me unable to walk. I have mucho therpy to do, and i'm having my jaw wired shut and going on a liquid diet to loose weight :! ..I say this as I'm about to order breakfast :p
I must say St. Josephs has some really good food with a good variety of foods to choose from..I told Dan when I get home I expect the same quailty of food delivered to me in bed.. :) ok i can dream can't I...
Dee we are so sorry to hear you won't be able to camp with us. It just won't be the same. Who is going to bring the "blow torch"? Brian won't be there either.:( Well, maybe with all the fires in that region, it will be ok;) .
We love you and will miss you!!
Jacqui And Randy
P.S. When you are able to reschedule your Nor Cal trip we will have to try and get together.

Well, I guess I will be the lone voice of dissension, but it's only because I love you sistuh!
I have to go with Dan on this one. Back surgery, even if it sounds "little" like they're only going to "shave" a small part of your disc is still
extremely drastic. And the recovery can be as difficult as a "full blown" back surgery. I don't know if you were able to get a second opinion, but you may want to
seriously consider it. Oftentimes, one surgery only leads to another...and another...what Dave and I call the "slippery slope" in our profession, and it is not uncommon for surgery that was supposed to make things better only ends up making things worse.
Remember how much I love you when I say this, but I would try the conservative approach of physical therapy and losing weight first. You may find that it lessens the stress on your back to either relieve the pain altogether or if surgery is still necessary, it may be of a lesser degree and your recovery will be easier and quicker. Plus, even if you end up evetually needing surgery in the long run, you'll at least know that you tried everything else first, unlike surgery, which once you have it, you can't go back.
I love ya, Dee, and we're all praying for you!!
Dee, Lori is no longer the lone dissenter regarding your back surgery. I have been handling personal injury claims from a medical/legal view for almost 25 years. I have never in my experience heard that just one back surgery cured all symptoms. It's multiple surgeries and you're never the same again. As I indicated in my prior post you should get 2nd and 3rd opinions.
We are praying for you and will miss you. Dave

That's sound advise IMO and it is the same reason that I have not had it done.
I've been flat for a week now myself. I get this way whenever I lift something that I know I shouldn't. It hurts like heck (like hot knives in my back and down both legs) but I just can't see taking the risk of surgery though (for me).
I suffer with it for weeks, get back into my exercise routine, get over it (for a few years), stop the exercises then the whole thing starts over again. This has been going on for 30 years now. I go down about once every year or two.
I am now realizing that I cannot stop doing my back exercises again (although I say that each time). Normally, I can build those supporting muscles back up in a week or 10 days. This time, I'm having a little harder time. I guess I crossed over that "Golden threshold" :p .
Anyway, I have been offered that surgery several times, when I end up hospitalized (about every 6 years). I was given the same advise that Lori gave you and if I would just behave myself, I know that I would be fine.
After I hurt myself a few weeks ago (at the Pt Mugu camp-out), I decided to get some weight off. I've lost about 20# and have about 20 more to go. That and remembering to do my back exercises and I'll be back in shape in no time. I hope that you will be too, whatever you decide to do.
We decided to sell our PU too. We are looking for something a little easier to set-up (Trailmanor). Besides, someone else (who's younger) needs it worse than we do..... ;)

I understand your point, I DID get a second opinion from a Dr that was highly recommend by 2 different people..
I spoke at length with cjpoppin and 2 of my nurse friends...
If I don't have the surgery I will have to me moved to a long term rehab facility..I CAN NOT walk . I am using a Potty chair next to my bed. the PT today got me standing and walked a few feet with a walker...Still on IV narcotics with pain levels reaching to a level 8 at 9 I start crying and 10 I wail and do birthing breathing
the 2nd opinion Dr did not look at my chart as to have an independnt decision. He looked at my current MRI I had Friday and I showed him my MRI from June 23rd and the herniation has gotten worse.
he feels I'm a good candidate for surgery. studies also have found that those who have surgery and those who don't EVENTUALLY will have the same outcome..without surgery it will take 1-3 years, he personally took 3 years and he still has weakness in his big toe.. he would also be perscribing me triple dose narcotics.
after surgery, my leg pain will go away, but I will now have back pain for awhile
after surgery. but at least after a few weeks I can go places and do things...my life of lifting 50 lb speakers is over or anything else heavy for that matter. bending over is not good either...so I was at harbor freight (killing time:yikes:)
I bought one of those gopher grabbing tools , caus I swear I have dropped more stuff on he floor the last couple of weeks than I have in an entire year

Yikes!! I can't tell you what you should do. All I can say is do what YOU think is best. And do things when your done to help yourself to get better, PT, exercise, weight loss what ever it takes.
Lopez will live without you, but its hard to make a trailer wheel chair accessible!
Take care!!

Congratulations!! Will you have it in time for Lopez?

this only aplies to a couple of Sccampers but the question was pmed to me on who/where do they pay for their site since I won't be there and I say pay me at Lopez, Chezway (Jeanne) has agreed to collect it for me and mail them too me..
Thanks for asking, this way only one stamp and envelope will have to be sent

Hello I am sorry but I have to cancel out on Lake Lopez. I just got a new job and I have to work that weekend. I plan on calling to cancel on Monday, I had site # 2. I was really looking forward to meeting everyone but jobs are not that easy to come by. Hope to see everyone at the next rally.
Ok I know everyone is going to have their own opinion, but...
What the best way to get through LA to Lopez? We usually go up the 405, but I often think it would be faster to go the long way around. We will leave here around noon.
Last year when we did flying flags the 101 was a nightmare!!!
Suggestions?

"Super" so sorry you won't be able to make. The way the economy is right now, a job is very important. This group has lots of campouts coming up in the future. Maybe you can get in on one of those.

Lopez has extremely high Volume calls can't get thru, before I cancel does anyone want to switch to my site?? especially you poker players, the game most likely campsites will be at the sites of chezway & 58 air

I would think your two choices would be to take the 405 north to the 126 and then cut across to the 101 or take 405 to the 10 and then follow the coast route to Oxnard and catch the 101 there. Listen to the traffic reports and see which way is moving faster. :morning:

LOL! Dee, hope you're up on your feet soon. We have hotel reservations down in Newport this coming weekend and thought about coming by to see you or meeting for dinner if you're up and around. Brian is also on the injured list and not for sure if he is going to be able to get around this weekend. Had a nasty crash on Saturday (Hope this doesn't set you back even further Dave;) )He flew over the handle bars and went end over end with his quad landing on him each roll. Took him to ER and nothing broke but has lots of soft tissue damage. Mostly his chest and rib area and sprained knee and ankle. His back is all road rash but he's not complaining about that. He's on pain meds but they aren't working real well. His quad is pretty bad- not sure if he's going to be able to fix it yet or not. Oh, and he wasn't being stupid when it happened. Went down a steep hill that he's done lots of times before and the ground gave way underneith him sliding him to the side into a deep rut and causing him to roll. Sorry so long and to hijack thread but I know Dee is keeping an eye on this thread. We'll be thinking of you all day and will try and call you tonite. Everyone have fun at Lopez and we'll see ya soon.

Holy cow! What is up with all you SCCampers. Maybe w should stay away!
EVERYONE!! Get well soon!
To all the SCCampers unable to make Lake Lopez, look after yourselves, you will be missed.
Kristi, sory to hear about brian, and I hope his Quad gets well soon ;)
Dee, hang in there, you are in our prayers, and will be missed at Lopez. it won't be the same without you.

I have to be carefull how much garbage I give Brian over this since he's still in pain. I keep telling him thoes quads will get you killed! He needs to go two wheeler!
Heck, after the terrible two wheeler accident we had Memorial Day weekend, who am I to talk? I am not sure if anything is safe to ride. At our age it takes a lot longer to heal. Hopefully he'll be better soon, we're putting together another Mojave ride on Veterans day! I think I am going to take E.M.T Training in the fall!

I keep telling him with age comes a cage. Let's get rid of the quads and buy a rhino.:U On a serious note- EMT training is not a bad idea!
Dee - I've been praying for you. Eventhough, we don't camp by you, I know that this trip won't be the same without you there. It will feel like we are missing a piece to the puzzle. I know you will be there in spirit.
I will put your shirts in the mail after I return from Lopez.
Kristy, sorry to hear about Brian and his quad. Hope he heals well soon. Maybe it is time for a Rhino. All the SCCampers should be on extra alert, since we are all going on the disabled list - Dee, Wayne, Brian and his quad. Here's to a safe camping trip. By the way, we are still interested in renting a boat for water skiing.
Here's to a great big fire in Dee's honor; let the blue bombers flow especially for Lisa and Kim - we will have video, drunk calling Dee and Brian, and the crowning of a new poker champion. Cowabunga dudes and dudettes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey ya'll -
Dan F. just called and Dee made it through surgery with flying colors. She's awake and very cold (from anesthesia) and all the signs are there that they look for after surgery to show that she is recovering well. I told Dan to keep us updated.
:-) Kwisti
To Kristi - OH MY!!! Tell Brian we hope he feels better soon - and YES AGE and CAGE go together very well! He's one lucky guy - glad it was not worse. Enjoy Newport!

Yea for Dee, Hip,hip, horray! Now we just need to wheel her out of the hospital into an ambulance and drive up to Lopez! There she can be taken care of by everyone and no more pain!
Excellent!! Glad to hear Dee is doing well!! Prayers do help. See you folks at Lopez.

Brian.........you' have a hard time staying right side up.....I told you months ago that you should get a dune-buggy.
Sure hope you aren't hurt too bad. I know that soft-tissue injuries can often be more painful than broken bones.
I say we use Dee's fire-starter on those quads........ :swear:

Hi all!
We've been completely out of touch lately, my bad.
Dee, we're glad to hear your surgery went well and we wish you a speedy and full recovery.
Brian, we hear you're on the mend too, hope all is well.
Sadly, we will not be at Lopez. The promotion process continues on my end. The examination phase has been completed and I was fortunate enough to make the top ten. Final interviews with the Sheriff are scheduled for this week while we should have been with you guys. Wish me luck and cross your fingers, I am up for lieutenant.
Hope you have fun and we're sorry to be missing.
Regards,
Kevin & Todd

You will have to change your signature from "sarge" to "lieutenant"! Our fingers are crossed!
Yes the rally is getting smaller and there will be "other" campers moving in between us. Are they going to be sorry! Maybe Dave can make some more money with People who don't know about his card playing abilities!
DEE--We are so happy to hear your surgery went well! We will miss you at Lopez, but you will be in our hearts. We will continue to pray for your speedy recovery. Hopefully we can come visit you within the next couple of weeks!
BRIAN--We are so sorry to hear of your accident. Thank goodness you are basically okay. We will pray for you to feel better, soon!
KEVIN and TODD--We were looking forward to seeing you at Lopez! Bummer. Next time!! Kevin, wow! Top Ten!! You rock! Good luck with the interviews!!
To the rest of you....we can't wait!! Brandon worked on the trailer all weekend, cleaning it up and fixing little things. We are excited, and will see you soon! Blue Bombers, here I come!!

I know that there's no central dump station anymore, but are there sewer hook-ups at each site? If not, do they have a honey wagon that one can "hire"?
Quote from: AzusateachI know that there's no central dump station anymore, but are there sewer hook-ups at each site? If not, do they have a honey wagon that one can "hire"?
The sites in the loop where we are in, Blue Jay are all full hook up sites, with water, electricity and sewer.
No need for Dump stations or Honey Wagons.
RV is packed with food and clothes, just need a few last minute items to pack.
Hope to leave thursday morning, arriving shortly after noon.
DH tweeked (sp) his knee today at work. Just got news that the Dr thinks he tore a ligament in his knee and he's now waiting for an MRI to make sure. We had to cancel Flying Flags for tomorrow so hopefully, we'll still make this rally. Wish us luck.
Does anyone live/work near Whittier? If someone does, maybe I can get them the shirts to distribute.
Blue Bombers, here I come!!
Lisa - Have you had Blue Bommers? They are so YUMMY! These drinks aren't the ones you nurse, they are the ones you guzzle. YAHOOO!
wow..I missed alot readng the board for a day...After surgery the nurse wouldn't let me have my laptop she said I had to rest :( I call her Sgt. Tess ;)
I feeel fabulous..and it's not the drugs, I'm off all IV drugs, matter of fact no IV at all...I get to go home tomorrow. I have walked up and down the hall way and gone up a porch step today..with a walker ..I'm ready to party!! Sgt tess put the leg rails up  I'm not to get up without someone here and I can't undo those..like I would od something like that  :Z
the surgery definately needed to be done, they said it was pressing on the nerve real good and it was red, inflammed and pissed off, (Like I didn't know that)
only complication is I have a leg drop but with a leg brace and therepy it will be as new..but I'm walking!! only minor pain at the surgical site. Pt mugu is 5 wks away..hoping he'll let me go. there are no BLT's for me..Bending, lifting or twisting..have to get special tools to hold underwear and socks
Kim don't mail the shirts, I will pick them up when I go up there next. Tell Richard I hope his knee feels better and do what they say..I've learned my lesson...

OK, I couldn't find UV blue vodka. Our BevMo had pink. So I will try the "pink flamingo" recipe on the bottle too. It calls for UV pink, cranberry juice and triple sec. Sounds good and if you have a UTI you can say you are treating your ailment:D :!

DH is suppose to see an Orthapedist (sp) today and he will let DH know where he stands. The Dr in the ER thought that he may have to have surgery but DH is hoping he says next week. If we go to Lopez, I may have to drive and boy, am I not looking forward to that. We'll have to see what the DR says and go from there.
Matt was upset yesterday when I cancelled FF. He told me that he was going with our friends, the Gomez's if we don't go. I told him that they probably won't go if we don't besides, they don't have room in their truck for you. He is so looking forward to this trip.
Wish us luck and stay off the FWY because Kim maybe driving.

Busted - maybe I had a little too much last night. Glad to hear your surgery went well and the disc is not compressing the spinal cord. We will miss you but are looking forward to seeing the "new Dee" at Pt. Mugu or at the Halloween rally. We miss and love you.
Kristi told me your surgery was a success. Glad to hear it. Too bad you will miss Lopez but I think it was worth it to get that taken care of. Kim, hope Richard's knee heals up quick as well. As for me, I'm going to another Doctor today to hopefully find out a little more about the extent of my injuries. Hopefully soon we will all be better.

The forum is aweful quiet concidering we have a rally this weekend.
I have most of the trailer packed, just finished laundry and have to pack our clothes. Randy is still in Portland. His flight gets in at 11pm (which means he will get home at midnite. I tried to get him to let me pull the new trailer (leaving tonite when he gets it hitched up) while he sleeps in the car and all I got was silence. Hmm. I guess that is a NO. Who knows what time we will get there tomorrow. :(

We're leaving Flying Flags tomorrow and should be there around 1. Laura is here next to us and will be leaving at the same time we are. Hope Kim and Richard can make it.
We're planning on coming and I'm hauling the LONG LONG trailer. I've only pulled the trailer 1x on our way to Yosemite and that was with no traffic and nothing really to worry about. We will be going with our friends so they will be looking out for me also.
Richard will be basically laying low this weekend so no Hearst Castle for us. Not sure about the waterpark yet.
We're planning on leaving around around 9:30AM so hopefully, we'll get there around 3 or so. We may also cut our trip short and leave on Sunday instead of Monday.
Wish us luck!

It's bad enough that I am stuck in Portland, she now has to pressure me about leaving in the middle of the night! I see no point in driving all night so we can get there in the morning and then wait all day to check in.

That's because we are all busy packing, trying to squeeze food for 8 people for 5 days in the fridge, making sure we have enough food, snacks, drinks for everyone. Making sure we have enough adult bevrages. Double checking the kids who packed their own clothes, that they have packed enough of the right clothes, no need for 4 pairs of jeans and no swim suits!!
Hope to leave around 9:00 tomorrow morning. DD has a dentist appointment at 8:15am, to check on the progress of having her wisdom teeth taken out last week, so once that is over, we can hit the road, and should get there around 1:00pm.
Got to fillup with gas first, luckly the price has dropped 5 cents a gallon since yesterday, and with a 75 gallon tank, that will help a bit.

well while this whole thing sucks, something good has come out of it. I think Dan has figured out that I really don't sit on the couch all day.. and that the plan is, there is no plan, no matter how well you schedule your day it's going to change. and it sucks the life outta ya..
I will however say I am VERY proud of Dan on how he's been handling everything, getting kids were they have to be, making sure they are fed and taking care of me, He is definately frazzled... no that I'm home and he doesn't have to go back and forth from the hospital will help. He deservess a big pat on the back....
I did a search of this thread for potluck. don't know if it is late for me or what but it did not give me what I was looking for. Is there going to be a dinner potluck Fri or Sat?
We are trying to plan our menu and want to know what to bring if potluck is on. Sorry most people will prob be on the road but needed to ask.
Thanks, John

potluck will be sat. morning and sat. nite.. besides a dish to share you need to bring your own plates/utensils
what kind of dishes do people bring to bkfst or dnnr?
Quote from: JohnandLeannwhat kind of dishes do people bring to bkfst or dnnr?
OMG!! pretty much anything..some will bring donuts to full blown breakfast cassoroles, some will scramble a doz eggs with sausage..pretty much anything goes. for breakfast I usually do breakfast burritos, but I have brought cereal & milk, to a big pile of bacon..Just know on the big potlucks like this when they set a time they mean it...snooze ya looze
for breakfast you can never go wrong with a big pile of bacon or sausage..just thinking of something eazy smeazy for your first potluck with the group.
dinner pretty much the same thing you can buy a Big tub of tater salad , you could make sloppy joes, spaghetti, I don't know what you cook.
several people like to do the Dutch oven cooking and make some really yummy stuff as it's a camping thing to do..me I do what's easy, no dishes and even what I can cook at home and heat later. to me I can cook and do dishes at home :p
This group a great group of people and you will see they will welcome you in..you will not be judged on "how elaborate" your potluck dish is...
we all like to relax, let the kids hang out with their friends and have a good time
you have no Idea how it's killing me not to be there..If it were closer...I can't drive a car but I can drive in a car..Just can't convince Hubby that a 3 1/2 drive is ok.
I was also told no Blue Bombers while on these meds :(
have fun tell everyone hi for me
Ok I will be the first to say we made it home. We had a great time, despite the yellow jackets, and Camerons wipeout. We made it home in 4.5 hours. Not a bad trip either way. I will post pics when I get a chance.
I missed DEE! I was looking for sloppy Joes at teh pot luck, and realized they weren't gonna be there...... It just wasn't quite the same without her...
Well, I was first out -- again. ;)
I was supposed to stay until tomorrow, but after last night's "serenade" by my new next-door neighbor at 3:30 & his pot smoking, I decided that there were too many folks in our neck of the woods leaving to stick it out by myself. That, and the increasing number of yellowjacket stings. So, true to form, I got up, packed, and high-tailed it out of there.
Lopez is a delightful place. I'd love to go back, maybe when it's bit cooler (hoping that the bee thing would be better). Great pot-lucks, great campfire, and a great Clive Cussler book!
See some of you over Labor Day!
HI all,
We had a great time meeting so many of the sccampers. You are all a great bunch of people with the love of camping and the great outdoors in common.
Thank you for making Leann and myself feel so welcome. We want to try another rally sometime soon.
Speaking of yellow jackets, one went up my shorts leg and bit me on the front of my thigh. OUCH!!!
I had forgotten about the jacket situation at Lopez. Early spring or late fall after a good frost would surely help that problem.
We made it out at noon like were supposed to, imagine that!! We never get out on time!!
Thank you all again for the warm welcome,
John and Leann
ps we need to change our screen name to something more snappy don't we?
The STUDENT DRIVER got everyone home safely. Lisa doesn't like DIRT and I don't like TRAFFIC. Coming home, I felt more comfortable towing the trailer and now I have to find a place for me to learn how to back up.
We had a nice time at Lopez and wouldn't mind going back. Sarah and Zach, our friends son, both got stung by bees. We were anti-social this trip and only made it up the hill a handful of times. We're hoping DH heals quick so he can get around better/easier.
I learned alot about the trailer this weekend and even had to dump YUCK!!!! We're going camping next weekend so we'll see how much I remember when I have to set up. Thank you to Jamesdad for helping me this AM and also Laura for lending us her water hose.
HELLO FELLOW CAMPERS,
Once again it was a great time. Good food, great company, good weather and liquid refreshmants flowing, what else could you ask for...oh yah..POKER..ha.
Even helping fellow campers/neighbors off the side of the highay was an adventure, it all just adds to the camping experience.
It was very nice to meet you John and Leann...and yes you need to be a little more creative on your screen name...look at mine..."Jamesdad"...my son is named James...Now that took a lot of thought and imagination and yes I may have copied "Griffsdad"..ha ha. We are looking forward to seeing you at the next campout, hope you make it.
See all of you at Pt Magu.
Jamesdad
Another great weekend with friends! What fun!! The waterpark was a blast...the yellow jackets, not so much. All the other wildlife we saw was cool...the deer being the best!
However, we did miss you, Dee!! We are glad to hear you are doing so well!
We left at noon, on the dot, and got home at 6:15 pm....we hit traffic in a few spots, and pulled off once to grab some fast food. I just got both girls down for the night....I am set to relax with my Tivo to catch up on Big Brother!
Lisa
heres some pics...enjoy

Thanks everyone for a great rally.! It's all been said - but we loved seeing old friends and meeting so many new ones. We left TOOOO late in the day @ 2PM and had very slow going from Santa Barbara to Camarillo - made us a tad cranky and added an hour and 15 to our trip! Got home and Zach had cleaned up the entire house....WHAT? Just when I thought we had to auction him to the highest bidder, we're going to keep him!
On behalf of Dan, I'd like to thank the men for the moral support, beers, and sympathy they gave him in light of our arrival Friday night. You are all good friends. Ladies - thank you for siding with ME the one who was RIGHT and not laughing too loudly like some people (Brandon...) when you realized that I was the one with the canoe lodged inside of my trailer instead of my food and clothing.
Bob - maybe you can post those pictures along with a poll! haha!
See ya'll very soon - it was a great weekend!:sombraro:

I PM'd you.:)

BEES BUT NO DEES/LOPEZ LAKE 08
We had a great time and we loved Lopez Lake. Dee we missed you, Dan, Kevin, and Kara. Hope you guys can make Pt. Mugu.
It was great seeing everyone again. Thanks to Kevin for the boat rides, and we love your new RV.
Jeanne Wey was the poker queen for the rally. The pot lucks were yummy.
Speedy recoveries to Dee, Richard, Jim, Wayne, and Brian. Jacqui and Randy, we miss you guys dearly and it was great camping with you again.

Great title, that really summarized the weekend.
So we did finally get to use our tube today and had a great time on the water.
Got home safely and are busy unpacking and doing laundry, (our next RV will have a washer/dryer so we can do laundry on the trip home ;) )
Great to meet with some old friends and make new ones.
i took over 350 photos, so will sift through them and post the good ones later
What a great trip! Thanks Kevin for the boat ride! Please sift through those water park pictures carefully (send mine to me by PM please!). Lori you are looking great! My son John enjoyed the poker games and is up for another one. If OC Campers or 6Quigs are camping up in the Davis area, let us know...he wants a second chance at trying to get some SCcamper money.
We left on Sunday and stayed at Flying Flags for one night. We took the boys to Solvang, ate danish and aebleskivers, and introduced Thomas to wine tasting at Fess Parker. I know the other two younger boys were bored with us, but what a fun thing for a mom to do with her son.
Well, as far as the bees go, Brad, Thomas and I all got stung, and then we got the "no-see-ums" in Solvang, so we must have sweet skin!
Dee we missed you, everyone, get better and on the road to recovery, can't wait to see you all at Pt. Mugu!
Mary (& Brad, Thomas, John, & Sean)
The OC Campers made it home about 5pm. We made 2 planned stops and 1 unplanned stop. If anyone has ever driven the 5 fwy north you will usually never see a CHP car. Well, Randy looked down to switch stations on the XM radio and swerved a little (ok, it waa a lot) and guess who was watching. Yup, a CHP was behind us. Pulled us over and asked if Randy was drinking? Did he fall asleep? Was there anyone in the camper? Where did the camper come from (we didn't have plates on it yet cause it was new) Lucky for us we just got a warning about safe driving and he let us go. WHEW!!
We had a great time at the rally. We missed you Dee but inspite of it had a lot of fun. We sure miss our SCCamper friends. It was also fun seeing all the new trailers that everyone had. I think hybrids actually outnumbered the popups this trip.
Hope to see everyone next year. We just have to figure out where.
Jacqui
We had a great time and it was nice to see everyone again
O.K.
I went through the photos and seem to have taken a bunch of just my kids at the water slides and out on the boat tubing, but did manage to capture a few other people as they tried their best to look gracefull on the water slides, so here they are:

Another great camp out was so much fun seeing everyone and meeting new people.......We stayed one night at Travel Village in Valencia to break up the trip home. The pool was perfect and I spent as much time as I could in it....... This was a very hard trip for Jim. He spent most of his time in bed or sitting in a chair. Looks like a new Knee for him......To bad he wasn't next to Richard then they could have sat around together.......Get well you guys......
Dee I tried to tend the fire but I do not have the '' Dee Touch " Plus, I go to bed at midnight..........Hahaaaa just didn't want to leave Jim alone for such a long time I remember what it's like to sit alone.........Hugs Honey
Sooooooooooooooooo Hurry back Dee we need you......!!!!!!!
I'll try to get my pic's up soon......Now I need to get off and start Laundry.......Boy are we home.......Yuck !
Carol, you did just fine with the fire. It was nice and big. Shook I didn't have to shave. My leg hairs burned off from the heat of it:o :D .
Yup, we were right next to 6 Quigs. We really enjoyed the new camper and are looking forward to another trip out in 2 weeks with Zambonie/Glen. He has the same trailer as us so we will be able to compare campers.:D
Jacqui
I just set up a YouTube account and have uploaded some of the videos I took at the Water Slides.
Do a search for 6Quigs on You Tube and you will find the files.
I have videos of Lori, Griffin, Shane, Mat, and Sean on the stampede as well as plenty of my own kids on the slides and tubing behind the boat on Monday.

Very cool video.....
We had a great time as usual. What else does one expect from a SCCamper rally. We are also having a great time at Smithwoods RV. Scoping out the place for a future rally. Great place, shade most of the time and plenty to do around the area.
Maybe I might even Wagonmaster this one. Have to chose a time.
Missed you Dee. Get well soon.
Glad to see everyone else. Wish we could join you in more rallies.
Bonnie

I don't know if I could get my girls to go back to that campground. They loved the waterslide....but were terrorized by the yellow jackets!! :eyecrazy:
I still want to go to Lake Casitas!! And, we loved Flying Flags....

It's not usually like that...Dk&3kids and I stayed there for 9 days and between Me, Kenzie & Kara I think I would've remembered that..I do remember them being at the waterpark

Hey Lisa - just so we feel better - I read a review of Casitas and they are having the same problem w/the yellow jackets this summer! Hopefully they'll all DIE by next year!

We've been going to Casitas for a couple years now and I don't remember having problem with yellow jackets. We are leaving for Casitas tomorrow and will let you know the bee situation.

Hey Kim, I hope you had a great time in Casitas. You took us by surprise seeing you on the 101 this afternoon. At first I thought someone was trying to tell us that we had another flat tire on our trailer so it was good to see Richard waving at us!
Yes, as of today our vacation is now officially over and laundry is in the works. After the rally we headed up to Big Sur on Monday and enjoyed 3 more days of camping at Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park. Our campsite was right next to the river and although there were signs going up Hwy 1 of the recent fires, the park was in good shape although some of the hiking trails were closed. On Wednesday we went down to Pismo Beach for 5 days of luxury and an extended family get together at the Kon Tiki Inn on the beach...life is good!
We really enjoyed the Lopez Lake Rally and it seemed liked the yellow jackets weren't so bad once we figured out that our food needed to remain covered. The deer, wild turkeys and skunks going through the campsites were fun and I particularly enjoyed the poker games at this rally ;) . Thanks Kevin for coordinating the boat rental...much appreciated.
Since we are off to Sequoia on Labor Day we'll see the troops again in Santa Paula!
Anybody find a black 3 D cell battery flashlight at the rally? Jim Way is in search of same....
Chezway - What are the chances of us seeing you on the freeway. We were returning from Casitas and did you notice the STUDENT DRIVER sign on the back of our trailer. I was hoping it would make my drive easier but it didn't.
We just got back from a camp trip and some of our friends were camping at Casitas the same weekend as Lopez. They said the yellow jackets were horrible there too.
John
