I would love to start boondocking, but have no idea where to go. Does anyone know how I could find where I can boondock in Missouri?
Any help would be appreciated.
I'm in Arizona so I can't help with specifics, but most National Forests allow "dispersed" camping.
In Missouri, there is the Mark Twain National Forest. You can begin your research here:
http://www.fs.fed.us/r9/forests/marktwain/
On this page:
http://www.fs.fed.us/r9/forests/marktwain/recreation/camping/
I found the following text:
"Dispersed Camping areas have few, if any, amenities or other facilities. Primitive Camping is allowed throughout the forest except in day use areas, administrative sites, within 100' of springs, stream, caves and other natural features or archeological sites, or where otherwise prohibited. Follow Leave No Trace principles and protect the forest resouces."
That last sentence is of course, important advice for boondockers.
You may want to visit one of their offices and ask for suggestions. Pick up a copy of the Visitor Map while you are there.
Good luck!!
Thanks for the info Tom. I will probaly start with a call to the rangers station, that is once it cool off a little bit. It's just a little too hot and humid outside for my taste. The temp is hovering around 100 and 60 percent humidity.
Thanks again
