Title: Sumpter Oregon -- great park
Post by: Sodbuster on Sep 15, 2007, 10:56 PM
Has to be one of the nicest parks to be found in the area.  Sumpter Pines RV Park.  Just a mile (less) outside of Sumpter, Oregon.  Here's the URL....

Okay - park particulars.  LOTS of trees.  Been there 2 times this last summer (07) and had 2 different spots.  Bathrooms were very nice as were the showers.  Wi-fi hookup.  Cable hookups.  We had deer walk through the park several times while we were there.

Things to do in the area.  If you are there around Memorial Day or Labor Day, there is a HUGE flea market that pretty much takes over the town.  All other times, you have a gold dredge at the state park to see.  Actual steam train to ride.  Down the road there is a pay to use gold area if you feel the need to prospect and don't know where to go.

Still lots of gold in the hills -- bring your metal detectors and/or gold pans.  Just be sure you can pan/detect where you are going.  Small "ghost" towns in the area -- Granite and others.

Check out the area.  During the winter there are some excellent - so I am told - snow mobiling trails to get yourself really cold on.  :-)
