Title: propane roof a/c
Post by: lam1317 on Aug 17, 2007, 08:22 AM
if my camper can run the fridge & stove on propane why cant they make the a/c
to do the same then you would not need power at all. only two tanks up front.
do they have a/c's like this or am i dreaming.that would be a great idea
and i would be the first to buy one.any thoughts.

That is a good idea, but you would still need a fan to circulate the air.
I really dont know how effient it would be.It'ld have to be a heck of a lot bigger than a fridge,so it might would wiegh too much.

Did short seach but didnt find one.But they do have propane generators, might be quieter than gasoline ones.

They do make absorption AC unit's. But a unit that would produce the 13.5K BTU's of your standard electric powered unit weighs in the neighborhood of 1000 pounds and costs near $10,000; and would still need battery power to create air movement inside the volume to be cooled and for true thermostatic control.
Remember the average PU fridge creates only about 700 BTU's of thermal transfer.
