I did it :D . I took out the a/c that we've never used since we've never camped at sites with electric hookups. In it's place I put a Fan-tastic vent that I can run off the battery. It's the 4000 model. It's a lot of weight off the roof and it seems to work great.
There was alot of dirt under the old a/c :eyecrazy: . Cleaning off the dirt and the old silicone and butyl tape was the longest part of the job. At the advise of 2 local RV dealers and a friend who's used it, I used a self leveling sealant from Dicor to seal the new vent after screwing it down with the closed-cell foam that came with the vent as a gasket between the roof and vent. For electric, I tapped off the closest light to the vent.
We've had 4 heavy rains since the install and so far/so good! :-() The big test will be in Vermont in 2 weeks. Pics are on webshots.
Glad you have weather where you could do something like that! AC is a must here!
Great job!

That's fantastic! Can you post a link with more info about that vent and price?

Austin, here is their website,
http://www.fantasticvent.com/ , I payed $150 for it on sale at a local RV dealer. It was 20% off their regular price.
I called Fantastic to ask a question about the amount of screws in the box and they were very helpful with any questions I had. Their phone # is on the website. Alan
